Thanks for the memories! I arrived in 9/70 with my buddy Steve Fields and we were given a choice between S-1 and ADM. I chose S-1 and Steve got ADM. I really had it easy in S-1, but it didn't do much for me career-wise. However, Fields converted his ADM experience into a career in the defense industry. Go figure!

Was there 74-77/78.. In the water purification group. Best gig in the army, always by the water, and the mess halls. :) Got to live off post just down from the Pioneer Kaserne. and they paid me more $$ for not living in the barracks! Had a VW, knew the backroads to get to Frankfurt in like 30 min. Loved it there, thanks for the memories!

I was stationed at the 545th Ord. Co. Munster, Germany from Feb. 1962 til Sept. 1964 and support the 23rd with your SW. I worked in Operations & worked with a Sgt. in your Co. to set-up convoys from your SW Co. to pick up your SW,s. I think it was summer 63 when we worked out a convoy of your APC,s driving all the way down to Munster to pick up the SW,s. The convoy caused so much damage that our Co. called me in chewed me out for helping set up the convoy. I believe we supported all the SW companies in 5th Corp. and the unit that impressed me the most was the 23rd Eng. Bn. Congratulation to all of you for serving in one of the finest unit in the US Army.

I still am in contact with 1Sgt ( later CSM) Lucion Cowart in A company. Great guy. Enjoyed my days in the 23rd Eng Bn.

I attended 23 Eng Organization day as a dependent back in '59 0r '60. My father was XO of 6th QM Group. I have a German Krug (mug) with 23 EN (AD) Organizational Day printed on it and the Unit Crest so decided to research it and found this site. I am a retired Army officer myself and spent 7 years in Germany on active duty. One of my former BN Cdr's was commanding 6th Area Support Group, which had formerly been the 6th QM. In my travels, I visited my old family neighborhood near Hanau, in New Argonne Housing area. A former Discom XO I knew was living across the street from our old duplex and let me tour his home. Hadn't changed in 26 years. Wow, what memories of my childhood.

Gary Joseph Stewart: I too was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division, 23rd Engineers, Echo Company (MOFABs = Mobile Floating Assault Bridges), from August 1970 - May 1972. I can't remember the name of the actual barracks in Hanau (maybe Pioneer Kaserne?), but it had black wrought iron gates facing the cobblestone Straße, and it housed all five (Alpha through Echo) companies of the 23rd Engineers. Spent countless hours navigating up and down the Rhine river over those years, day and night, and saw some of the very best live music concerts ever performed in Frankfurt . . . Led Zeppelin, CCR, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, Ten Years After. Great-great memories!

@@joepower6183 Joe! Absolutely GREAT to hear from you and the others who have responded here! Thanks so much to all for taking the time to respond, and you're right, I recognize that name now - it was indeed "James Galloway", a 'Captain' Galloway as I recall. Can't believe I found someone from that far back. Seems like centuries ago now. As country music singer/songwriter John Anderson recently wrote:
      "Years . . .
      Everybody knows,
      Ya gotta let 'em go,
      They kinda roll-by like tears.
      Just a measure of time,
      Playin' with yer mind,
      Passin' you by,
      Those years.
      Look around,
      Up and down,
      They're nowhere,
      To be found.
      Like the wind,
      My old friends.
      They come and go,
      Again."
Hope life has been good to you. All the best to you, amigo! ;-)

even better , i had a buddy who annie placed a big tongue kiss on at tony's pizza one night . he thought he was the stud who studded stud . some people in the bar informed him and us that shed just got thru spermguzzling in tonys bathroom . the most embarrassed i believe ive ever seen a person get . i still can picture him trying to wash out his mouth with his entire forearm .

If I had to bet, I would assume your first name is Jeff. I am Bob’s son, Ryan-and I have heard a lot of tales involving you and several other young men stationed in Hanau. If you’re in touch with any of them still, dad isn’t doing well at all. Our family has been told he doesn’t have too much longer to live. He has been at Thompson Hood VA facility since about last Nov. with Alzheimer’s. I have seen all of the pictures and really enjoyed seeing this video. Take care Jeff.
