I got cut off by Coco one time and I got bummed when she looked back and kicked out. I really wanted to share a wave with her. I was saying “go go go!” But I think she heard “no no no!” I would have been honored to surf behind her. She is a respectable person for sure.

6:30 "if it's going to be girl shit"... i get it, I'm not offended... but come on!? That's your daughter. By the look on her face - she's already years beyond your time/generation. These little sayings is what makes people hide who they are. Whether it's a guy that wonders if he's gay if he crys or a girl growing up not even considering the idea of becoming a mechanic. It's subconscious. It's like saying "this is a man's car!" or "don't hit like a girl" non of it is offensive... but these little seeds you plant, they shape the world.

Love it! Very inspiring to watch. I wish we had more access to stuff like this when I was growing up. It was hard being the girl hanging with the boys, for me in snowboarding and wake boarding. Tom boy to women, like woohoo, trying to catch up with all the girl stuff you all of sudden felt like you missed out on,( really we didn't) Love the history, Love the style, Love the energy, I am a new Fan, I feel the rush just sitting here and you got this girl!!

OMG, this is awesome. Just listening to everyone's passion brings me to tears of joy. I've been a surf enthusiast since I was a kid. I'm finally going to Hawaii in January and so excited to go visit the North Shore.
I remember hearing that you can sit at pipeline and feel the vibration of the waves crashing. I can already feel the excitement in my bones. Definitely won't surge Pipeline, but I just want to sit on the beach and feel the energy. Not only from the waves, but all the history and surfer vibes from past and present. 💙

In '88 I was on North Shore for couple months and one day surfing Kammies (near Sunset) watched her dad Micheal come out one day and totally tear the place apart. Loco!

The girls are more inspirational than the guys in so many ways...Coco, Steph Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Leah Dawson, the list goes on...I love watching them surf, and oozing love for the sport. Keep it up, ladies!

I love Coco Ho, I think she's a genuine star and an amazing surfer.
But I just don't think she has the consistency to get a World Title - but if her and her team realize that it it's really just this issue of consistency, and manage to get it sorted out, I think she would be in the runnings for World Title immediately.

I dont get wave surfing competitions. What are they judged on? They are just going back and forth in a wave. No jumps or triks with different technical difficulty's. It must be really subjective judging.
Coco is cool but Steph saying the Ho family is the most Royal Hawaiian Family to ever touch the ocean? Uh is she outta her fucking mind? First of all they don't come close to Duke Kahanamoku or the Buffalo Kealana family or the Napolean family from Waimanalo where Aaron & Darren Napoleon's father is a true watemen legend! Don't get me wrong The Ho's are bad ass but slow your role gurl.
I know its lame but I rarely have full respect for a pro athlete that does not have a college degree. Weird stigma, but it occurs to me that a lifetime of leisure and recreation not supplemented with a higher standard of cognitive development is that equivalent to a box of pictures. Pictures of what was and not necessarily of what is possible out side of there respective sport.
It takes hard work to win a title. Past accomplishments only get you so far in life. Can't wait to watch Coco rise!!!

I remember watching Derek tearing it up in the 80s and early 90s winning the triple crown alot and finally the world championship. This brought back some old memories I haven’t thought about in a long time. 👍

I didn’t miss prom and did normal high school stuff. What I did miss is the ability to surf but now that I am 58 I can almost afford to do whatever I want, if I want something that bad. Again of course within reason. Surfing isn’t out of the question and that’s exactly what I am doing. I’m excited that’s for sure
