As a kid, Lynch was traumatized by going down the stairs into the subway. He felt like he was going down into "hell" with its wind & peculiar sounds. There it is, probably.
Some directors spend 4 years trying to write a screenplay, some others experimenting with technology and some others trying to get new ideas. And then it's Lynch....staring at stairs....I love Lynch btw
Nicolás Bugueño very nice, i am agree with you..because your words are explaining the Modern Art: "what the artist want to say and how did you feel" is the double message!
That’s the beauty of Lynch’s films. You don’t have to understand any of it in order to love and experience it. It’s all about how it makes you feel and what the film does to you. He’s my favorite filmmaker and I fucking love him.
well as with Lynch this is interpretational, but to me I think it represents seeing all the improvements and greater paths you could make for yourself, but instead doing nothing as time wastes away. You see yourself just stay stagnant as the world moves on.
Read the description. It's an intervalometer experiment. Do you just think Lynch comes up with his idea of cinematography out of nowhere? Sometimes it takes a director more than 10 years to make another great film. You just think it's so easy. Or, by "greater paths" you mean making Hollywood movies?
Maybe Lynch was just trolling us by making a film in which it's just stairs, and seeing what protracted interpretations people come up with. Which is ironically my interpretation.
What are you even talking about? Every modern artist is trolling? What? Maybe you're the troll. You seem like a pretty dumb angry sensitive little person to get so worked up over nothing. Go away.
Wow. Nice one. You really showed me. Yeah that's right, too dumb. To cry 'idiot' is indeed the first recourse of an idiot, so congratulations on that. Yet I'm the lazy one, right? Ha. Let's hope that next time you want to express a difference in opinion, you can do so in an intelligent manner that doesn't rely on petty insults. Still mystified as to what your actual problem is. It's a video of fucking stairs. What are you, the arbiter of all that is true modern art? Why don't you come down off that high horse if yours. You're showing yourself up as an ignoramus.
The Face of The Alphabet There's nothing petty about calling you an idiot, and "it takes one to know one" is as immature a retort as they come. "It's a video of fucking stairs" is the calling card of a true idiot. It doesn't take an arbiter of jack shit to know that "Its just _____!" is the most pathetic way someone could try to understand art.
Yes it is. Every moron on the internet who can't properly articulate themselves falls back on the "you're just an idiot" line. So fucking lame. Try harder. Everything about you is petty, you took extreme offence to my frankly vanilla comment about this video, and immediately resorted to silly name calling and accusations. Who made you the decider of artistic meaning? Do you have some insight into this artwork that no one else has? Of course not. And as a matter of fact, yes it really is just stairs. Literally that's what this video is, a time lapse of stairs, you're acting like a pretentious prig. No one who reads this is impressed. Oh wait I forgot, everyone who disagrees with you is clearly an idiot, right? Let us all defer to Happy Fun Zone's epistemological supremacy. Give me a break.
The Face of The Alphabet So I either make my argument or call you an idiot? Talk about a false dichotomy, considering I articulated exactly why you were an idiot. I dont need any insight into why your mind-bogglingly elementary understanding of art is the stuff of middle-schoolers. Calling it "just stairs" shows that you have no interest in analyzing it beyond spouting something generic, self-defeating, and pathetic.
If a high school student made this it would be called pretentious, but David Lynch does it and it's a masterwork? Reminds me of the story about the art instructor who had students critique a Jackson Pollock painting only to find it was the teachers stained smock. Until they found that out, the work was a masterpiece
Painters also make quick sketches which are often very simple and crude, but they can sell them for huge amounts of money, because they are known to be good painters, and people who buy these sketches cherish them like treasure. It may not be that technically impressive, just a simple sketch, but the sketch becomes valuable because of the person who produced it. This short movie is kind of like a sketch like this. It's very simplistic but still mysterious and beautiful, and it could be a framework for something bigger Lynch did later.
Wow,i first thought its a sketch of stairs...Its just about the dimension of things, their depth and how much everything depends on ones perception or point of view. Its nothing and in the same time very inspiring. Love it!¡
stairs of life ...... Get started going up in our lives we ended up going down with the burden of the past .... ........................ oooooooooo = )
i swear i see people in the shadows.. looked like bunch of people gathered at the town hall but its hard to see cause theres a tree in the way.. i think it might have caught on fire... or are they just stairs to no were.. Can't seem to tell any more... what time is it..?
We'll, interpretation or not is an unusual background with some pretty shadow and music play, what's wrong in just enjoying that? Also, was this meant to play on loop? The shadow at the end did obscure everything.... As for possible explanation (just for fun)....the end of Macbeth? Oh and the shadow of unknown nature casting fear over the squared human construction (stair as a mean to ascend to higher meaning).....yeah, this will do.
in mythology a ladder is a symbol of communication between two worlds the sounds reminded slightly of the wyoming incident did anybody suggest that lynch had anything to do with cia mind control experiments? this would explain a lot
What the hell happened to the David Lynch who made "Eraserhead?" Where did he go? Why does no other Lynch work I try watching have any of the creativity or genuine weirdness as "Eraserhead," and instead feel like a normal person trying really hard to mimic that movie's surrealism?
@@HarryDuBois616 Not yet, though I've seen some clips of "Twin Peaks." I might check it out, but it doesn't have the feel I was looking for after seeing "Eraserhead"
Could be his take on industrialisation as the trees that fall their shadows go upwards. Then, they're replaced by a wall kind of structure hence the final shot being the shadow of trees only seen from behind a shadow of window implying how the concrete jungle has taken over nature. Idk could be something else too.
They're steps into light, but we stare at them with indecision. And with time, the creeping darkness soon covers them and now they're steps to darkness. The lesson: act soon.

"Shadows also climb the stairs. Let me film it" - David lynch
My favorite part was that one part with the stairs.
As a kid, Lynch was traumatized by going down the stairs into the subway. He felt like he was going down into "hell" with its wind & peculiar sounds. There it is, probably.
Lynch made a time-lapse of a set of stairs become a thoroughly disturbing experience with multiple possible interpretations. Magnificent bastard
Lol....Great comment..!!
Some directors spend 4 years trying to write a screenplay, some others experimenting with technology and some others trying to get new ideas. And then it's Lynch....staring at stairs....I love Lynch btw
He always wanted his paintings to move. Well, the stairs as a static 'canvas' ends up 'moving' by capturing the effect of light, shadow and sound.
Yes! You nailed it. Isn't he just the bee's knees? lol!
I swear, Lynch can make anything exciting and thought-provoking
Which makes sense, those things describe human nature decently and Lynch is all about consciousness
7 levels. Reaching the 7th stage of human development involves ego/shadow abandonment.
The sound, the music makes the difference.
nope, it's all in the light
Just like his movies, they are basically feature-length music videos.
LIKE YOU IAM all but none...
i don't care about any interpretation, i just like the way this makes me feel
Nicolás Bugueño very nice, i am agree with you..because your words are explaining the Modern Art: "what the artist want to say and how did you feel" is the double message!
that's what it's all about
Exactly...
That’s the beauty of Lynch’s films. You don’t have to understand any of it in order to love and experience it. It’s all about how it makes you feel and what the film does to you. He’s my favorite filmmaker and I fucking love him.
OK, half way through and I'm already creeped out. David has a way of turning ANYTHING in something terrifying...
Great use of sound.
It's the evolution of the arm.
As Agent Cooper said, “Owls are not what they seem” ...
That buzz at the end almost made me shit myself.
so simple, so beautiful

It's just nice to look at. A moving painting.
David Lynch sempre surpreende.
3 min of stairs. Oscar worthy sound design. Lynched.
This is one beautiful short. So natural yet odd.

context can definitly matter, why wouldnt it
If I saw a student make this I’d think it’s badass

Animated by the sun. Camera locked in one place, clicking off single frames every few seconds.
let the fear wash over you
This unsettled me more than Eraserhead.Brilliant Thanks.
Micheal Bay should remake this
No.
he'd say it needs more explosions
This is the girl.
Nice to call it a fancy term. Typical of when a giant project is being built to mount a camera and have it shoot one frame every minute.
The score is brilliant. They must've tried a dozen different ones.
Actually, quite brilliant!
Amazingly brilliant!!

It won't stand forever.
so the shadows climbed the stairs... they ascend, because that's what stairs are for

Yes, yes, yes.

So, I need a filming location of this short.
Turns out Pink Floyd’s real name is David Lynch

Fantastic!!!
Se puede decir que literalmente David Lynch logró quemar el concreto
God damn brilliant!

Bien hecho David!
staring at stairs.
Город шумно марширует. Всё меняется, или это земля и мы - гости земли... Нарастание шума придаёт жуткое восприятие. Панический страх.

Завидно?
it reminds me of the tape from the ring

I would ended around 50 seconds, I get it, it's clever, imply, don't state it.
That was deep
***** The stairs are not what they seem
***** I saw a tree slowly walk towards the stairs. Look at the tree's growing shadow
