Great performance by Malmö Symphony Orchestra! For those of you who wonder why this piece is not more performed, Grieg was not happy with the piece, and he wrote in the score: "Må aldrig oppføres". Which translates to: "Must never be performed"
And I can't understand why he was so disappointed by this piece, which great as most of his works (although, yes, Grieg gave his best in small or rhapsodic pieces, but yet there's his Quartet, his Sonata etc.).
@@SPscorevideos Eh, I kind of can. If you wrote the Symphonic Dances, I don't think you'd necessarily want this symphony representing your voice as an orchestral composer. This symphony is so indebted to Schumann and Mendelssohn, and he would go on to forge such a unique sound world in his later works. Not saying this is a bad piece - it's a good example of its type. But when you're in the business of inventing altogether new types, I think you'd rather not draw attention away from your more innovative work.

The adagio is like a Beethoven adagio. It is very beautiful but the interpretation is just not expressive because it is afraid of creating contrast between the key moments. from 19:00 to 19:30 it goes like blindfolded, and does not resembles like a true aria melody, where the violins stand out from time to time. It is played as a big block.
