I'm enjoying your 5-part series. Super well done. We haven't been north of Houghton, looking forward visiting it sometime in the next couple years. Might pull our 570 2-seater Sportsman to Hancock on our trailer and ride from there. 👍👍👍

In many parts, it is a look back in time. I gravitate to the good old days. I would have liked it in the 1940's and 1950's. Whatever time you plan, double it. There is so much to see! Best of luck and thank you so much for the support.

Hello!!! I'm from Brazil, and I'm really enjoying watching your trip. Here it is not possible to make a trip of this type.
    Thanks for sharing your trip.
Um grande abraço virtual. (A big virtual hug.)

Thank you for visiting the channel and watching the videos. I am sorry that you can't make this trip due to your location. But, we can keep making videos so you can enjoy from your location. Maybe some day you can visit the states and make a similar ride yourself. It has been my pleasure to share the trip through video. Thank you for the virtual hug!

Hello fellow ATV overlander. I am part of a group that has been on some major ATV overlanding trips in the UP. We are setting out on another in August of 2023. The most we have covered was just shy of 800 miles in 5 days. On our longest day yet we covered 250 miles in one day.

Thank you for visiting the channel and watching this video. I thought the miles we racked up were extreme! It sounds like your group is extreme on steroids! The aggressive overland sounds fun fun fun! Thank you for passing your numbers on to the channel. Now I know my expectations are not as unrealistic as I once thought!

Nice videos, thank you! It sure takes a lot of miles in the UP with the 700+ to get around. It is big and full of places to see. I am now a subscriber!

Really enjoying discovering your channel. I find it very calming. I'm an avid atv enthusiast in northern Wisconsin. Visit the U.P. of Wisconsin a lot. I said that on purpose.....😀. Keewenaw peninsula is very cool. Great work. Look forward to viewing more.

Thank you for visiting the channel and watching this video. So Wisconsin wants Michigan's UP! I am so glad you found your way to this channel. Your feedback is so valuable to me. FYI, the next five Fridays, I am re-releasing the five part series of the Michigan UP ATV Overland with added narration. You may find some of the narration info helpful.
In 2022, we have an April trip to Geels, St Helen, Bull Gap, and Alcona trails. In June, we will be on Drummond Island and in the Black Lake area of Michigan. In August, we will be doing another overland, not sure where yet. Stay tuned and I am glad you love the videos on this channel. Thanks again!

Hello you have an awesome website I just got done watching part two of your Western UP trip, how do you go about planning a trip of that magnitude I’m assuming GPS comes into play but what about always having a signal throughout the trip. I know you use the app Gaia but did that hold Throughout the trip, you should think about being a guide you do an awesome job can’t wait to watch 3rd 4th, 5th episodes, how did you know about the police escort that you needed I have so many questions in regards to taking a trip like that, blows me away you have one of the best channels on TH-cam I’ve ever come across in regards to ATVs , I ride in the lower peninsula Gaylord Mancelona area Frederick lovells , kalkaska. I would pay to be involved in a trip like that. I could ask you questions for hours so any and all information would be greatly appreciated. I’m sure you hear from me again after I watch the other three episodes of the Western UP trip. Thank you so much for your knowledge and awesome footage. Thomas

Thank you for visiting the channel and watching this video. To help answer your first question, please checkout my playlist "Gaia GPS". This has three videos, the first two about using Gaia GPS on the web and on an iPad. The third probably gives you a glimpse of how I trip plan. For this overland trip, I would say it took me about 6-8 hours of total planning. In this time, I looked over the trails, then used Google to search for lodging, restaurants, and gas stations, placed waypoints for these types of services, and then began mapping a day using the route feature of Gaia GPS. The route displays the miles as the route is mapped. Then rinse and repeat for the second, third days and so on. I use Gaia GPS as we drove the route and that is the GPS data used in the animation on the front end of ATV riding videos.
I purchased a publication from the off road trail club that maintains trails in the western UP. In that spiral bound book are maps and pre-planned routes to help plan a trip based on interest. But, since our trip was an overland, the pre-planned trips in the publication were not used. In this publication was the information about the police escort for the Portage Lake Bridge between Houghton and Hancock.
Feel free to email me at scott@mylifesreward.com and if you would like, we can connect to help with your questions. I appreciate the compliments about the channel and the videos. This helps me know what people like in videos.
Also, I posted yesterday Day #1 of the same trip you are referencing and added narration. I will be adding narration to the remainder of the videos in that series over the next four Fridays.
Thank you for your remarkable comments!

I'm enjoying watching these from Florida. I also wish you could overlay some narration. I'd also like to see how you guys are rigged out... What's with the police escort deal to cross the bridge? What do you have to do to set that up? Are there places to camp along the trails? Thanks for putting the videos up!

Thank you for visiting the channel and taking the time to comment on the videos. I posted a new ATV video today that had already been produced previous to yours and pdm1942 comment about narration. This new ATV video for the Two Heart Trail does not have narration either. I will plan to re-post the entire Western UP video series with narration to see if that helps with what is happening. Then, based on feedback, I may continue the narration in new ATV videos. This feedback is timely since I have been re-thinking the audio track for ATV videos in the last few months. I did not think viewers would want to hear the sound of the ATV engine or the wind noise. But, the music tracks are not the answer either. Perhaps it is a combination of narration and music faded lower during narration portions. Let's give it a try and see where it goes. Love the feedback, thank you!

I will put together a video of the ATV's we use, the trailer, the tow vehicles, and accessories used for day and overland trips. Great timing on this request with the colder weather coming in. I need ideas for videos to carry us through the winter season. Thank you!

For the police escort across the Portage Lake Bridge, I will include the procedure in the narration.

The trail winds through enough state and federal forest lands that in my opinion, it would be easy enough to disburse camp. I did not pay too much attention to campground facilities since we were staying in hotels and cabins. I did a Google search just now and it appears in the general area of the trails we were on, there are about a dozen campgrounds that popup if you are looking for something more than disbursed camping. Here is the link for that search: www.google.com/maps/search/campgrounds/@46.7154247,-89.017633,9z

I just found your site here . Sure could use some narration , confused most of the time, like where did the other 2 riders go to? Are we heading north or south or east or west ? What is the name of this town ? I'm going to keep watching though, so I may learn more !

My apologies. The map at the beginning gives the overall route and then the video that follows are snippets from the beginning to the end. I considered activating the gps on my Gopro but then the GPS data is baked into all of the video. There is probably a better way. Thanks for watching the video and visiting the channel.

Curious, where did you run into the barrier on the trail? Were you using a GPS mapping software?

    • @MyLifesReward
      @MyLifesReward  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I believe at coordinates 47.42167, -88.07743, Gay Lac la Belle Road, near 41 and the Montreal River was the location of the barrier. On the DNR mapping system, the trail is named "Snow UP 3".

It's a shame you couldn't get through on the original trail. I have no idea what the problem was but, I do know that both Houghton and Hancock are extremely liberal communities so,,,that might have been the problem. they actually dislike atv's and utv's.
