Hello. Very good video. I am interested in the following questions: ways to heat the room. temperature Humidity. tray sizes. the cost of green feed. Thanks.
Heating you have to find at your lical level. If it is cost effective you can use type of light that gives heat to. Humidity should be as low. In commercial wheatgrass growing tray size is 30 cm to 100 cm.
Hope now you can understand. Do update Welcome to addy wheatgrass youtube channel While you admire the wheatgrass we grew at home, in month of April, we will give you a brief about the reasons that motivated us to make this video. And later, we will be showing the step by step procedure for successfully growing wheatgrass at home in hot summer conditions We have already uploaded a video on how to grow wheatgrass at home by soilless method in the first week of feb, 2017. It was liked and appreciated by you all and we are very thankful for that. In March, we received a comment where a you tuber from Chennai, India, informed us that he had followed the instructions given in our video and had covered the tray for the first 2 days to facilitate root formation. But after two days, his wheatgrass seeds had become rotten and he had to abort the entire process. His was a case of high humidity coupled with high temperature. This prompted us grow our own tray in these summer condition and document it for the benefits of the people who want to grow wheatgrass in their homes during summers aswell. For wheatgrass growers, summers time has always been a challenge. when the temperature is around 20 degree Celsius, they find it effortless to grow wheatgrass in their homes. Just throwing some seeds in a tray or on soil seems to do the trick, & they are assured of wheatgrass by day 8 or 9 But as soon as winters are over and the temperatures shoot to 40s, they suddenly start facing a ton of problem. Seeds fail to germinate, yield gets reduced by 70 to 80 percent and there is almost always mould formation. Let’s see the step by step procedure that we followed to successfully grow the tray of wheatgrass you just saw in hot summer conditions We will require every thing that we used for growing wheatgrass in winters plus two additional things which are pure neem oil and a jute sheet. We are using the Addy Wheatgrass growing kit which consists of an unbreakable tray, good quality wheatgrass seeds with high germination rates and organic growing medium. First step is to weigh out 400 gms of seeds for germination. Next, Transfer these seeds to a beaker and wash them thoroughly at least two times. Now, here’s an important step that you need to follow for growing wheatgrass in summers Wheat is a winter crop. It needs cold temperature for its seeds to germinate and grow into wheatgrass. Ideal temperature for wheatgrass germination is 15 degree Celsius to 22 degree. Most of the people wanting to grow wheatgrass in summers fail at this very step. Their seeds do not germinate due to being subjected to high temperature and they have to abort the process half way To overcome this huge problem, there is a very simple solution. Germinate the seeds in the normal compartment of your home refrigerator. Keep the soaked seeds in the refrigerator for 8 hours. Now, you will need to prepare a tray side by side while the seeds are soaking, so that the nutrients in the growing medium are already activated and ready when we finally transfer the germinated seeds after two days. Another huge problem that most wheatgrass growers face is the formation of mould in the base of the tray. And this problem only gets aggravated during the summers To avoid this, spray the tray with a solution made with 5 ml of pure neem oil and a litre of water. Next step is to make a quarter inch layer of the addy wheatgrass growing medium. Spray this layer with a good amount of neem oil water solution as well to get rid of any fungus it might have and to activate the nutrients in it. Keep watering the tray with normal water every 8 hours to keep it moist. After 8 hours we will resoak the seeds for 15 minutes, drain the water and keep it again in the refrigerator for 8 hours for germination. We found that our seeds had germinated in 48 hours and decided to transfer them to the tray Before transferring the seeds, we again sprayed the tray with neem oil and water solution to eliminate any fungus left in it Be careful as to not break the white tails of the seeds while transferring them to the tray Spread the seeds in such a way that they are touching each other but aren’t overlapping. After you finish laying up the seeds, cover the tray with a wet jute cloth and place it in a cool place where you have a cooler or an AC running Covering it with jute is an important step. Do not cover the tray with paper or a towel as they will trap humidity and heat and the seeds will rot in a few hours Jute has big weaving holes in it which facilitate air circulation. And keeping it moist all the time also keeps the tray cool and in turn prevents rot and promotes root formation. Don’t forget to remove the jute covering every few hours and check for moisture loss. We found that it required watering every 2 hours to stay moist. We also sprayed it with neem oil water solution once a day for next two days while keeping it covered with the jute cloth. After two days, remov the cover and place the tray under a led lamp of at least 8 watts Now, a word of caution about the neem oil you will use for this purpose. Do read the label carefully to make sure that its pure neem oil and that no other chemical pesticides have been added to it. those who are concerned can also buy organic neem oil that is fit for human consumption. But pure neem oil should be good enough, as long as the label says that you can safely spray it on vegetables and fruits meant for human consumption. Here’s a tip for germinating the seeds in the refrigerator While the germination process is going on, you need to observe the seed for white tails coming out its end. We found that white tails were slow to come out in comparison to when seeds are left outside for germination. So we decided to keep it out of refrigerator for approx 1 - 2 hours during the 8 hour cycle, which quickened the germinating process. You need to keep checking seeds for any funky smell which might suggest rot setting in If that happens, wash the seeds and keep them in fridge for longer periods and lesser periods outside it As you can see with each passing day wheatgrass growth is picking up and it had a sudden spurt in growth from May 1, which was day 6 of the total nine day process. We always had the led lamp on and cooler was running for 12 hours approximately every day The temperature it was kept in had a high of 31.1 degree celcius and low of 27 degree celcius We kept watering it every 2 to 3 hours We checked for mould and the smell of rotting but didn’t find any. Our trays had many holes, which ensured no water logging. Excess water quickly escaped the tray within minutes of watering. That helped a lot in preventing any root rot. On May 3, which was day 9, we had a full grown tray. We have been in the wheatgrass business for 7 years now And have been providing premium quality wheatgrass to its consumers in Delhi for many years. Honestly, on day 9, there was very little difference between the home grown tray in summer hot condition and the one grown in the hydroponic machine in a fully controlled environment. Germinating the seeds in the refrigerator and the use of wet jute cloth gave the seeds a solid start helping them withstand the high temperatures between 27 to 31 degree celcius and yeild lush green wheatgrass. Continuously using 8 watt day light type led lamp during the last 3 days also played a curical role as it acted as the sun for the tray minus its heat Now after successfully completing the process, we can confidently assure you of similar success but only if you follow every bit of information and procedure shown in this video. Thats all for this video Thanks for ...subscribing.... bye

I keep the jar in the refrigerator for 48 hours and re-soaked it every 8 hours for 15 mins .. I'm sprouting to make rice syrup, so now is it okay to use soil for growing ? Or can I use the water method ? And should I keep the berries in the refrigerator during the whole process because in my city there are still summers .. Please do reply as I'm doing my university project
Refrigerator will not allow fresh air. Keep it in a air-conditioned room. A 10 Watt bulb will can supply the needed light. You can also keep it in bright indirect sunlight.
Is there any advantage to growing wheatgrass in soil? Most people seem to do it in soil but it looks both easier and cheaper to do it hydroponically. Thanks for the video!
Wheatgrass seed has everything that is needed for a 8-9 days sprout. Having said that any boost to growing of wheatgrass in form of nutritional input either from Soil or through nutritional solution in hydroponic system will enhance its quality. In our latest video of Growing Wheatgrass in hotter climate we have used a layer of nutrition rich non Soil medium and resulting Wheatgrass had better quality than one grown without the growing medium in same condition. So if you have quality Soil which can provide nutrition during Wheatgrass 8 days growing cycle, we recommend using it.
Most people harvest it once as second crop is considered less nutritional. There is second harvest video in Wheatgrass video playlist.. You can harvest leaving 1 inch from the base.
Very nice video mam, But wherever I go for hydroponic method i generally face fungus problem, I have tried many times but every time I tried i got same problem. Kindly guide me in this
@@ShashiNGautam when will cover the tray for 2 days should we add the water at that time also ?? Or we will leave the tray for 2 days just like that without giving water ?? Please reply as it's urgent 🙏
Purpose of covering with cloth is to keep seeds in dark so they have better root system. So in hot days keeping them in dark area without covering is a better idea to arrest fungus growth. Give adequate water to keep seed moistened.
I tried to grow wheatgrass hydroponically but I found the height of the wheatgrass is not so long. Is the wheatgrass grown hydroponically shorter in comparison to the wheatgrass grown with soil?
Did you try to grow WheatGrass hydroponically and in soil side by side? Technically, hydroponically grown WheatGrass should grow healthy as nutrients are easily available in comparison to soil. Temperature also play role in height of WheatGrass. Height will be less in cold environment and more in warm environment.
It is an agricultural product and its out will vary with environmental factors. When the single blade of grass splits into 2, it is time to harvest. Again as it is an agricultural product, not all will be in slit stage at the same time, so harvest it when most of them are in the split stage.
It was very informative n patiently explained thank you so much mam I wanna grow microgreens but am just thinking about the fungal growth .... I understood that 25degree celcius with proper ventilation n drainage can be avoided for mold growth but can u tell me the watering process it will be useful for me mam....
There should be enough hole to drain excess water. Initially, water at a frequency to keep seed moist. Once you have roots formed, water at a lesser frequency to keep roots moist. Frequency will depend on weather.
Keep it moistened but not water logged. Improve drainage and keep tray in cold and airy place. Heat and excess moisture will make seeds rot. Add neem oil or hydrogen peroxide to irrigation water. We have separate video on growing wheatgrass in summers.
Any good quality non sterilized wheat seeds will do. Their germination may vary depending on weather and seeds condition. You can buy quality wheatgrass seeds from shashingautam.in/web-shop/wheatgrass-seeds-microgreens-online-lndia
Soil less farming gives nutrients through nutrients solution. And roots have better chance of absorbing nutrients from water than soil. So greens grown hydroponically have better nutrition and are disease free too. Like and subscribe
I'm just learning about this. I'm wondering about the roots. Does anyone juice those as well, or do you compost for other plants. Since this is no soil it seems like you could do either
There are people who juice roots of WheatGrass grown in hydroponic system. But unless it is grown in controled environment, there are chances of roots getting contaminated with bacteria and fungus. Be careful of it.
if seeds are smelling bad it means they are rotting. The solution is to have good drainage in the tray and see that once you water the seeds it's get all drained in few minutes.
I was doing this but i didn't have a big enough tray because i didn't know the seeds get larger as you soak them. I used several smaller trays but i ran out of trays. Do i have to toss the germinated seeds that i couldn't fit into the trays?
+Mutima H You can use additional tray to grow WheatGrass from remaining seeds. You weigh the seeds before soaking and adjust quantity in subsequent lot to get right amount of germinated seeds for the tray you are using.
Shashi n Gautam - Kitchen Gardeners what i meant was i don't have any more trays but i still have germinated Wheatgrass seeds left over. What can i do with the leftover germinated seeds if i don't have anymore trays?
As I said, soak as per your need. But if you have an excess of them I can suggest a way which might work though we have not tried it ourselves. You can try freezing them for sowing at a later stage. Use airtight container for storing.
Molds love moisture and heat. Improved drainage, flow of air and cooler temperatures will prevent mold. Check this video th-cam.com/video/AxKmd9txvQg/w-d-xo.html

Welcome to addy wheatgrass youtube channel
While you admire the wheatgrass we grew at home, in month of
April, we will give you a brief about the reasons that motivated us to make
this video. And later, we will be showing the step by step procedure for
successfully growing wheatgrass at home in hot summer conditions
We have already uploaded a video on how to grow wheatgrass
at home by soilless method in the first week of feb, 2017. It was liked and
appreciated by you all and we are very thankful for that.
In March, we received a comment where a you tuber from
Chennai, India, informed us that he had followed
the instructions given in our video and had covered the tray for the first 2
days to facilitate root formation. But
after two days, his wheatgrass seeds had become rotten and he had to abort the
entire process. His was a case of high humidity coupled with high temperature.
This prompted us grow our own tray in these summer condition
and document it for the benefits of the people who want to grow wheatgrass in
their homes during summers aswell.
For wheatgrass growers, summers time has always been a challenge.
when the temperature is around 20 degree Celsius, they find it effortless to

Let’s see the step by step procedure that we followed to successfully
grow the tray of wheatgrass you just saw in hot summer conditions
We will require every thing that we used for growing

of an unbreakable tray, good quality

Now, here’s an important step that you need to follow for
growing wheatgrass in summers
Wheat is a winter crop. It needs cold temperature for its

Most of the people wanting to grow wheatgrass in summers
fail at this very step. Their seeds do not germinate due to being subjected to high
temperature and they have to abort the process half way
To overcome this huge problem, there is a very simple

Keep the soaked seeds in the

We found that our seeds had germinated in 48 hours and
decided to transfer them to the tray

And keeping it moist all the time also keeps the tray cool
and in turn prevents rot and promotes root formation.
Don’t forget to remove the jute covering every few hours and
check for moisture loss.
We found that it required watering every 2 hours to stay
moist.
We also sprayed it with neem oil water solution once a day
for next two days while keeping it covered with the jute cloth.
After two days, remov the cover and place the tray under a
led lamp of at least 8 watts
Now, a word of caution about the neem oil you will use for
this purpose. Do read the label carefully to make sure that its pure neem oil
and that no other chemical pesticides have been added to it.
those who are concerned can also buy organic neem oil that
is fit for human consumption.

longer periods and lesser periods outside it
As you can see with each passing day wheatgrass growth is
picking up and it had a sudden spurt in growth from May 1, which was day 6 of
the total nine day process.
We always had the led lamp on and cooler was running for 12
hours approximately every day
The temperature it was kept in had a high of 31.1 degree
celcius and low of 27 degree celcius
We kept watering it every 2 to 3 hours

It was very informative n patiently explained thank you so much mam I wanna grow microgreens but am just thinking about the fungal growth .... I understood that 25degree celcius with proper ventilation n drainage can be avoided for mold growth but can u tell me the watering process it will be useful for me mam....
There should be enough hole to drain excess water.
Initially, water at a frequency to keep seed moist.
Once you have roots formed, water at a lesser frequency to keep roots moist. Frequency will depend on weather.
My wheat is smelling. It has started to shoot through. suggest some remidies. Does it usually smell. Smell like rot. But it hasn't rotten.
Keep it moistened but not water logged. Improve drainage and keep tray in cold and airy place.
Heat and excess moisture will make seeds rot.
Add neem oil or hydrogen peroxide to irrigation water.
We have separate video on growing wheatgrass in summers.

Thanks
Excellent presentation

+Abdul Maajid Gouri
At best you can take 2nd harvest.
We have a vedio comparison of 1st and 2nd harvest
Shashi n Gautam - Kitchen Gardeners : After planting how many times i can harvest for juice???
Thank u
+Abdul Maajid Gouri
Maximum 2 times
Shashi n Gautam - Kitchen Gardeners
I have to replant after that?
Does the nutrition value decreases?
Thank you
+Abdul Maajid Gouri
Usually people take just one harvest and discard the tray
What type of bottle are you using to waterthem.... I love tgat it will just mist them and not soak them.

Which type of wheat seed is best for grass
Disease free pure
@@ShashiNGautam
ok sir... Name of seed... Some suggests only red hard wheat only suits for grass..
Any good quality non sterilized wheat seeds will do. Their germination may vary depending on weather and seeds condition. You can buy quality wheatgrass seeds from
shashingautam.in/web-shop/wheatgrass-seeds-microgreens-online-lndia
Will the nutrients of both soil and soil-less grown veggies, fruits, legumes, etc., be the same?
Soil less farming gives nutrients through nutrients solution. And roots have better chance of absorbing nutrients from water than soil.
So greens grown hydroponically have better nutrition and are disease free too.

I didn't get anything you say, but nice idea!
@Blue Plumbob calm d
Wow it is cool i will try
Wonderful video
what are the quality different between soil less and with soil wheat grass???
Both quality can be good or bad depending on environment and nutrition
I live in America I love India because there was a many places to see and your activity was wonderful
Reena Rajoriya yes India has many places to see

Stop lying your name is Indian
It is my grandmother name she lives in India I come in India her real name is Alex and don't speak me lyre understand
Your English doesn't seems like you live in America 😂😂😂
plz tell me if i harvest it without roots will it grow again in same tray ....
Leave half to one inch of grass and it will grow 2 - 3 times again. But qualiy will go down with every harvest.
is it true that without soil it doesnt have as many benefits? they say its the soil that ''activates'' the nutrients..? thanks!
You can give water soluble nutrition. We have hydroponic Nutrients
shashingautam.in/web-shop/hydroponic-nutrients-solution-kit
After 2 or 3 days seeds smells bad any solution
if seeds are smelling bad it means they are rotting. The solution is to have good drainage in the tray and see that once you water the seeds it's get all drained in few minutes.
Very nice

Does it need sunlight?
Indirect sunlight is sufficient.
It can be placed in morning Sun for 1-2 hours if WheatGrass is yellow

I was doing this but i didn't have a big enough tray because i didn't know the seeds get larger as you soak them. I used several smaller trays but i ran out of trays. Do i have to toss the germinated seeds that i couldn't fit into the trays?
+Mutima H
You can use additional tray to grow WheatGrass from remaining seeds.
If we keep the tray in the sun for half an hour or so, will it help the prevention of mold
Molds love moisture and heat.
Improved drainage, flow of air and cooler temperatures will prevent mold.

If i cut single time
Grass will grow again or not..?
Or i want to do again this process..?
Yes it will grow 2nd and 3rd time too.
We have 1st and 2nd harvest video on our channel. Watch it
Is there a way to replant the wheatgrass in soil now? Will it form a grown wheat plant? anyone tried this method?
Wheatgrass grown this way has all roots entangled.
