I know you guys focus on a companys history but bringing up sum html architecture from ipo days when he’s talking about owning the next generation platforms (ai, ar) is actually insane lmao
At ~11mins when zuck talked about building their own experiences. Steve Jobs said the same thing 20 years ago: “people who are serious about building software build their own hardware.”
I don't know why, but I felt some weird energy between Ben and David, and Mark. Like something was off during conversation. It looked like Mark didn't get a chance to talk what he wanted about, and Ben and David didn't get the course of the interview they expected and planned, and like they had a silent battle over it. I think they both got nervous at one point when felt Mark is not happy how interview is going. Mark probably wanted to use this platform and event to talk about the future of Meta, Ben and David are by nature of their podcast leaning towards history. They probably wanted to find some middle ground, but it didn't look very natural. But I understand, it's a live event, can't be perfect. I'm sure they'll learn a lot from this one and be much better next time.
It seemed like they were too intimidated by him. He kicked things off with that awkward "I don't apologize anymore," but they just sat there, not pushing for more or asking about what he thought people expected him to apologize for. Instead, they just started with basic questions that we all know about his FB journey and kept praising him, literally every question was pure dickriding, they even seemed scared to ask anything wrong or challenging, there was stupid micro-pause before they spoke like they were afraid of setting him off
I've listened to this 3 times now. The first time I thought David's tangent about the IPO was a little bit awkward, but, after listening 2 more times, I'm so so happy he took us down that path. The stories that followed were fantastic. I've heard Mark talk about open source and AI, but most of the stuff here is all net new and that's not easy to do. Well done.
you guys did a great job with this one. I would be nervous too if i was to interview a titan like mark zuckerberg. The more titans you get to interview the easier it'll get. Keep it going guys. best regards from canada.
The criticism here is weird. They invited Zuckerberg on stage not to ask hard ball questions but as a guest of to this community. Acquired isn't a-dime-a-dozen flashy news podcast. They research stories of companies and tell them in interesting, deep, and entertaining ways. They treat him with the respect of a host to a guest, and he seems to be relaxed (as much as I've seen him relaxed publicly). End of story. Don't know what people expect here. This isn't CNN/FOX/whatever with pressure to create headlines.
You're getting 'hard ball questions' mixed up with fox news and other such shows. Perhaps on purpose. Because you know full well the difference between a pandering interview and actual critical analyst questions. There's nothing 'deep and enriching' about this. This is basically a meta advertisement.
For all the harsh comments about a couple awkward moments I was expecting much worse. Of course these guys are nervous it's not just Mark it's a live stadium audience! But props for carrying out a nice conversation and not asking him the same questions he keeps getting over and over again in other interviews. Learned a lot from this one and I'm looking forward to the next episode!!
Ben and David were definitely awkward in this one! You can see them trying to steer the direction into what they want and asking about golden nuggets they found from the past and it just doesn’t feel natural. Just let the guy talk
Mark is a crazy good Strategist.. Open source Llama, Segment Anything Model, etc.. I have done Vector DB on Llama3 ..or SAM and GroundingDINO to change model dresses etc.. I am a fan of Zuckerberg.. Please note that I got an A+ in Strategic Management from IIM..
All in, this was an excellent video.Presuming that some topics were "inbounds" and others "out-of-bounds", Zuckerberg struck me as being quite candid for a public company CEO. I particularly liked his description of his view of Meta as a technology company when it comes to key management backgrounds. Investors are certainly betting on Mark as a visionary technologist going forward and he is clearly articulating that in this interview. Reminds me of Intel years ago and Apple post-Scully when Jobs returned.
Ben and David, you are awesome! You had built your audience and your business! Well done! To everyone who does not like it, try to do at least the same, and then we talk. I like Ben’s comment/question about putting out the product early, which can damage the brand (but also society…). The answer had just proved why Facebook/Zuckerberg were criticized by public, to be the first out there without thinking of consequences.
I like Mark, he has "his ways" but I like his humility and family values. I believe he really cares about his companies and "learning thru suffering" is not always easy, but is relatable as a person in life in general.
Listened to all their podcasts since I discovered them earlier this year. Liked this interview too. Yes, it might feel a bit awkward'red, but can't blame them. Keep up the good (and interesting) work. Greetings from The Netherlands!
Dude they're sponsored by JP Morgan, one single word off and that sponsorship is gone, that's why they can't make any real question. That guy literally silenced millions of people who had doubts about the pandemic, and nothing happened to him, do you think these podcasters can do anything? They have their hands tied, like almost all influencers and media
Agree that the vibe in this interview between Mark and the hosts could have been better. Ben and David are smart and thoughtful guys but they needed to show more confidence, complement each other's questions better, and truly command the discussion. As listeners, we should have felt a chemistry and connection between everyone on stage that was missing. Of course, any nervousness is understandable when you're interviewing the third richest person in the world in front of 6,000 people. That said, this wasn't a complete fail, either, and had some interesting moments offering us a glimpse into the mind of a technologist leading one of the world's most impactful companies.
Great interview! I listened to the audio at the gym and then watched the video after a walk with my friend. My big takeaway from this is that Meta is ultimately a technology company with talented people that is focused on enabling human connection. I’ve heard the approach of shipping a product quickly and having a feedback loop to learn from users, but it’s clicking more with me now. Looking at Meta that way helps me see the vision behind Reality Labs. Meta is following its goal of enabling human connection. I use video calls every day, but I feel like there is something better that’s coming, and I’m glad smart people are working towards it. I am appreciative of Meta’s open source contributions because I get to benefit from some of the technology smart people have made and possibly contribute to it as well. I was surprised to see Mark comment on politics. He started a project in college likely without politics on his mind, and now it has a role in politics. After collecting feedback, Meta iterates on how it fills this role. Thank you for this insightful interview - it’s nice seeing you guys branch out with a live event and learn in the hot seat. I’m a long time listener and I am excited to see more content going forward!
❤ An absolutely amazing interview with one of the best creators i see. I enjoyed listening and watching what Mark has planned for more in our future. His shirt to was perfect and said something i understood. Best wishes ahead into future of time Mark Zuckerberg 💟
These two interviewers were terrible it felt like Zuck wanted to rip them apart the whole time. He seemed so normal compared to them, his new personality firmware is a work of art.
See the problem with what Mark is saying about incorporating technology into human interaction with glasses is that human interaction is already perfectly imperfect. Trying to improve something as organic as human interaction with technology might be something a lot of people don’t want to do. Which raises the question, if people don’t want this then will giant tech corporations find a way to make it a necessity where everyone has to purchase a pair of these glasses just to get on with their day, much like what happened with smart phones? It’s very threatening and it feels out of our control to say no. “Just smile, say yes and buy the goddamn glasses.”
Calling Zuck a good strategiest is beyond insanity. The guy didn't want to be on mobile and then built crappy html version as the mobile app-all not to be serious about mobile. He literally was forced to have native mobile apps. He didn't understand why Facebook needed them. Then there was a Facebook phone HW project going inside Facebook to have his own mobile platform, but he killed it because he argued with the project lead. And now he runs with his pants on fire, yelling how he needs to own a platform. He literally had unlimited resources, time, and dedicated people to own a chunk of mobile market with his own platform, but he blew it all. Every progress of Facebook was literally forced on him despite his will by his board or investors or stolen from competitors that proved they work. Zuck is a clown who stamblen into a gold mine of locking in users and forcing ads on them who keeps failing in making the company really great and who only ruins life for users by constantly degrading the service. He pretends Facebook is about connecting people but he kills feeds from friends in favour of AI generated irrelevant content to copy TikTok algorithm and show less posts from friends and family. He is a lier and a very bad person.
This interview is almost unwatchable. It's like you guys tried to give the viewer the worst experience possible. The constant deviating from the topic Mark was talking about at the moment was annoying
It's amazing how people allow history to be rewritten like he didn't take the idea he was hired to do the website for, and then disown and betray every business partner and friend he ever seemed to have and catapulted the site and the business by misleading people into giving up their data...? How do we arrive at hero status? This is the same way Diddy, Blake Lively, Kim K. and even Harvey Weinstein were so celebrated- so many people depend on them for their immediate job or long term financial success, where otherwise they'd dial 911 and testify at their indictment. ❤
election interference, censorship, and many many other nasty things, but he smirks: "i don't apologize anymore" also, let's fact check them: Betrayal of Partners: Zuckerberg faced legal disputes with the Winklevoss twins, who claimed he stole their idea for Facebook. The case settled for $65 million, and co-founder Eduardo Saverin also sued over being unfairly diluted, leading to another settlement. Data Misuse: Zuckerberg was heavily criticized for his role in the Cambridge Analytica scandal, where Facebook allowed third-party apps to misuse users' data. He faced legal actions for failing to protect privacy and misleading users about data security. Celebrity Comparisons: Comparisons to figures like Harvey Weinstein are exaggerated. While Zuckerberg has faced ethical criticism, there is no evidence of criminal behavior on that level.
As you see, kids.... even Jeffrey Dalhhhmerrr would be welcome on the podcast and interview circuit too in today's world if he could get clicks and views.
