    I’ve had mine for over a year now and it started thriving when I started watering from the bottom. I left it in it’s nursery pot and about every 10ish days I stick it in a cup of 1/4-1/2 water and let it absorb from the bottom. It’s also below an eastern facing window and seems to love the morning light

      Helloo. How many days do you wait to water it again? You dont water the soil from the top at all? sorry english is not my mother tongue

      In my case, I water mine about every 10 days or when the leaves feel a little soft...whichever comes first. If they droop then I know I missed the 10 day limit. It’s best to water this plant from the bottom but not heavily watered or the plant will start to rot and die because the soil is too wet/has too much moisture. This plant needs to dry out within a few days before the next watering.
      Watering from the top may cause the stems to rot as the roots are finer than thread. If you want to water yours from the top, avoid the stem area & lightly water close to the soil edge (between soil and pot).
      I give mine enough water from the bottom (only half the plant gets the water while the top half remains dry). In addition to fish fertilizer, it gets black coffee, black tea & some diluted milk (calcium) as a treat every 2 weeks or so. I hope this helps 🤗

    Hi Nick!
    I have a question/request: could you do like a "guide" for different window sides? Like which plants grow in a nothern faced windows, which in southern faced windows.. I don't know why I seem to struggle with this, so your advice would be really appreciated

      You can use a fertilizer intended for tomatoes, it will contain calcium and magnesium as well as the usual NPK. Replacing the soil has also made a big difference for mine. (I used succulent and cactus mix)

  • @bkrbkrl
    @bkrbkrl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Thanks for this, Nick. My issue was constant deformed leaves and cupping leaves. I found out the cupping is normal until the leaf matures, but mine was a hot mess. I read that the deformities are caused by a lack of nutrients, but then they don't tell you what to give it that would help! I gave up when it ended up with one leaf left. I see pictures online of other people's plants that are large and beautiful and I'm like, how?!

    • @Christodophilus
      @Christodophilus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Try dried and crushed (preferably powdered) egg shells, and sprinkle it on the surface. It releases calcium, which I've read can cause leaf deformations.

    • @Eeveelution08
      @Eeveelution08 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey it’s calcium ! Tomato fertiliser works the best (I’ve heard) but can also use diluted milk (2capfuls for a glass) or a bit of Dolomite lime sprinkled on the soil !

    You pretty much described the slow demise of my peperomia, as winter light started to recede from it's usual place near the window. Even though I doubly reduced recommended times between watering, during winter, the reduced light just meant it sat and sulked in any moisture given. So thanks for explaining the finicky nature of this plant. Mine has died, but I may try again in spring (southern hemisphere).

It has 3 plants in the one pot and just seemed to outgrow it over the last couple months. I have one and he's a happy camper! Growing tons of new leaves, they come out all deformed but eventually unfurl and all is great! it's about 6 feet from a south facing window, used to be on an east-facing windowsill. The leaves are medium sized, and strangely my sister's have massive leaves and it lives in front of a north-facing window. I don't consider it succulent, I will let about an inch of soil dry out and then drench it. I have bad experience with those types of apparently 'succulent' stems that are in fact not succulent at all (read: swedish ivy).

    Hi, Nick, there isn't much guides for Peperomia Peutolata and it's sad to say that mine just died yesterday. I salvaged the leaves though and put it on water but as of this moment, no roots yet and some leaves turned black now. God, I just killed another Peperomia

    It's $20 bucks in Lowes right now and I'm miffed. I want it desperately but not necessarily $20 worth. The ceramic pot they're making you buy with it adds to the price point. Grrrrrrr. I'm literally watching this to help me decide if I'm going back tomorrow to get it.

      i was lucky enough to get it for $10 from the discount section bc some of its leafs were turning brown/falling but part of it looks good and has new baby leaves, i’m hoping mine does good

    I’m curious about the thrips you have in your home, where do they come from? I had a mealy bug infestation that came out of nowhere and only on one plant.

    Hello there. Just picked up a sad looking Peperomia from the store. There’s some leaves that are split and brown on the edges. Should I clip them out and if so, should I clip them at the base?

    I have had my watermelon peperomia for almost a year now. When it first arrived, all leaves looked perfectly round like yours. But all new leaves since arrival grew like "little cups." Mine sits on a north facing window sill. I don't water unless it is completely dry which usually takes about two weeks after I water it thoroughly. I also fertilize it on a regular basis, once per month during growing season. I have tried both organic and lab produced liquid fertilizers, and neither made any difference.... What am I doing wrong?! Any help would be really appreciated.

      I would not let it dry out completely, so the leaves hold enough water.

    use beneficial insects for the thrips. do your watermelon peps have that mesh sock around the roots?

    Question since you have three of these, although I would apply this to many of the peperomias, do you find that the amount of light has an impact on the length of the petioles and the compactness of the plant?

    I ended up with 3 of these all in separate nursery pots. I wanted to put them all together. Now I question doing that. I had one I got semi bare rooted and it just slowly died on me. I am going to leave them be separate and display them in different locations.

    I bought one and it had a bunch of brown behind their leaves. I bought it to save, I just cut the best leaf and started to prop.

    When it gets droopy and soil is dry I water it. Then it perks up all happy. Then it starts losing leaves. What must one do to make it happy and alive? This is what I noticed about this plant.

    Do you bottom water your peperomia? When i first started collecting plants I fell in love with peps and bought a ton, killed them all. Im more experienced now and have a few ripple and watermelons and they are doing well but i always feel im one drop away from root rot. Lol. Wondering if bottom watering might help.

      T i bottom water mine! way healthier than it was when i was top watering. the plant stops pulling up water when it’s done- helps to prevent stem and root rot

    I have a question, so I bought one a week or two ago and my dog tripped it on the floor and it has some small slits on the leafs and I don't know if it will survive, does this happened to anyone and plant survived??

    I just bought a watermelon pepperomia but it doesn’t look quite like this, the leaves aren’t as rounded and there’s no red stem. The leaves fold. Are there different types or was my plant mislabeled?

    Hi Nick! I have a question regarding semi-succulent Peperomias in general. All of mine (Obtusifolias and Argyrea) are starting to grow deform leaves and I'm struggling to find out why... Do have any tips? Thanks a lot and great video as always :)

    Well well this “costa rica“ . . Mine got huge leaves some almost as big as my hand. . Had these cups. . Fed her with calcium. . Sw window,light seems to fit. . She grows lots of leafes now, 80 percent dark green with hard structure. . I dont know if the calcium made her revert, no more cups but i wanted a watermelon. . 🙈
    This plant challenges me. . .i do think its maybe a strange hybrid 😵 thats acting weird 🤔???

      Egg shells. Boil them first for about 20mins, I think. When cool down, grind them up until dust. Put it in the soil as you would fresh/used coffee grounds/tea bag.
