Merci vielmals!
Any sailplane is beautiful, but what was V2? I would think that a sailplane has a high L/D, greater than your typical heavy jet but the roll out seemed long. The ground speed (suggested by the view out the canopy) suggested a high speed.
Looks like a jetcat 1000 pro. Jetcat is one the biggest rc turbine manufacturers since the early 2000s.Not sure if their pro series have more certificates for use in GA. This Arcus has to be in the US experimental class for sure. Which is awesome. Otherwise, this video wouldn't be here.
@@jonkje I'd be surprised if they have any aviation certification: small (very small) market & big cost. That said, what's the reliability of these units like?
The jet engines used on JS gliders are basically modified RC jets. The one on this sailplane is much closer to avation grade equipment and I believe was initially designed for cruise missiles.
@lautoka63 I believe AMT and Jakadofdky have certified turbines. In the UK flies a Pitts Special with two AMT turbines mounted next to the cockpit for additional power. Rich Goodwin airshows.
@lautoka63 jetcat and other rc turbines are alle single stage turbines. One compressor, and one turbine wheel. Jetcat is one of the oldest and wel known brands on the market, reliable for sure, but the turbines are heavier compared to newer brands. My 80N turbine weighs 700 gram, brushless starter motor, brushless fuel pump, ECU, GSU and lipo battery. Automatic engine restart after flame out. Acceleration from idle to max power around 3,5 seconds.Maintenance intervals usually after 25 hours, some brands 50 hours. So you have to ship them back to the dealer. In general very reliable powerplants.
It´s an experimental airplane, so I believe noise is not a problem in the US. I don´t know about the consumption but I would guess we burned at least 40 l of Jet A1
You can´t compare a microlight plane with a glider. Gliders are for soaring, even if they have a propulsion. Of course there are many cheaper microlight and other planes on the market...
As a German glider Pilot I can´t imagine this would pass the approval procedure by the LBA (our FAA).. At least because of noise issues. Maybe with an "Experimental" approvement. But I would also be interested to see one
@@tangoceraIt was a LS4 Jet. With the Arcus Jet the big difference is that it’s much more powerful and you can self launch with it. Also certification and noise problems are easier when it’s only a sustainer 😉
Looooooong take off run. I wonder what the break down cost per launch is. Engine unit cost, conversion cost, fuel consumption. In Britain, a club I am a member of (Denbigh Gliding) hosts two Arcus M's it is deemed sensible to take an Aerotow saving engine hours, delaying servicing and TBO costs and downtime.
Takeoff with water ballast even with two pilots? Jet exhaust is hot (as pointed out). Is it ok to just stow it so quickly or is that editing? I would not want to look back there and see fire.
The smoothest butter landing
JP is a fantastic pilot! We flew with 4 or 5 different aircraft and he nailed it every time!

The ultimate in glider design!!
Best invention ever! I love this machine.
Gut geflogen, Stefan! Danke, dass du den Ton repariert hast.
Immer wieder gerne!
Very Nice Stefan! Thanks! 🙂
Der Arcus ist schon ein schickes Gerät!
Living the American Dream… mit JetCat Antrieb wohlverstanden 👍

Hope the heat insulation is good once that jet goes inside the body....great piece of kit!
it probably cools down after shut down before it even goes back inside, air cooled lol
😮 looks fun , nice sweet video thank you for your sharing
So cool!!
😮 this is one thing I would love to try out doing,, looks exciting exhilarating , WOW
Fuel lasts about how long with continuous use? Ballpark cost?
I always wondered - are these jets just glorified RC turbines or is someone actually making real airplane certified jets at this size?

Hi Stef, what a crazy glider but what about noise and consumption?😢 What kind of Jet is it?
It´s an experimental airplane, so I believe noise is not a problem in the US. I don´t know about the consumption but I would guess we burned at least 40 l of Jet A1
That engine is not certified for takeof's per the EASA TCDS, yet it is used for take-off. May I know how is it allowed and made possible.
Just curious……. what are the military applications? Could the military use a black, silent glider?
Awesome
so cool
Is this turbo fan engine
Again a very impressive video. The jet engine might be too noisy for an european registration? Good luck for the competition ahead!
Thank you!
How is self launching glider different from airplane?
we have in Uk a microlight plane

90 kts on the ASI, but the vario only showed +3?
Unfortunately Stefan the chances of being allowed to self-launch in Deutschland are zero…. ☹️ Great video as always though.
Yes, that’s true 😢
POV: your friend says he has a private jet.
The jet:
You even need a jet rating in the US to fly it 😅
What is the weather like?😊
Crazy, didn't even know this existed until your oshkosh video. Do you know If there is one or Something Like this one in / near Germany?

@@Halfi79 I think I saw a LS-3 jet conversion in one of Steffans videos but not sure If that was in Germany.

nice backseat perspective

Good question. I think JP made a cool run before he stowed it
Wow
nice :)
Next step is the afterburner
Melting the whole rear section of the sailplane 😅

And a GAU8
kam gestern schon mal oder ? ;)
Now put a GE 90 on it
looked like human powered airplane in the back of the hanger?
I thought the same but I beliefe it is an unmanned solar plane

Not completely sure. At least 80 liters
