- Life of Kai, a new series from Indigenous Films and presented by Tag Heuer, rolls on with Episode 4 here on Red Bull Surfing. This week, Kai's big wave antics continue in Nazaré when he's invited to compete in the Gigantes de Nazaré competition. Watch as Kai and Lucas Chumbo Chianca put on a mind-blowing show for the crowd lined on the cliff overlooking Praia do Norte.

Wow that Billy Kemper ride was unbelievable!
Haven’t surfed in over 45 years but for ten years, it was my life from 13 to 23.
My heroes were guys like Greg Noll, Eddie Aikau, Rick Grigg, Pat Curren, I reckon the pioneers of big wave surfing. But unlike Kai, who’s doing things unimaginable in my day, my first time at Pipeline at 8-12 nearly killed me and since had enough fun and thrills at 6-8.
We thought we needed heavy 10-12 foot skinny guns to get down the face with the wind trying to hold you up. The guns helped tame the chop but Kai is using them like a jump ramp and flipping aerials and playing in the pocket that I was trying to outrace. Of course my biggest was no bigger than 15 and I wonder, with towing, safety vests and skiis ready to assist, would I have tried big waves?
Nah.
I was out at Haleiwa at 15 by accident. Couple of waves and one two wave hold down and I never liked going out over 8 feet. There’s fun and there’s scared out of your mind, fighting for your life.
Huge respect for Kai and the big wave guys. Always gets my heart pounding and my mind and body feeling it... even after 45 years.
Why did you stop surfing?
Wait....so now they're not just riding these monsters, but doing tricks and playing around on them?! RESPECT. Amazing stuff.

Sliding down a green wave on a board is one of the best feelings I've ever had. Even on a really small wave. Worth trying. If you're new to it use a nice big board, minimum 8 feet, or you won't manage to catch and take off on the wave. Start in small surf. Good luck!

Surfing is pure fun and joy... But, this is not. This is pure madness and nightmare 😱🤣Scooby and Maya are proof of the enormous danger that Nazareth represents even for big riders
Just a couple years ago guys were only being towed into these massive waves, now there's like 20 guys just paddling into it.
Absolutely incredible. Just insane progress in the sport. Love to see it!

Crazy energy vibe everything. I know every (extreme) sports is a little enclave in our shared existence, but these folks are just completely on another level. So in tune with the primal forces and raw surrounds of nature. And having fun with it. Absolutely crazy. Never late to try it out. Greetings from a 34 year old skateboarder from the Netherlands.
