I absolutely love this song. It’s a sad beautiful ballad and it is my all time favourite. The story that Son House tells is so heartfelt. The part where he said Hush, I thought I heard her calling my name. And when Son said it’s an awful thing when you love someone but they don’t love you. I can relate to that many times. I know just how Son feels. I would like this song played at my funeral. If that would be ok with Son House. 🌟😇🇦🇺
Thanks, thanks and thanks again, Tom! For your devotion and talent. And of course for your willingness to pass those things on to others. And you don't really get more bluesy than Son House's Death Letter...
You must have listen to that song and played that one song only for a few years. And watched that Blues special from 2005 over and over. That was unbelievable. They showed John Jacob Niles for a few moments in that special. Playing Rise Up. I like his voice.:) Nick
Great ole tune! Not surprised by your pin point accuracy on all those different riffs in this song. Fantastic playing 🤩 this video could have changed the way did this. The guitar I was using wasn't my favorite for using a slide. Especially for the hi D sliding. Love the huge sound of that resonator 👍👍
Great video!! Just wondering what the white piece around the pickup are? . Is it to stop ratting? . I have a mule and am getting a clicking sound . Still can't figure out where it's coming from.
Yup. I get a rattle now and again from the pickup. It comes and goes. I’ve never had a reso that didn’t have some sort of rattle…it’s metal and screws after all.
Great lesson Tom. Packed with info Cleary presented in approachable manner. Feel fortunate to have stumbled across. Thank you

Great version of one of the funkiest blues of the old Delta.
Very generous of you, thank you!
Great version and lesson Tom - have added a few bits from this into how I play this one! One of my all time favourite blues songs.
Thank you for sharing.
