the Boks simply never underestimate the AB's. There'll be no over confidence. Boks probably prefer underdog status so this is a change. It's a new style of play and a new 4 year cycle heading to the next WC. Experiments and work in progress to find lasting combinations looking ahead. I'm guessing the AB's will have a few curveballs for the Boks to deal with, no doubt Rassie has a few of his own. But who really minds all the fiddly stuff, c'mon - AB's vs Boks at Ellis Park - it's a doozy ! THE doozy !!
The aspect to me that people are not really commenting on is that the SA selection is less settled than the ABs. They chose to rotate against Australia which builds depth, but doesn’t make their patterns of play that consistent. NZ have struggled with a locking crisis - essentially, the root of their own inconsistency in tests so far - but with Scott Barrett coming back and Vaa’i and Darry starting to step up I feel they are making progress there. It may be unpopular, but I think the ABs are well set for an upset and Ellis Park has been a relatively happy hunting ground for them in recent years.
As a Bok fan I cannot wait. These AB tests are always the highlight of my year. I have not missed a SINGLE SA/NZ test since 1995, no matter where I have been in the world at the time. Buddy of mine from Aus is flying over to visit us where we live in Europe and arrives a few hours before kickoff - it’ll be braai time come Saturday, and hopefully my Aussie mate will get to see what two real rugby teams look like! @@zwet4269 those two wins under rassie took us to 5-5 under rassies management. With our new coach and our from row, tamighty, cody, lomax, im certainly not worried there. As a kiwi. We will come right but right now Bokke are on another level and will be a touhh contest. Heart says Abs but mind says Bokkes will win both. Anyway good luck to both and fans alike, enjou the game, much reapect 🫡
I’m very nervous as a Kiwi. We are lacking tall timber in the loose forwards. Those SAFFAs are monsters and we have got line-out problems. We don’t have enough players over 2 metres. However I’m hoping we can flatten them in the rucks and mauls. Be brutal in competition but gracious in losing. Go ABs
Very possible. It's always possible but slightly more so this weekend as the Boks seem to have a lock problem of note. AB's also have one but less so if Etsebeth is out. Scott Barrett is on par with Etsebeth and Eben out and Scott playing might just create an opening. It may give the AB's some dominance. Which they can put to pretty good use on a firm pitch like Ellispark.
Leon was the attack coach for the All Blacks not the defense coach. Can't wait for the game it should be epic, watching these two teams play each other to me is the holy grail of rugby matches as they have such a great history with each other.
Bok fan here. I’m confident the Boks could win, but at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if the All Blacks won. I think we have a rare opportunity beat the All Blacks well. We look good, and the All Blacks have had some up and down results. We have altitude and a crowd behind us at Elis Park and we won’t get a much better chance of beating the all blacks than this. So we have to take the chance. It’s important for the Boks to win and win well, so that there can be no doubt that they are truly the best team in the world and worthy champions.
A Bok supporter here… always nervous when up against the AB’s but always back the Boks! I’m not sure Leon M’s departure will disrupt the AB’s much, if at all. They’re too professional for that. Hopefully this is a time for the Boks to steady that recent win:loss ratio at their home grounds. Come on Bokke! 🙌
Yes the right decision by both men no disruption before the SA leg and ill call it the Abs are looking forward to the challenge by the world Champions. Let's go
NZ will be hungry to get back to the perch of world rugby and SA will be hoping to get to their best as you said, so its gna be a fascinating game and tough to call a winner. Go bokke!
The AB's forwards have to really continue forwarding again this week and DMac needs to continue to play smart rugby like he did against the Pumas. If the AB's get one win, then that's a win for the team moving forward.
NZL have 20 titles vs SA with 4. This is best chance with a new AB team for SA to win the title. However SA have a long way to go to get anywhere near the record of the ABs. Will be a mighty few matches. Can’t wait!
I'm a Boks supporter, however there is no favorites tag when these rugby giants meet. Everything will come down to the accuracy of the out of hand kicking from 9 & 10 (Reinach & Sasha).
With a full squad it wouldn't surprise me if the Boks had a slight advantage at Ellis park, however the Boks missing their best 6 locks due to injuries so it might be a weakness with just Ruan Nortjé / van Rensburg and probably unfortunately won't have PSDT at flank as he'll be moved to lock at some stage. It's a 50/50 and with NZ bringing in the heavy weights we might see the Boks trying to run the ABs off their feet for a change.
I think this game is going to be epic. I dont even mind who wins. My concerns, if the Bokke loose there will be people who moan about the injuries. If the AB’s loose, there will be people who moan about Leon McDonald. Let up hope that I am wrong…..
WIth the squad announced without Eben and RG and Willie, I will settle for a draw in Jhb and go for a win in CT with some re-enforcements hopefully available
how do I feel leading up to the Ellis Park test...? ..calm and cool I think the new crop of players in the ABs have to prove that they are there for a reason...they can stamp their emerging greatness on world rugby and go on to be the next Whitelock or Kaino etc... so...I know ...have no doubts ..the new players are destined for a long time at the top of a winning team....I am not into analysing individual players pros and cons...thats a job for JK and Pod people however its easy enough to make a call before a big game... my score is ...ABs 28 ...Boks 23
Will be decided who is stronger in the back field i think. If NZ don't do a good job under the highball.. kolbe and Arendse will skin us. If they dont exit well it opens up SAs power game. On the otherside i think if the ABs can kick well and make them contestable they can pressure a small back 3. I Also think the ABs may be able to attack SA defensive lineout ball.
I think Leon leaving is a good move if it's not working. Nothing positive can come from him hanging around longer if it's been determined that he's not a good fit. They have another 17 coaches in the ABs line up so they should be fine.
Jeez, which other team on the planet can play a fourth string lock combo against the ABs? Out due to injury: Jean Klein RG Snyman Lood Mosterd Eben Etsebeth Salman Moerat.... The possible starting locks will have 3 caps between them.. This effects the Bomb squad etc!
Part of a coaches job is looking after players. It is only SA to blame since they choose to have their players playing both Northern and Southern hemisphere rugby, rather than rest players. End of day, each team puts on best 23 they can. Pretty simple! Hope SA, should they lose, don’t use excuse of injuries
Boks are RWC champs and best team in the world. Suggest you start wearing and owning that favourite tag. ABs are underdogs with new team…they have nothing to lose now and all to gain
Yeah, if the Boks really want to win 2 on the bounce against the All Blacks, never a better chance than the next 2 games. But you really can never write the All Blacks off.

Yes, but will it be a real shock? Don't think so. They beat each other fairly regularly lately. The equalizer may be the new coach and loss of some experience for the ABs vs the overrated Boks. Mouth-watering clash incoming!
