  • The full name of the show is "If My Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die" (aka Oshi ga Budokan Ittekuretara Shinu.. now you can see why fans shorten the title lol), its based on a manga but also has an anime adaptation. Highly recommend you check out any of those if you are an idol fan! The franchise is about a small underground idol group and their hardcore fans, one of them absolutely adores the one member no one cares about.. but unbeknownst to her, her idol adores her back, but due to the taboo of breaking the parasocial relationship of fan/idol.. they can never tell each other.

Matsumura-Chan is an a surprisingly good actress, and I wonder of she realizes the millions of fans she has introduced to Japan's Idol culture through her work here and in Kakegurui as the Yumemi Yumemite character. When I first saw Yumemi on screen 4 years ago, I had no idea what an Idol was; today, as I write this, I'm in Japan for my 2nd summer vacation spent pursuing Nogizaka46 pilgrimage spots and being fortunate enough to meet 3 of my 1st-generation heroes.

That is so cool! Hope your having fun :) I got into idols through Revue Starlight (Takarazuka is a precursor to idol culture) and been obsessed with them ever since.. even years later.. loved the wholesome portrayal of an idol otaku that Matsumura plays in this! Will definitely check out Kakegurui. And thats great you got to meet your heroes, I hope to see Mimori-san perform live someday.. and now that shes moving to North America, I am one step closer to my dream lol

@@otomon5 Thank you, and I hope you can someday meet your hero as well. If it is any consolation, I will say that your biggest expense on any Japan vacation is the flight getting here; once you've arrived (and depending on how much you want to stay on the road and thus incur transportation costs), it is surprisingly affordable. I don't speak much Japanese, but it is amazing what dressing a little nicer than normal and trying to be polite can do for you. I've stayed here for 2 months this time, and even visited many of the filming locations in Okayama from my base here outside Tokyo; if you figure that much of your expense is money you would have to spend if you were sitting at home anyway (food, transportation, utilities, etc), then it isn't as bad as you think.
