As a Latina I can tell you that as long as you cook at home and buy REAL food, meaning vegetables, meats, grains and fruits- nothing processed or premade, you can make a lot of quality food with large portions at a low cost. The trick is actually learning how to cook and eat properly. Limiting the meats can help the budget but grains , which are not only black beans, can go a long way and are nutritious and dense. Lentils, chickpeas, white beans, black beans, red beans, split peas. You can substitute while rice for brown or quinoa which are more more fulfilling than white.
The two biggest things about homemade food is the time it takes to cook and portion size. It is a lot of thinking vs. just buying food on the go and buying it cheaper. Really, to make it through a day, you need fiber and protein with some vegetables to absorb some of the acid of the protein (which leads to gout). Fast food does not have fiber.

Yes you can buy bone in chicken. Super cheap, super delicious. Make 4 thighs with skin and bone in the air fryer with the chicken/roast/🐔 setting with lemon pepper seasoning and some MSG. Microwave potatoes for 5-10 mins depending on your microwave. Then get a microwaveable steamed veggies bag. That’s like $46 meal for 2 right there, for less than $10. You can thank me later. Pro tip: if you want to go super luxury go to your local Mexican bakery and buy some bolillos slice in half and have yourself a torta add cheese and toppings.
Food banks can usually do a lot more by donating money rather than food items. They can buy good quality and fresh items in bulk at much lower prices than you can buy your nearly expired canned items, and it reduces the amount of work and expense needed to manage their food inventory. If you want to help your community through your local food bank donate money.

I'm glad you clarified. I didn't know it was a metaphor. I'm autistic (literally), so that doesn't help. But also, I knew rice and beans provide all 9 proteins that our body needs and has to get from food. I also knew they were super cheap, and that vegetables and fruit add up quick. I was honeslty surprised thinking, "Wow, does Dave actually believe so many people can handle the food fatigue of just having beans and rice, and do they actually have energy and not get sick often from the lack of vegetables? Well, he says he did it, and he keeps talking about others who did and recommending it, so I guess so. It IS just temporary... But would it work for me? Nooo... Does it work for most people?? Wow! I'm more different than most people than I thought!"
I think this one flew past Dave. The man was using Dave's philosophy of 'rice and beans' literally to help teach the poor people that they should have these minimum things to escape their poverty. This is Dave's philosophy, work hard, and get out of poverty. How many times has he told people to get a better job or move somewhere to get more money? Now Dave is upset with someone working out his philosophy?

I am from the UK so don't think I would be allowed to call the show but I had a good question for you. I bought my first home 8 months ago, following all of the rules that Ramsey lay out, I have no other debts but the mortgage on the home. I intend to buy a home later in my lift (4-6 years time) which will be my final home, hopefully, and rent this one out. In the UK we can have interest only mortgages where we can pay a much smaller sum and pay off capital ad hock. I wanted someone's view on whether I should try and pay off the mortgage on this property between now and then, or as much as possible, or set myself up for a larger deposit on the final home. I would suspect that if I did the former I would be in the 1st property longer and would end up not being able to save as much for the final home I intend to buy in my early 30s. Would be great to hear some thoughts on that.

I mean, if he were intelligent, he would know that with a huge following, you do not say what you mean because there is huge liability behind it.
Bone-in chicken thighs are one of the best food deals out there.
Beans and rice and vegetables actually saves a ton of money and will reduce healthcare costs as you age.
The related question is how much should people in steps 1 or 2 donate.
The viewer is obviously the same type of person who reposts videos and images on social media not knowing they're fake or cgi.
Thanks for clarifying the “beans and rice”😂 I bargain shop my grocery stores for marked down meats lol
Cajun Beans and Rice is an excellent economical meal (add fresh baked crusty bread)!
Ask any Cajun or those who live along the Mississippi River for a recipe.
Suggestion here: SINCE callers aren't "getting" the analogy, simply say something like: stick with generic and store brands, no eating out.. period, no morning "coffee stops" (George's favorite ax to grind, haha), or something similar. In other words, update your vocabulary to a less confusing metaphor..?
He doesn't have time to do that 100x a day on his show
I agree, I think a lot of us neurodivergent people take things really literally. I would’ve thought he was being serious
@@larrybud While you're right in one sense, a SIMPLE change could prevent confusion. Try getting away with something repeatedly misunderstood.. to your own company's customers.. Dare ya..
We're talking about Americans here. That would confuse them MORE. Americans are incapable of understanding phrases like "generic" or "store brand".
*Spreadsheets are your friend.* Where I live, Walmart brown rice, lentils, 12 fl oz whole milk and a Tyson chicken patty only costs $1.17 per serving. Walmart rolled oats, butter, blueberries and 12 oz milk costs just $1.13 per serving.
A extreme low budget cookbook with daves name on it would sell hot dog chili and tatertot casserole is a staple cheap meal lol
Seriously Seriously it would be a #1 book. And truth be told might teach someone like this😂
😂😂😂 I can’t believe people took it literally- people don’t know how to shop and prep and don’t use TH-cam to learn 😂😂❤❤
Caller: Can we have something other than beans and rice?
Me: Yes. Potatoes! LOL
Nothing wrong with beans or rice.
I ate keto, only red meat, for years. I adore beans and rice!
I never even considered whether or not it was a metaphor. Just figured it could be taken literally or not on a case by case basis.
Frijolitos de la olla, literally: Newly-cooked beans, and if they're pinto they're more SCRUMPTIOUS! As for sopa de arroz(rice) con jitomate, nothing tastier than slicing a banana on top and ladling on your favorite stone ground salsa, red or green. 😋
You can also eat pasta.
Thank God I found this video today...I was about to say only beans & rice this week...but it's a metaphor, hamburger helper here we come
I love beans and rice!
You know it's been my experience that the food that requires work to make is the most passed over at the food bank.
Really? Like what?
@@PrimateProductions Specifically, the Rice and the dried beans, canned veggies, lentils and your basic ingredient items. Either they don't want to put in the work or they have no idea how to cook.
@@8RedBear5 I don't think anyone is desperate for lentils or canned veggies. especially lentils. just not an American thing
Some who go to the food bank don't know what to do with items they aren't familiar with. And some have very limited ways to cook.
Rice and beans are good...like mine with chicken, shredded cheese, sour cream and lettuce.
Mexican or Cajun you can't go wrong!
If you get tired of beans and rice, you can always switch it up a bit to rice and beans. Just eat it and quit yer whinin!!!!!
I can eat beans everyday:
Charro beans
Enfrijoladas
Tostadas
Tacos (fried)
Sopes
Refried beans and eggs.
Bean burritos
Refried beans and chorizo.
Nachos
All that can be done with beans. And I haven't listed my rice menu 😂😂
Beans n rice are good with chicken....
Beans and rice means to eat inexpensive, not to stop eating tuna
I love rice and beans especially beans over rice yum 😋
Actually, having a Dave Ramsey budget meals cookbook would be a helpful tool to have in one's arsenal. That should be a thing...
I’m writing the cookbook y'all! Hang tight
People got into debt and now their children grew up on only rice and beans😅
I can see dave opening a restraunt, youd never have to ask what todays special is😂
I think this one flew past Dave.
My go to rice and beans recipe is Chickpea curry! Literally rice, “beans” and spices 🤫
…and cheap as it gets!
I quit home Internet, my gym membership, I never eat out, and my car has 205,000 miles on it, but I eat a "keto/carnivore" diet...and splurge on ribeye steak when it's on sale for $8.99 a lb... I think I would rather live in a one room apartment than give up this diet!
What if you took the same dollar value you spent on the "nicer" food and bought cheaper food so you could donate more of it?
I'm a die hard Ramsey fan. I have been for 15 years. This is my favorite video. PLEASE MAKE A COOKBOOK.
I also, I practically did eat beans and rice for about 5 years (maybe every third day for five years .... Going out to eat on occasion for events) and am able to NOT any more. And it feels good LOL
Beef Pasta Hamburger Helper is a weekly meal in this house!
Do you make your own with pantry spices and pasta or buy the actual boxed Helper?
I've liked the beef stroganoff and cheeseburger hamburger helpers since I was a kid!
I feel like this inquiry is an absolutely fair position….imo it’s got nothing to do with not being generous.
You wouldn’t give away steak and lobster….
eggs and bean yummy and some rice. im eating that now eventhough my income allows us to eat whatever we want.
ARE YOU SERIOUS it was a joke this whole time?! After done bought a whole bunch I got Black Beans.Black-Eyed PeasCannellini Beans,Chickpeas,Great Northern BeansKidney Beans. ..Lima Beans. ...Pinto Beans
Good job, great assortment!
Classic is hearing Dave say Rice & Beans and Beans & Rice in the same sentence once in a while. I did ask Dave on his facebook page if he could share some Rice and Beans recipes. I have yet to hear a response.
