Afrobeat (minus the S’) is not the only genre to come out of Africa! It’s just one part of Africa, why do many still use Africa as a blanket statement! Gets on my nerves! I come from Zambia, back in the 70s we had ZamRock! It was our own music genre, similar to soft rock/ traditional instruments and singing! Many British and America UPCOMING artists, including Paul McCartney, visited Zambia to work with artist (maybe steal 🤔), civil rights leaders and Pan Africans, from all over were also travelling to the landlocked country! It wasn’t the narrative meant for us, so they hit us with the big A.I.Ds (mind you first ever patient with this virus was a prostitute, sleeping with foreign pilots). Discouraging young people from socialising, no discos and certainly no music that promotes that! From then on were not known for ZamRock but rather the big A. Virus/disease, Poverty and famine!
