Wow this animation helped me understand what was kinda at the heart of mtmt and mtmte. This journey was suppose to be as much for Rodimus and Drift as it was suppose to be about Cybertron. Roddy and Drift wanted this journey to be a place where they could sorta start over in a way, be true to themselves and try to navigate post-war life with each other. And then Prowl and Overlord got in the way.

Literally crying, this is just so sweet and i cannot. This is an incredible work of art, and you just made this animatic so heart wrenching- I had to double check and make sure one of them didn’t die in the comic and somehow escaped my knowledge. Gorgeous.

so basically drift bought rodimus this space ship so they could go on a quest together. drift sort of thinks that rod is the chosen one and has a very 'worshipful' attitude toward him, which rod takes advantage of, though they are genuinely best friends (maybe with benefits). Eventually rod messes up really badly and drift takes the fall for him, getting exiled from the ship. In this animation rod went to find him and bring him back, though in canon another guy, ratchet, goes to get drift. Ratchet and drift eventually get married, with rod accepting their relationship and wishing the best for them with a certain level of sadness over fumbling.
