I’m a rookie hotshot hauler as well. I like how you are not afraid to learn in front of the world. Don’t let the “know it all’s”change your channel. Stay real that’s what people like about your channel. My Big Tex came with a sliding ratchet rail so I put 10 4 inch straps then I bought 8 two inch. Then some chains and binders. Good luck !
strap to rub rail, the steak pockets have other uses. the nuts go on the bolts first, once the bolts are tightened then tighten the nut as (jam nut) to keep bolts from backing out. might get yourself some edge protectors to protect both cargo and straps. good luck and stay safe
Not a hot shorter, but we haul equipment everyday. The entire rail is safe to use your straps on. Boomer and ratchets on ditch side in case the come loose and undone. Doing great brother. Keep it up!
If you would, look up a free video on proper load securement. Basically try to shoot for 1 strap for every 10ft of trailer length. But you must have a min of 2 straps per cargo or youll be pulled over. The straps also must be able to hold at least a little over the combined weight of the cargo its securing IE securing a generator, needs at min 2 straps with a load rating combined to equal more then the weight of the generator they are securing (I could be off of course, but I do know you need at least 2 straps min per unit of cargo or youll be in violation). But yeah, watch a video on proper load securement, you need to use the chains just right or youll be in violation if you get pulled over an inspected (yeah load securement can get you in trouble). Be safe out there man! Also, im going to an academy to get my CDL, wish me luck!
you would be amazed how much of that stuff with vibrate loose then it falls off and you run over your winch and strap and lose them both. plus you risk hitting another vehicle or ruining a tire . just use the hook on your strap and dont bother with the winches unless you need something really tight. also bring your strap up thru the bottom between the frame and the pocket guard. that way if it comes loose you dont have the strap fall off the rail.
Just bought trailer 1 hour ago and looking at your video now..thanks for video been searching all over you tube for this kind of video to install mounts
New sub...cvd nine teen may force me out of my career, looking at hotshotting. Your vids are a good source of what I need to see at this point. Good luck on your journey!
Those spindles do not have to line up over those areas. Those areas are for 2x4's. It is actually better that it don't, so that you can pull it thru, and then hook it. You only have to have a strap every 4 ft per DOT. So technically you only need 8 straps on that trailer. Of course you will always need extra because every load is unique and is not going to fit perfect on the trailer. Also make sure you buy a good winch bar.
@@drill4408 you dont really need a impact gun, just a breaker bar and a torque wrench. Reality is you WILL get flats so keep a spare wheel on your rig. It will save you alot of time and money. Or atleast carry a tire plug kit and small air compressor

Chris, the pockets are for 2x4 to add sides to your trailer, that is why they are less than 4". The strap wench is for between the pockets and allows you to move and adjust to the load if needed.
Straps, chains, binders and corner protectors I got off mytee and the heavy duty tarps I got off Amazon. Compared pricing and tarp on as $60 cheaper off Amazon
I know you’re not gonna stop the persistent thief but I had to have a bit of a chuckle with your lock system your chain even though it looks funny its better than that other thing because you just remove those 2 bolts & the pin and replace it with another one and away you go where at least your chain takes a little bit of effort to remove I’d also wrap some chains and lock in between the wheels like to say the persistent thief always get around it but it’s a bit more difficult All the best on your new journey in life
Those rail boxes are use for your chains when you have to chain something down and your wretched don't have to be right under those rail boxes you can slide them wherever you need them if your straps don't have any wretched on them and also you don't want to leave your straps on trailer because people will steal them
I have 4” straps along my winch bro. They aren’t supposed to go thru there. Just strap through the rail. And “Everything tie down”. They have everything you need for hotshot/flatbed
DO NOT put all your ratchets on one side of the tailier. You do both sides, to better secure the load and keep the load centered. If you secure all the straps on one side it is very dangerous.
All the flat beds ive run have the cranks on one side of the trailer.....the cranks even come all welded on from the factory that way. I was also taught in my cdl/heavy equipment courses to always do driver side for the ratchets so you can see if they pop open, same with binders.

I brought the same strap holders from Amazon it doesn’t work well, it’s best to get someone to weld the sliding rail with strap holders that moves like on the semi flatbed trailers
You should get some experience on hotshot change to cdl class a owner operator with flatbed trailer better loads much better rate per mile .. before you tare up your pickup truck and some value left in it … a semi truck used is about the same price as a pick up truck but will last twice as long and you will earn lots more than hotshot work .. 👌

So expedite van, box truck, hotshot, then semi. The most labor intensive by far it seems is hotshot (and flatbed semi). Might be worth looking into to just do box truck yourself and leave the heavy lifting to a driver?
To be honest, best money and least amount of work is hauling bulk end dump. 42ft trailers so super easy to park and maneuver and you can haul ass and not worry about loads shifting or getting damaged. Also we're always loaded to the max allowable weight so its alot safer in the winter time.
Out of curiosity are you trying to run NON CDL hot shot. I know most states require you to have a CDL to haul a trailer over 10,000. I know in nevada my dot buddy loves seeing hotshots rule threw elko. I know georgia is the same. Any trailer over 10k you need a CDL. If you have one cool and I assume you just don't want to deal with the extra BS with insurance and reg. To up your weight. Good luck to you. I been flat bedding for over 10 years and love it. Was actually thinking of putting my dually to work doing HS and that's how I came across your channel. Also think about getting some stake pocket portable winches. Just like 2 or 3 to have. That way you can move them around wherever you have a stake pocket and you can go down to a 3 inch strap. You don't need 4" for what your doing. They work just the same and should hook threw the stake pocket on the opposite side.
I know its a lot of work to do so but you should mount the strap binders the other direction so you are pulling up when tightening with the bar instead of pushing down. If that bar slips and hits you in the face teeth will be on the ground.
Shoot I'd love to drive the box/strait truck brother I hv a clean driving record and plenty of windshield time in a box truck. Hey Chris, I noticed at 25:10 when you tightened the locking nut, the other nut backed of slightly. I would use two wrenches to tighten the lock nuts.

Check the securement laws with the fmcsa. The rating of each strap and binder must high enough for the weight of the load. And dot will check.
I use 4’ straps time to time. You can hook them just using the rails.

Those are stake pockets that you put 2x4" wood in, to help secure pipe loads. DO NOT run any straps through those holes on the rail.
Chris , use portable stake pocket winches . Buy 2” and 4” winches . The 2” winches will be very handy from Brophy Machine .
