    Just an idea for everyone thinking of putting their planked Dubia on a pole. Just take the plank out of the pot (with Dubia attached) and place it in front of the moss poll. This allows for minimal disturbance of the aerial roots, the plant is still completely supported and will just continue it's way up. For those who want to extend the plank, just cut a longer, matching width plank and bury it to the same depth as the original (assuming an up-pot) and garden velcro them together. The leaves will cover the transition and the plant will keep going with minimal trauma. :)

    • @monsteraetc

      Also, putting the pole in the middle helps balance the plant, so it won't fall over, as it matures and gets more and more top heavy.

    If you set the moss pole against the back side of the pot you'll have more room for the root ball in front of it and less unused space behind it. Just my opinion 😉

    Hi! I watched one of your videos about the glass plant watering devices for your moss pole and how expensive they are. I had a bunch of plastic closed end bulb water devices. They work really well, too. I use my hand pump sprayer to fill them. I can mix my fertilizer with my water and fill with my sprayer as I check my babies. I have smaller ones that I use on short moss poles. Love your videos!!! I have learned so much. Thank you!!!!

    I only have one plant on a grow thiccly pole - my philo melanochrysum. So far so good.
    But I wanted to ask, is there a reason why you centre your poles in the pot? I put my GT pole more towards the back, thinking it would give the roots more space at the front of the pot. I’m wondering if I should consider a more centered position for the next time I repot it (or for future moss poles)?

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always centered my poles it seems more sturdy. I have a couple older plastic poles that weren't centered and they're very unsteady. All my current poles are doing great this way. I don't worry about the soil roots because they create a lot of new roots into the moss and the soil roots still grow and fill in the pot :)

    • @hiro2557
      @hiro2557 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@plantsbymelissa yes, I will admit, my GT pole doesn’t seem the sturdiest with my method. Your rationale makes a lot of sense! I will do this with my next pole and when I repot this one! Thanks Melissa! 🖤🪴

    I watched all your moss pole videos and made a few last weekend. One of my monsteras is now dying 😭😭😭 and I’m finding that the water leaks out of several of them when I water (using water globes). I want to cry.

    • @monsteraetc
      @monsteraetc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It shouldn't be dying if the original rootball is still in the pot. Until the aerial roots migrate into the pole, the plant still gets all its nutrition/water through the root ball. If it's not too big, take it to the shower and drench the pole. Also, check to make sure the original root ball isn't rotted from the water going into the soil, instead of the pole. Misting the pole every few days will help keep it at least a little moist so the water will absorb instead of just run out, without keeping the soil in the pot too wet.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which monstera? I'm sorry :( if it's an adansonii they can be very finicky. Some plants will stress with repotting I try to use superthrive in my water to help with any shock. For the water leaking out, try to adjust it to the center and make sure you have enough moss in the pole when you make them. I hope your plant does okay 🥹

    • @melanieg.9092
      @melanieg.9092 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MsAngieDawn9597 "Mini Monstera" is usually a rhaphidaphora tetrasperma. It is not a monstera and does not upsize as well in my experience. Mine took a long time to attach to a moss pole. If you see it draining through the pole then the moss is probably packed too loose. The pole doesn't need as much water if the plant is not yet attached to it so misting it may be a better solution for now.
      Maybe only water the pole if you were to water the pot anyway and give it time to dry. Yellowing leaves are probably from overwatering
