the TSA agent at the "facetime call" is a dream TSA agent... in reality the agent would've been like "WHADDYA WANT... DIDN'T YOU READ THE PAMPHLET / POSTER PRIOR TO USING SELF CHECKOUT?!"
Instead of calling for help why don't they just have a recording of the typical rude TSA agent screaming instructions the entire time? That will keep people moving.
Even being face to face with people and making direct eye contact I ask them REPEATEDLY if they have any other electronics in their bag (4-5 times ) before I send their bag down through the X-ray and can you guess how many times they forget about their iPad/tablet/secondary screen/laptop/speakers/game console? In a sample of 100 people I have to pull the bag at least 10 times. That's the average. If the average people would read the signs in the que along the way, or just listen things would be smoother. I disagree it’s only for frequent flyers at the moment. I don’t think they’ll institute it in the regular line. I have pre check and it’s super simple already, this will just speed it up for those of us who fly frequently.
only for beginners I think. The automated passport checks in other countries caused slowdowns too, but as a generation grows up using them, it becomes faster than manual checks.
Not really, they could easily increase the numbers of security gates/machines and turned some of them off during off peak hours. No need to hire and train thousands more people.
@@rohan7759exactly what I was thinking. I fly several times in a month, every month and this would be great if I could get used to it. I don’t like standing in like at TSA 10-12 times a month. I usually leave when Pre-check is not available at my airport. This would be awesome.
Once people know how to use it, it should go faster, since they can have more lines open with less staffing. But also like a self checkout line at a grocery store, if the stupid camera overhead thinks that my cell phone is an item I didn't pay for, this will only slow things down. And also like a self checkout, this only keeps honest people in check. Someone with malicious intent can still bypass this.
I wonder 1st how will this impact passengers in wheelchairs? I've had to wait up to 20 minutes for the pat down. 2 will TSA ever come up with a more friendly way of screening passengers in wheelchairs?

Maybe they have already thought of things like that and put a check box on the screen that you have to tick to let them know that you have a medical device on you.
There three reasons why I believe that having self-service TSA screenings in airports isn't right. One, the user could become easily frustrated by the sensors and beeping from not doing what the machines want. Two, having TSA agents screen each user, and always there would ensure that those who are doing something illegal can be pulled aside and checked further just through looking at how a person acts, which is something that is hard for a machine to read. Three, someone without any luggage could place a disposable pen in a tray and use that to pass through the screening without being searched further, which could put air travel across the United States at risk. Through experience all of the TSA agents who have screened me did there job, where tough yet nice, made sure that everything ran quickly, and that I didn't have anything that wasn't allowed on a plane.
Might work as long as the system doesn't run out of trays. Happened last year in Vegas. Stood almost ten minutes waiting for trays to feed in their "automatic" belt. Was then told by one agent to take from the belt behind us -that was not in use. Only to be told by another agent that we can't do that. Yeah. Not confident that this is going to work at all.
love how this is already a thing in both syd and akl airport also they dont make you go trough a xray just a metal detector and if you are flagged then you get a xray. also no need for stamps in your passport as that is automatic as well using face rec
How do you proceed when the body scan senses something but there’s nothing actually on your body, hence the pat down by the officer. This happens almost every other person in line. I can see a huge slow down at that point because there is no officer standing at the body scanner.
I'm no fan of most TSA agents, who seem power-happy, but at least they keep the line moving. Have you ever seen how slow self-checkout happens at supermarkets? We've all noticed how slow aircraft boarding has become because more people elect to carry on their own baggage and stow it in the bins, which seems to take an eternity.
If the machines can scan everything in your bag without removing anything and you don't have to remove your shoes and jacket then maybe this will work.
There will be job cuts. These grocery stores that have self checkout, many of those workers didn't get reallocated. These stores still look the same as far as stocking and I see less staff. Hard to find help at times when the machines start messing up
why so much security internally when you're already letting anyone just walk into the country through our borders and getting free money and free housing?
In the past I have gone through several 'experimental' tryouts at TSA. Remember the puffer machine that you step into and it blew air at you, or the big pat down in front of everyone on some sort of sensor, and the controversy over seeing you nude or not. There were others, but this looks like this actually might work. Did he take his shoes off?
What could go wrong with this? I’m sure it won’t be any worse than self-checkout at the grocery store when people don’t have a clue what they’re doing.
This initiative by the TSA to test self-checkout at the Las Vegas airport seems like a promising step towards enhancing the efficiency and convenience of airport security processes. Implementing self-checkout could streamline passenger flow, reduce wait times, and perhaps even improve the overall travel experience by empowering travelers with more control over their security screening. It's always exciting to see technology being used to make our lives easier, especially in areas where stress and delays are common. Hopefully, this trial will lead to positive outcomes and set a precedent for other airports to follow suit. Traveling can be a hassle, but innovations like these are a reminder of how continuous improvement can lead to better experiences for everyone involved.
