Please like and subscribe. It is really appreciated. Welcome to Wyrdwayz. Following on from my last runic series about the Elder Futhark and the runic wheel of the year, I bring you Wyrdwayz, where we delve into the wonderfully tantalizing world of the Anglo-Saxons and their runes.
In around 450 CE, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, migrants from the continent began crossing the North Sea and settling in Britain. These warrior farmers brought with them a runic alphabet. When on British soil this alphabet grew and evolved to become the Futhorc.
In part three of this episode, I bring you the rune, Gyfu. This is the rune of the gift. In part one of this episode, I spoke about how gifting was fundamental to the social structures in the Anglo-Saxon world and how it helped to establish and maintain peaceful relations. In part two I spoke about exile and in this part of the episode, I am talking about sacrifice. We look at the shape of the rune and I talk about the history of offerings into watery liminal spaces. This is an ancient Indo-European custom that stretches back into prehistory and it continued throughout Anglo Saxon times as we will see.
So now let us raise a drinking horn and take a step back in time to the days when the Old Gods were worshipped from the top of every hill and the people lived in harmony with the spirits of the land. Despite some people saying that the heathen religion did not survive the migration, I aim to show how the pagan faith lived on through the common people.

Please like and subscribe. It is very much appreciated. I am not a historian and everything I bring you is from my own solo studies and my own experiences. It is a passion of mine and I am happy to be sharing the wonderful world of the Pagan Anglo-Saxons with you. I am on a one-woman mission to show that the world of the Pagan Anglo-Saxons was every bit as rich, interesting, and spiritual as the world of the Norse Vikings which tends to get all of the focus these days. I would also like to say, that I am but a student of the Old English language and it is a lifetime's pursuit.

Where do I start? I think this was a very beautiful video. Your clothing, the foilage, the lighting, it was great! No airplanes, or dogs barking. The subject was interesting. Thank you. You had to have put a lot of thought in this presentation. Best one yet!

You picked a lovely spot for this Sharyn, magical & far from the madding crowd. Very interesting & professional production. The two camera angles work well, almost as if you have a personal film crew. I really enjoyed this 😊

Thank you, Frank. It was a very magical spot for sure and I didn't see another soul the entire time I was there. I'm glad you liked the two cameras. It was a bit of a gamble as I try to improve how I make videos but I am glad that it worked. : )

Excellent video, and thanks for elaborating on the runes. Videos on runes are otherwise often very shallow.

Ic þancie þē. Yes, the one woman road crew nearly failed me this time but determination kept me going : ) It is a lovely location for sure and worth the difficult trek.
