Absolutely loved your video and your honesty in stating what you think of these new I’m been looking for a great set of plastic pipe cutting thanks for sharing and being honest I would really love to be a winner regards from Scotland 🏴
I bought one of these cutters and it's going back. Apart from a couple of of successful cuts on 32mm pipe most spiralled the cut, both on 32 and 40m PVC pipe.
Great review, it’s good to hear an independent reviewer that’s not being sponsored. Should definitely do more tool reviews. Your videos are fab and much appreciated 👍👍👍👍
Got the 4 piece Rothy set a year or 2 ago with 15, 22, 1.25 inch and 1.5 inch. They're great so no need to replace. Some guys use ratchets on lead for a decent cut but not tried it myself.
I’ve got the multi rothenberger (32/40) it’s ok for 40mm but 32 is tricky, had a number of “corkscrews”. Prefer individual cutters, ox are good. Ox Ratchet copper slice are good too
I've got an old pair of monument pipe cutters that cut as well as they did the day I bought them, I tried a set of rothenberger ratchet cutters but the were forever jamming up I'd heard a few people had similar problems. Great vid Alan much love from Skegness 😉
Ay lad love Rothenberger tools especially the water pressure tester which is good for testing an installed system and also for getting the young apprentices learning about doing good solvent or copper flux connections with scraps of material so when pressure tested they hold. That tool really does refine your technique. With the ratchet cutters sharp blades and if you can localize them in a fixed position with little movement you can get a clean cut but that maybe too much faff for some, not sure turning the pipe helps to get a clean cut - it no doubt makes it easier to cut - but I could be wrong.
Ive got the ratchet cutters, I use them all the time waste pipe and MLCP. Ground source pipe etc they get battered Allen. On waste pipe its a bit of technic, but they always leave a little burr on the outside that needs to scraped off. If you don’t it can push the solvent to the back of the fitting. stay safe and say hello to the clan.
I was taught to glue the pipe not the fitting where you can. If you glue inside the fitting the file will be pushed inside the fitting causing hair and gunk to cling to and cause blockage. Everyone has their own way but this is how I was taught.
Abs? My hacksaw cuts any ABS. Thicker walled pipe I got my sawzall with a pipe blade attached. We really are in an age where plumbers can no longer us a hacksaw... damn... Kind of happy my journeyman when I was younger didn’t allow us to single size cutters lol.
We have recently bought these and they spiral on the pipe a fair bit and also very stiff to turn if you squeeze the ratchet to tight on the pipe think the older ones are better
Black cutters all day long, easy to use when up ladders etc. Spare blades inside cutter and simple to change. Only ever have an issue if cutting pipe which has been painted, this can cause chip in blades
I did the same upgrade last December on waste cutters, my honest opinion I still prefer my older black version 32, 40 and 50mm I have. I dunno why but prefer the open slice then click together.. But never used ratchet cutter, I have that basic Rothenberger Rocut with spring up to 28mm... Cool video 👍👍👍

I've always used ratchet style cutters, I have had one rothenberger pair around 10 years and they have been good. Even cut lead with them for a real nice finish but the blade isn't that sharp any more (probably from cutting lead). I would give the other plasticut style ones a go though.

Hacksaw gang brother. Always will be. You won’t find me or any of my apprentices using these cutters. The reason reason why is you’re failing to build their skills for pipe, so when they come across pipe 3”, 4”, 6” which is typical in drainage they get intimated, and since they never built their hacksaw skills they give slanted cuts.
I bought a pair of Rothenberger gland pliers (water pump pliers) think they would be quality. They were just the cheap and nasty versions the sheds sell. What a let down.
