My friend was wrongfully convicted of rape and sat 32 years in prison until the women that accused him and got him thrown in prison finally felt guilty enough to tell the truth about how she was mad at him and lied to ruin his life.
She was never charged with falsifying police reports or anything, just left alone instead of having to spend the same 32 years in prison and pay restitution to my friend.
My friend John unfortunately passed away from stage 4 cancer just a few short years after being released from prison.
Rest easy BIG John!!

How people are sentenced without physical evidence is beyond me. The judicial system is corrupt. I hope all the people who are wrongly convicted get the justice and compensation they deserve.

When Police and/or Prosecutors .. lie, cheat, mislead, hide evidence - that leads to a conviction .. then later overturned .. they should face years in Prison themselves.

Yeah, wouldn't happen in most countries but you find a LOT in America. Also, just a not, America has the most people incarcerated of their population than anyone in the world. More than double actually. There is a correlation I feel.
Not only do you lose your child, but you get convicted of it, thrown behind bars for over two decades, and sentenced to death?!? How absolutely awful. That detective should have had criminal charges brought against him!!!!!!!!!!

What bugs me incredibly is that many of these people never received compensation for what can only be described as torture.
Psychological torture, your identity being smashed, turning the world against you by falsely informing them and then spending years behind bars between the worst that society has to offer.
How many people in these situations committed suicide and are not in this video.
But that would mean the prisons are not safe and lacking basic human care.

I can tell you first hand that being in prison is know cake walk, and these people went through more trauma due to the fact of being instant then I went through being guilty

@@knockout-hour7606 You would have to prove intent rather than just error, it is easy to suggest someone might be guilty of something and do so in good conscience but find out they were not guilty. Its impossible to charge people for false allegations unless they are malicious

I think that, in these cases where the detective has clearly been caught lying to the court on multiple occasions, an independent body (it needs to be independent, because his department will sweep it under the rug) should go back and review all the cases he was involved in.
I wonder how many other innocent people are rotting in jail/prison because he was too lazy to do his job properly? I shudder at the thought...

The false accusers should be given LIFE sentences... Anything less than that is totally unacceptable! The corrupt cops, prosecutors and court officials would be less eager to get convictions without proper investigations.

The first man I saw broke my heart, being an undocumented immigrant and after arresting him with no evidence for this long they still trying to deport him and not pay him the $720,000 he is owed for wrong convictions! I wanna throw up

Florida State law is that someone with past criminal history doesn't qualify for compensation.

The people that put these innocent people behind bars should lose their jobs and any pensions or retirements they get from their jobs. I'm disgusted. This system is a failure and I would love to change it.

I spent 10 years in prison,for something I did(bank robbery)could not be upset at no one but me,,I can't imagine going to jail for all those years for something I did not do...

That is horrible. As someone who did 5 years in federal prison for weed, I feel terrible for each and everyone who is falsely accused and locked up. No place for a human, much less an innocent one. Glad they got their freedom back. Was fun to watch. Great video
Thats insane. I am from the UK and as a teenager the police caught me and my pals with half an ounce,, they just told us not to smoke in public and left. We were basically in a bar area and there were bushes so we were smoking between beers. The fact the USA jails people for weed is horrendous. Land of the free?
@@anyexpat Weed has been legalized in recent years. But yeah, land of the free is just propaganda at this point. At one time I was almost arrested for simply going to school one freezing morning with apparently the wrong clothes, and a "bulging backpack".

A lot of this was before DNA testing was invented.
Simple explanation. Prosecutors and defense attorneys make deals deciding fate of accused even before they hit the courts, or even !!! before they are accused.
@@gusmarokity6482 not everyone is pribeable, but a bit thing is the Money. Laywers arent cheap and you dont get a laywer from the country by the state like here in Germany when it comes to court. So maybe you need to get a laywer that you could just afford and hes bad.
@ThomasDiesch Mr.Diesch your comment is not very clear to me. My case was almost twenty years ago. I had three public defender and two state ie. Court ie. Judge appointed one by the time of my trial because of me having no money.

It sickens me that some of these wrongfully convicted were sent to prison or death row,because of crooked cops,jury or judges. That didn't want to do their job accordingly or were so bias. That they just wanted to pin the blame on some unlucky individuals
I don’t think it’s necessarily crooked, just incompetence or tunnel vision. It’s still wrong but I don’t think the majority of the cases are due to crookedness!
What makes me angry is all of the compulsive liars are not held accountable at all. Yet if I filed a false police report or made a bogus 911 call, I’d be held liable.

I can understand the joy these people feel when they are set free. I will never understand how they can say thank you for the treatment they received and the torture they endured during their trials. I have no idea what it must be like, so I just don't understand.
The payouts are a freaking joke! Payouts should be painful to explain to the taxpayer. Immunity for the crooked investigators and prosecutors is an outrage! The juries that convicted these people should be brought back in to face their victim and be forced to hear what their victim has to say about them.
they say thank you to the new judge who unike the one who convicted them sees the conviction was wrongfully done. and that new judge set them free and clear their name. the person isnt saying thanks to the police or court that got himm in jail on false evidence but to the judge that clears their name

RIP Khaleif Browder. We will never forget you. Browder, innocent lad held in Rikers Island, brutalized by innates and gaurds, released when ruled he was innocent, he was not compensated, he received no rehabilitation. He commited suicide from the trauma.

Instead of apologizing and paying them the money they are owed, the judicial system fights against paying the wrongly convicted their due restitutions.
That woman lost her child and had to morn his death in prison while his actual killer went free. SICK. The detective should get that same prison sentence.

What stands out is that these people were mainly convicted unjustifiable due to evidence that identifies corruption. Absolutely tragic. And as the lady said, "this could happen to you." So scary.
What gets me is that the ones that find them guilty at a whim with absolutely no proof……… these people need to be charged and put on death row themselves 🤬
my teacher once said that being a judge is like putting your right foot in heaven and your left foot in hell, because a judge's decision can save innocent people's lives or destroy innocent people's lives
Note: I live in a country where the trial system is judges who award guilt or not guilt, not a jury

Being falsely accused - of anything - has always seemed to me to be one of the most horrendous things. The state can be the same as a murdering terrorist in such cases. One of my wisest college teachers advised -- if you are falsely accused -- to hire the most effective law firm to protect your liberty & reputation. Sell everything to raise money to get the best lawyer.
The sad part is that false accusations nowadays occurs a lot and even when identified liars still roam free in the streets with no punishment. The judicial system is deeply corrupt

I’m an old ex con and was always guilty of my crimes but MANY times innocent people go to prison because district attorneys too often only want to win their cases no matter what. 100 people were immediately released from death row when DNA evidence came about 😮😮😮

I don't have to imagine, I am in a similar situation. The difference is I got ten year sentence which is practically almost fourteen with five year parole and, the kicker, may never see my children. Saw my daughter just when she turned three and my boy when he was four in 2005. As of today I still can't see them and because of brainwashed they may never want to see me.

Alot of cases i swear the detectives just pin the crime on who they suspect the most just for the case to be closed and they can receive credit. Absolutely know care for a persons life and freedom.

The compensation is pathetic and reflects the utter contempt and disregard the state holds for its victims. Maybe a minimum starting point of one hundred million would actually give the state officials the motivation to fix the problem in the first place .

No one should ever be convicted without physical evidence. A lot of witnesses lie, and/or remember things wrong.
It’s shocking how cops and juries will blindly believe and convict someone based solely on a confession but will dismiss someone who professes their innocence.

I am living this with my husband, my husband in 2015 was arrested for a murder that he didn’t commit there was no DNA no fingerprints and they denied him gun residue test, and he was arrested within an hour of the shooting named Jeff, that who was actually the killer and still is it that turn states evidence saying it was my husband but even a person from the jail cell that Jeff was in admitted admitted that Jeff was in there, boasting about being the killer and the witness from the jail had details of the killing that was never released but because just took a plea deal, I feel like they just immediately wanted my husband to pay even know he was guilty because they couldn’t get actual killer my husband’s been in prison now over eight years and we just want the truth out there and for him to be set free unfortunately, you can’t afford lawyers. This is an uphill battle. he has missed out on his kids lives. His grandkids lives now all because the state of Kansas just wanted someone to pay when it was the truth or not also the lead detective on this case later on a couple years later was fired for corruption, and having people lie on the stand so taking sexual favors to help people not get charges as long as they would do what he asked him to do on the stand until he said free, and the truth is out

When I studied criminology we had some case studies of people who were wrongly convicted. For some of them the worst thing about it all was that even after they were let go after years or decades in prison, the people around them didn't believe them. It doesn't matter that their sentence got overturned, they were still guilty in the eyes of the people. They couldn't find jobs, were abandoned by family and friends. Their lives were still ruined, even after leaving prison.
What a series of shocking situations that these innocent people have ended up having to spend either their lives in prison or on death row when innocent. It is appalling that so many of the States in the U.S.A either pay no compensation or fight it is shocking and unacceptable. It should be mandatory for all States to pay compensation at a predetermined level.
How dare they fight paying these people! No Amount can give there life and horrible experiences back but they deserve millions and millions!!! Pay these people!!
