Cheetahs Meowing like Kitty Cats at Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch, New Zealand

  • The cheetahs were in this area before the keeper let them loose to a chase a lure down a 180 metre long paddock, generally in under 13 seconds. The cheetah chase is designed to simulate a hunt and extends their natural behaviour. Unlike other cats, cheetah's claws are non--retractable and act like spikes on running shoes to give them traction in the chase.

Incidentally the cheeta population is so small that many of the animals have developed side effects from inbreeding. They need to selectively breed them to get a healthy stock for release.

At least feel safe thinking that your odds of this happening are near impossible since there has never been a single reported attacks on humans as cheetah see us as big things that could fight back (and because the adaptations that made them such fast runners also made them unable to risk taking a fight as they lack the strength required to take down their opponents and their bones are too light to take hits back) thus they avoid us. So rest assured, basically no risk from cheetah .......... But be wary whenever you pass under a tree during your hiking, you never know which tree hides a leopard ready to pounce

Fun fact cheetahs have never been recorded to have killed a human and the only time they'd attack you is if it's a pregnant cheetah or mother protecting Cubs otherwise totally safe, ancient eqyptians actually domesticated and trained them as hunting companions and they get along fantastic with dogs, which is why solitary cheetahs get paired with a dog to help calm them (very high strung anxious animals) and to have someone to play with.

Cheetas like our domestic cats purr and 'meow' too. I met someone who lived in SA and adopted a cheeta who became so close to humans they decided to let it live on their enclosed land and would visit their adopted family who would now and then feed and water it. They can live for a good 18+ years when properly looked after.
