Ato Eyasu Bede-mariam tells us about himself and the lives of other natives of Welkait who settled in Addis Ababa. The elites of the region of Welkait or Welkait-Tegede began to settle in Addis Ababa right from the time the city was founded by Emperor Menelik II and by his most celebrated wife Empress Taytu Bitul. Most of them held prominent positions under the tutelage of Etege Taitu. She granted her favors to them not only because they were her own Gonderine townsmen, but also because of a more subtle political calculation. The second wave of Welkaites moved to Addis Ababa during the reign of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I in need of higher education and better employment opportunities within the modern Ethiopian bureaucracy. Mr. Eyasu Bedemariam sheds some light on the experiences of both generations that left their remote homes to make New Flower their new home.

ትግራይና በጌምድር ትግራይና ወሎ በከፊልም ሆነ በሞላ መሰረቱም ምኑም ኣንድ ስለ ሆነ "ስሜን" ተብሎ ወይም በሆነ መንገድ ተደራጅቶ ኣንድ ኣስተዳደር ቢሆን ግድ የለኝም:: "በመጠቅለል" በርስት ብሎ ነገር ከሆነ ግን ጉዳዩ የተገላቢጦሽ ነው:: በ1940ዎቹ ላስተዳደር ኣመችነትና ለመስፍነ ወሎ ልዑል ኣስፋ ወሰን ሹመት ተብሎ ወደ በጌምድርና ወሎ የተወሰደው በ1983 ከፊልም መልሶ ወደ ትግራይ የተካለለው ትግርኛ ተናጋሪው ወልቃይትና ራያ የሚረሸነውን ረሽኖ 1.2 ሚልዮን ህዝብ ወደ መካከለኛው ትግራይ ኣፈናቅሎ 70ሺ ወደ ሱዳን ስደት ዳርጎ እውን የጎረቤት ክልል ቢልዮነርና ባለ ስልጣን የሰዎችን ደምና ህይወት በሰሊጥ ለውጦ በሰላም ይኖርበታል? የቱ የወልቃይት ህዝብና መንደር ነው ኣማርኛ ስያሜ ያለው? ወንድም ወንድሙን ገድሎ መሬት ነጠቃ የትም ኣታደርስም!! በነገራችን ላይ ወልቃይት ስሜን ወደ በጌምድር ክተወሰደ በኋላ ኣንድ ላይ "በጌምድር እና ስሜን" ተብሎ ተሰየመ:: ቆይቶም በዋና ከተማው "ጎንደር" ተባለ:: ይኸው ነው ያጭር ጊዜ ታሪኩ!!
