Thanks Saffy. Nice to just chat and be informative. I just ride at the weekend mainly, all day in the summer. Dont really like the luggage spoils the handling. But thanks for the tips. Hello!!! Thanks for the insight 🙂 Love watching your videos. Your older one for track day was 100% what my brain went through on my first track day 🤣 so much fun though. I'm also building up all my bits and pieces to do more adventure riding. Unpaved roads still scare the s**t out of me but definitely a practice thing. To life on 2 wheels ❤

Yeh, there is Birmingham games expo every year, and they host the UK carcassonne tournament. I've been playing 2 games a day of carcassonne for the last 9 months on my phone and I own about 80% of the expansions and spin offs now 🤣☠️ I've never played in a tournament before though so I'm a little nervous about entering on case they're all extremely intelligent and remember all the pieces
@@SaffySprocket when it comes to tournaments theres always power gamers. The wargames scene is unreal. Some places avoid prizes to cut back on the try hards
Great tips Saffy, and the only thing I'd add is "Free Cancellation" !! I use this a lot ... I mean I cancel more hotels than I stay in, but the great thing about it is planning a trip some weeks in advance ( relatively cheaper options ? ) and then being able to check the weather forecast 3 or 4 days before ( when it's usually pretty accurate ) and cancelling or going in a different direction at the last minute. I know it's more expensive, and I must confess that money isn't such an issue for me ( I'd rather guarantee a a good nights sleep and a huge buffet breakfast 😂), but you can potentially plan two or three destinations / routes not knowing until a couple of days before departure where you're going to end up .... all you've got to do is remember to cancel the ones you're not using 👍
PS2 .. another tip, which I know doesn't always apply to your particular situation, is to avoid school holiday times ..... accommodation is usually cheaper AND THE ROADS ARE QUIETER 🏍

Hi Saffy! Great video and info! I have always worked full time and more but have done what you talk about and we just have to make time for biking! You do a great job planning and i enjoy you love for bikes! Thanks for who you are! Ride safe Saffy!!!!😊
Planning is key :D I know there may be people out there who want to travel a lot more than they can even with the tricks I've recommended, but I usually find I can do a trip, have 2 weeks of rest, then prep for the next one and that's enough for me ahahaha
Wild camping is free obviously, Campsites are usually less than £10 a night. In terms of getting gear, you can pick up tents, cooking equipment, sleeping bags etc second-hand dirt cheap in Charity shops. There's a tone of tents £20 on Facebook MarketPlace. Best time to buy second hand is around Christmas or January when people are having a clear out and decide to get rid of camping stuff "because it's cold outside"
A few years ago I arranged a 60 percent contract where I am free every third week for traveling. In the summer I motorcycle travel. I want to try to put a motorcycle in Portugal so I can go there every third week in winter for travel...
Despite the name Youth Hostels are for all ages, at your age you would be one of the younger ones, and offer more comfort than camping but cheaper than hotels.
Hi saffy being self employed I can take time off when I want . But it's still hard to get away on my bike because of family commitments. I am determined to do a trip somewhere this year on my cb500 .
Self-employed is very very very difficult to juggle, I'm not sure what kind of job you're doing, but another option could be if you have a large number of admin things to do, maybe crash in a hotel for a week, and catch up on admin work in the evenings and give yourself a few hours riding time in the day! You won't get the full holiday but you will get a week of half days and some breathing space! Just food for thought
I’m the same Neil, although no family but have a dog. Of course, being self employed any time off work is time not earning money and I struggle to do that.
Why take two weeks in August? By doing that you’re clashing with most European schools holidays which means busy roads, crowded tourist sites and high season prices. Go in June or even September.
@@SaffySprocket As someone who was stuck with having to take holidays during school holiday periods I’m now aware of how much cheaper and less crowded other times are. Owing in August if you don’t need to can be a waste of money.
Have own business, sounds awfully fab, and is but I generally work on public holidays & most of the time generally on weekends. Clients can session appointments the last minute. The downside of being your own boss is holidays i don’t get paid for that, I have to pay myself. I finished uni last year so I don’t have to study. Support Worker & Counsellor Lots of admin. the other 100 pound gorilla Harley is not registered and not insured (money saving). Will change soon. I just updated my gear to all textiles. I live alone in a compact apartment one of the bedrooms has been completely fitted out as my office, but no garage, back yard or place to put tools. Harley is in my basement. Prob thinking doesn't sound fun, well its taken me over 5 years to get here and one of my big Goals is to run my own mens group Ride for Therapy, Asking mates R they ok & going for a Rides Coffee or lunch. So your advice, has me slapping myself again to get motivated to think outside the box and get some thin working. Should Read Ghost Rider by Neil Peart, Rush Drummer rode 55,000 miles BMW R1100GS
I can imagine but even if you can't follow all the tips, I hoping the section on finding cheap accommodation helped! Even if you wanted it for going away with the dog and family not on the bike 😁
Now try touring with a partner and two young children lol 2 weeks away for me, and having to cough up a £grand to my Mrs so she can spend on herself whilst away, keeps her happy and me out of her hair, for the children, will need to facetime every night so that they are not too worried. But it is a yearly thing for me to just get away and have some time for myself, luckily I have a very understanding Mrs, workwise I get 7 weeks paid, so time off isn't a problem. Don't forget the 2 bank holidays in June this year for the Queen
It's 100% more difficult with more responsibilities, this is the one thing that puts me off the idea if getting a pet at the moment 🥲 Hopefully you still found the accommodation side of the video useful :^)
@@SaffySprocket I am a Jerseyman lol deep pockets short arms, costs a small fortune to just get off this island so I am a skintflint when away touring and happy to just use a tent when I am away which comes in handy, love to camp when I travel, the outdoors is great for my mental health, as I work in nursing, my time away is a must at the moment, to just blow everything off. Pods are fab! I've stayed in pods twice before! I really enjoyed it both times :D one of them even had a heater and a plug for phones
Great tips Saffy. Have you checked out iOverlander for camping / places to stay.
Nice that you filmed video couch surfing .... lol
Hope you also had a great weekend, take care and always stay safe.
I havent, but I'm going yo check it out now 😁😁😁
Thanks Saffy. Nice to just chat and be informative. I just ride at the weekend mainly, all day in the summer. Dont really like the luggage spoils the handling. But thanks for the tips. Its strange with you been a relative new rider you are looking for places to go, but as you get older you end up looking for that one road thats perfect. Keep up the good work and go where life takes you.
You make a really interesting point actually. It will be really interesting to see how my travelling habits change as I get older. They've changed a lot already from my teen years to now, I use to REALLY slum it. Used to hitch hike and sofa surf for years, couldn't do that now ahahah I love a comfy bed, even if it is just a roll matt and a sleeping bag
@@SaffySprocket Its when you said about having a new bike, you said your bike was never the problem but do you truly understand your bike. How suspention work? whats rake angles and all that stuff. That's what the biking experience to me, what it feels like to ride after setting it all up. Might make a good vid, setting up suspention after putting panniers on lol some thing to think about.
@@philipwhalley339 It is actually something that's been crossing my mind lately, the bike handles so poorly, very rear end heavy when its all loaded
@@SaffySprocket So some things to look into. Rear preload settings and also how much weight can your subframe support. Let me know how you get on.
@@SaffySprocket Try turning up the preloaded on the rear shock Saffy, it will make a world of difference and its as good starting point. I'm pretty sure Philip would 👍
Nice video
Some great trip tips Saffy, I do a lot of camping in my Defender but haven’t bike camped for years but I might give it a go again now !
a very informative video. After a long gap since my last motorcycle trip, I will start doing trips this year. Let me try camping this time again as in my previous experiences, every time I have camped it was pouring down :)
Hello!!! Thanks for the insight 🙂
Love watching your videos. Your older one for track day was 100% what my brain went through on my first track day 🤣 so much fun though.
I'm also building up all my bits and pieces to do more adventure riding. Unpaved roads still scare the s**t out of me but definitely a practice thing.
To life on 2 wheels ❤
As at 5:00 I akways ask myself where you're looking at. Not in de camera, that's for sure. Nice work anyways, keep it up.
Thanks for the advice saffy I work constant Nightshift and hand on heart I sometimes just can't be bothered sometimes haha and trying to book time off but id love to get some tours done
Me too! Booked a whole 7 days off this week, sat on the sofa eating ice-cream 🤣🤣🤣 some days you do, some days your dont
@@SaffySprocket nothing wrong with that , I will get a tour sorted eventually I will give you a wave if I see you on my travels haha
I see Carcassonne. Great game, id recommend the resistance. You need a minimum of 5 players but its really fun, especially after a drink
Oh man, I'm am addicted to Carcassonne 🤣🤣🤣 there's a UK tournament this summer I keep eying up
@@SaffySprocket no shit? Didn’t realise it was a thing. There’s a Harbourside cafe up in Whitehaven we had a game night in but that was pre-rona.
I know it's more expensive, and I must confess that money isn't such an issue for me ( I'd rather guarantee a a good nights sleep and a huge buffet breakfast 😂), but you can potentially plan two or three destinations / routes not knowing until a couple of days before departure where you're going to end up .... all you've got to do is remember to cancel the ones you're not using 👍
PS as one coffee addict ( double espresso for me ) to another .... have a coffee for the road on me, if I can work out your patreon thing that is 😁☕
PS2 .. another tip, which I know doesn't always apply to your particular situation, is to avoid school holiday times ..... accommodation is usually cheaper AND THE ROADS ARE QUIETER 🏍
Oh man, I once went to Scarborough on a school holiday, the roads were diiiiireeee
❤ camping haven't been for years I'm free lance when I do though 😊 got my trusty hammock, thermal sleeping bag, tarpaulin's and little gas stove I'm a minimalist. 🤔 Saffy your not to old for partying 🤣 if so I am, 33 here 🥺 party of one I would like everyone to know 🤘🤣
Oh maaaaaan, my party days are way behind me ahahaha My whole 20s were spent skiving Law school and hitchhiking to random European cities ahahah - couldn't do that now. There's a certain fearlessness that comes with young age
@@SaffySprocket Travelling Europe and studied Law 👀 don't watch my speedo 🤣 nah jokes aside that's quite out standing sounds amazing ❤ it. I studied in vehicle engineering, haven't been outside the UK this will be my first time. I'm going with family for a wedding you should come with me I'll pay not a problem 😉 told ya in appropriate 😂 nah I'm just scared 😱🤣 any advice for my first time Travelling abroad? 😁
Great content/info as always Saffy, thank you 👍
Glad you enjoyed the video 📹 😀
So after 16 months of riding you have worked out how to book your holidays, After 35+ years of riding I retired at 55 and do it full time :)
Another fab video ❤️
How much does it cost to camp then?
Wild camping is free obviously, Campsites are usually less than £10 a night. In terms of getting gear, you can pick up tents, cooking equipment, sleeping bags etc second-hand dirt cheap in Charity shops. There's a tone of tents £20 on Facebook MarketPlace. Best time to buy second hand is around Christmas or January when people are having a clear out and decide to get rid of camping stuff "because it's cold outside"
@@SaffySprocket Thanks Saffron xx
A few years ago I arranged a 60 percent contract where I am free every third week for traveling. In the summer I motorcycle travel. I want to try to put a motorcycle in Portugal so I can go there every third week in winter for travel...
That honestly sounds utterly amazing! I'm so jealous
Despite the name Youth Hostels are for all ages, at your age you would be one of the younger ones, and offer more comfort than camping but cheaper than hotels.
Honestly, I can't deal with snoring ahahah Hostels drive me nuuuuuuuuuuts. I'd rather camp in the woods
So what would you bring on camping trip
I do have a separate video for this but I do need to film an updated version!
Have a coffee on me saffy.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
Why take two weeks in August? By doing that you’re clashing with most European schools holidays which means busy roads, crowded tourist sites and high season prices. Go in June or even September.
I've never had any issues with travelling in August 😀

I have a child and a dog. Makes things really difficult
I can imagine but even if you can't follow all the tips, I hoping the section on finding cheap accommodation helped! Even if you wanted it for going away with the dog and family not on the bike 😁
Late twenties? OMG....I want to know what face cream you use.......so I can buy some for Mrs Boulder.....
I turn 30 this year 😭
Now try touring with a partner and two young children lol 2 weeks away for me, and having to cough up a £grand to my Mrs so she can spend on herself whilst away, keeps her happy and me out of her hair, for the children, will need to facetime every night so that they are not too worried.
Video was very informative thanks Saffy
@@BeanieBiker_AutisticRider Glad you like the video :D Personally, I think camping is the best way anyway. I also think camping is really good for re-setting your body time-clock too! and yeeeeeh I bet its a fortune leaving Jersey D:
How amazingly organised and switched on you are when it comes to playing the system, clearly a clever girl and exactly what any person should do in planning their annual leave; the system will try to take advantage of you so use your intelligence for your best interests. Why then Saffy do you act the fool in your motorcycle blogs and play the dumb blond 'I don't know what I am doing'?
I was often told I am 100% book smart and 0% common sense 😭🥰
THANK YOU! Now I don't feel like such a knucklehead for trying to ride off with my disk lock attached. This is GRRREAT!
😘"SM❤❤CH!" 💐
hmmmm, nice 'old' advice. no matter where works, everyone wants to take the extra time off on bank hols, so never guaranteed even in a 9-5 office.
That's why you gotta get in on the dates in January :D
