There was zero water above the loge and almost no pressure on the field level. Ended up delaying the game about half an hour because the grounds crew couldn’t finish preparing the diamond. And to add insult to injury... It was a “Bad Ollie Day”
MLB posted a video about that delay, there were fire alarms going off under the scoreboard. Interestingly enough, the camera shot of outfield only picked up the strobes once, probably because of its position. Other camera angles showed the strobes going off, probably 5 or 6 of them
Back in 2001 there was an explosion in the light bank at now torn down San Diego Stadium causing the Padres game to be suspended. That qualifies as a strangest delay/suspension.

It's not just the players though. If the fields get too wet from the rain players running on it will end up ruining it. It takes too long for grass to regrow and. No one wants the outfield to just have mud patches everywhere. If it's too dark the umpires can't see the ball, if they can't see the ball they can't make the right call. Fans get upset as it is. Imagine how upset they would be if their team lost an important game because the umpire couldn't see the ball. Not to mention it's hard to get out of the way of a 98 mph fastball if it's dark. Sure we played outside when it was pitch black as kids, but we also couldn't throw 98 mph as a kid.
A 98mph pitch that cannot be seen clearly is a LIFE-THREATENING situation. Playing on mud is how careers get ruined. (The Red Sox lost a pitcher for the season-and it probably derailed his career-due to a wet mound.)
