Wolff Responds: The ICC application for warrants on Israeli & Hamas Leadership (May 22, 2024)

  • Today's "Wolff Responds", Professor Richard Wolff offers his thoughts on the International Criminal Court's (ICC) Application on to issue warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, and the leaders of Hamas, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri and Ismail Haniyeh. With most of the world in favor of these warrants and the United States opposed, what does this say about the shift in the global hegemony?

By who? Israel serves the geopolitical interests of the United States and there's literally no real opposition to them in the U.S political system. Israel's military industrial and security complex has close links to America's military industrial complex. Good luck trying to untangle such an alliance and the special interests. The existence of Israel creates a security problem in the middle east and thus Saudi Arabia keeps buying military equipment and maintaining the petrodollar system. It's a self perpetuating cycle, Create more security threats and then encourage the actors of the region to buy more from the country that has created these security threats. The inevitability is that these conflicts get larger and larger and more bloody and brutal but the profits also get larger.

By the salvation of western interests, do you mean that Europeans (and the descendants in the New World) can now keep Jews out of their own countries and in the Middle East? Don't Europeans realize that they then lose out on the best scientists, thinkers, etc,, because in fact their hero was Jewish himself and Europeans have celebrated his birthday every December 25th for 2,000 years.

This is how you need to vote in November:
We must fully resist and _always vote_ against (& less authoritarian than) both the Democratic *and* Republican Parties- including Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, Rand Paul (He’s _no_ Ron Paul), Warren Davidson, Ron Johnson, and all other Republicans.
For _all_ public positions. And this same strategy applies against the same one or more party-monopolies in _all_ countries worldwide.
Real libertarians will never be Republicans or Republican loyalists. You can always _write-in_ an anti-authoritarian person if no candidates for a position fit that bill.
This will continuously reduce the power of _all_ authoritarian parties in the party monopolies. Until our task is complete.
Repeat strategy for all new authoritarian parties that emerge.

We must fully resist and _always vote_ against (& less authoritarian than) both the Republican *and* Democratic Parties- including all of the squad, Bernie Sanders, Edward Markey, the justice democrats, & all other democrats.
For _all_ public positions. And this same strategy applies against the same one or more party-monopolies in _all_ countries worldwide.
Real progressives will never be Democratic Members or Democratic loyalists. You can always _write-in_ an anti-authoritarian person if no candidates for a position fit that bill.
This will continuously reduce the power of _all_ authoritarian parties in the party monopolies. Until our task is complete.
Repeat strategy for all new authoritarian parties that emerge.

Mr.Wolff your entire thesis is based on the assumption of China being a stable and sound economic entity. Instead of another "Paper Tiger" This is also true for my hero's Book "America, the Farewell Tour" by Chris Hedges.
Now I'm not talking about karmic justice here but the very real possibility that at the end of the Day the G7 and the US Military Industrial Intelligence Complex along with the Petrol Dollar being a much more durable construction (at least for the foreseeable future) than assumed by both you and Chris Hedges.
The idea that China "the lynch pin of your new Paradigm" being just as much a house of cards as the Morally bankrupt post imperial G7 US Military Industrial Intelligence Complex is not a stretch. Many China experts seem to think so. Apearantly the entire Sino Military Economic edifice is rife with corruption and non functional situations so much so that many view it as a bubble waiting for collapse. PS there exists also another huge mitigating vector of entropy looming over the whole spectical that being "Catastrophic Abrupt Climate Change" Humanity is in this Century a Train hurtling down the track full speed ahead but the Tressel is OUT.

Hmm…that sort of historical determinism is rather overstated. And often crude, not to mention impatient with annoying frivolities otherwise termed ‘facts’. The ‘brics’ !? An entity barely spoken of nowadays, with good reason. Brazil & South Africa are both foundering & approaching literal collapse in every sense. Modi’s India has failed to obtain any of its declared objectives ( even instituting access to toilets for the majority of its still severely impoverished populace proves to be a gargantuan barrier ), with the exception of amplifying Hindutva. Russia & the PRC ? One could welcome their ‘ascent’ with the sort of delight one might reserve for the prospect of the planet coming to resemble Giedi Prime.

Not sure where Mr. Wolff is getting his numbers, but according to UN estimates the GDP of the G7 countries is basically double that of BRICS in 2024.
BRICS is approximately $26.2 Trillion USD
G7 (-EU) is approximately $42.8 Trillion USD
    G7 (+EU) is approximately $58.8 Trillion USD
The reason I included numbers both with and without the EU is because I couldn't easily find GDP numbers after 2022, and I don't feel like taking the time out to hunt down the numbers from every single individual EU member nation. Regardless; without the EU included we're looking at a difference of around $16.6 Trillion USD. The total GDP of BRICS is barely $3 Trillion USD more than the United States alone.
This dishonesty and deceit coming from Prof. Wolff makes me genuinely sad, as I used to be a big fan of his. It's heartbreaking. He's half the reason I'm a Socialist today, but in the past few years, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he and his associates seem to have lost the plot. I genuinely do not understand what happened. I don't know what went wrong. It appears that they would prefer to live under the bootheel of an authoritarian government that wants to completely strip away human rights from minority groups and destroy any kind of individual freedom, than to live under the rule of the United States. Because... the USA is capitalist I guess? And does bad things sometimes? But, there isn't a single country in BRICS that is Socialist or Communist either, or hasn't done(or currently doing) terrible things. They ALL operate on some form of capitalism, just with a 10,000% more authoritarian government. Russia assassinates Putin's political rivals, constantly attacks and annexes its neighbors every few years, and recently made being gay illegal. China and the CCP have devolved into nothing more than a corrupt dictatorship under Xi, and put people in literal reeducation camps. They even banned Winnie the Pooh.
Seriously, I don't get it. I do not f*cking understand. At all.
And please, don't get me wrong. I am a Socialist. Hell, I'd honestly even prefer to see humanity move towards a unified global government in the long run. But not if that means I have to be scared for my life that I might be executed, imprisoned, or sent to a reeducation camp just because I kissed another guy, believed in the wrong god, or spoke out against a government official.
As a species, we have to do something different, and something better, or we are going to face extinction in the next couple hundred years. From what I see, though, no government on this planet is genuinely moving towards doing something better. Our only options are "least terrible" at this time.
