I went "Star Trek" with mine on the sofa end table, and changed the "wake word" from "Alexa" to "Computer"... now, I can't watch Star Trek episodes.... it picks up crew members loud and clear (but doesn't understand the 24th century request much) They need more refined owner voice recognition software... ;-P

Over the holidays when we had guests we were able to use the intercom (drop-in feature) to speak with one another from room to room. We have our music set up. I can’t wait to try other options.

In a way yes. It does not have alerts like a security camera but you can Drop In from your phone at any time and see what is going on in the room and talk to those people or pets that are there.
@@TechWithBrett can you 'drop in' on individual devices within your own home like broadcast? Again my issue would be how to stop people dropping in on me without my knowing.

I'd like to know if I can use the drop in option to check on my dogs when nobody's home? I did buy a blink security system, but it's clips are to short & it's easy for my dogs to knock over.
@20:25, yeah we can see the mike (to turn the voice on or off) but what about the noise (I have the background coming through the speaker), how do you turn that on or off, do we only have the volume button for that as that's not good.
If you go under clock backgrounds, example, the beach picture, above that is a pen and a check button. Click the pen, and there are many more photography backgrounds. You can do this with all backgrounds. Like there are more colors of the strips background, more designs under the playful backgrounds. There are so many more options than what is shown in this video. I was suprised by the amount of options.
Hi Brett, prefect time you have this video. I just got a Echo Show 5 on Prime Day. I am from Canada. When I go to the "Home Content" screen. I don't have the "Weather Forecast" option for me to choose. That is one of the main reason I get the Echo Show 5. I can see the weather on my way out for work without asking Alexa. Do you know any reason why? Or can you suggest me where I can get support for device from Amazon? Thank you.

I have 2 and both are responding to alarm clock commands in the morning. How can I fix this without changing the Alexa wake word? They are his and hers acting as alarm clocks on opposite sides of the bed.
Already just started and when I say "customize my clock" my echo 5 says "hmm that is not supported by this device". It seems to NOT understand my voice. HOW do I improve the ability to understand me? And are all my swear words back to it recorded!

Hey Brett. As usual great video. Do you regularly use both ecosystems (meaning Google & Amazon) or do you prefer one over the other? I already own a Google Home mini but just bought an Echo Dot to check it out.
I have slowly been using Alexa devices more just so I can know both sides of the story. Google Assistant is definitely my go to assistant but Amazon has some awesome features like Drop In on specific devices that you can't currently get with Google Products. Hoping to have a Smart Assistant battle video up one day to explain more.
You can browse any website . Tell alexa to open silk or firefox and you can also tell her what your looking for in the store and it takes you straight to it
I bought two of these, one for my parents and one for me (I live next door) just to pair with the Ring doorbell I bought them. I had no idea it could do so much; they were only $45! This is going to work great so I can check in on my 97 year old great-aunt just by using the Echo.

Great video! Question.... what's the USB port for on the back? I still can't figure out why they've never added a charging port there like my Google Home has. That's the only reason I haven't bought one of these yet!
They usually are only for service ports. Someone said they did get the Echo Show 5 to work with an Ethernet adapter but that is not officially supported.
Hey, something that might interest you. A couple of days ago my Amazon account was closed with no warning for after hours of wasted time they're telling me it's for excessive returns which I think is an error but that's beside the point. When they closed my Amazon account all my Amazon devices that I own for years primarily all my Echo devices stopped working. I lost access to the Amazon Photos and Prime Video which I pay for. So apparently the devices you already own are subject to be disabled by Amazon on your perceived shopping habits! I assume the same applies to all other Amazon devices and services like fire OS tablets, Ring cameras, and probably AWS as well. Just wanted to make other people aware of this because they definitely don't tell you this when you buy your hardware and services.
The fighting between google and amazon holds back smart advancements. Google doesn't allow you to hot word 'Alexa' on an android. The video calling on both smart displays is pretty useless unless your friends and family either all use Google Duo or use Echo devices.

Not directly. The bulbs would need to connect to your WiFi or another hub in the home.

Hey I'm from Canada too and I've noticed the same problem. It seems that the Canadian version has a bunch of restrictions in place for some reason. I've left a wordy review on their order page as I feel I was jipped some.

The reson you don’t watch it on silk is because you can get to TH-cam and Hulu but Hulu and Netflix will just show you the shows not play them

You can also make video calls from the Alexa application on your smartphone to your device or any one that you can echo call.

Finally decided just to commit to Alexa got the 3rd gen spot and the show 5 on sale last night and super happy.
Only thing it's missing is the ability to make actual calls in Australia
I have 2 and both are responding to alarm clock commands in the morning. How can I fix this without changing the Alexa wake word? They are his and hers acting as alarm clocks on opposite sides of the bed.
Already just started and when I say "customize my clock" my echo 5 says "hmm that is not supported by this device". It seems to NOT understand my voice. HOW do I improve the ability to understand me? And are all my swear words back to it recorded!

Hey Brett. As usual great video. Do you regularly use both ecosystems (meaning Google & Amazon) or do you prefer one over the other? I already own a Google Home mini but just bought an Echo Dot to check it out.
I have slowly been using Alexa devices more just so I can know both sides of the story. Google Assistant is definitely my go to assistant but Amazon has some awesome features like Drop In on specific devices that you can't currently get with Google Products. Hoping to have a Smart Assistant battle video up one day to explain more.

You can browse any website . Tell alexa to open silk or firefox and you can also tell her what your looking for in the store and it takes you straight to it

I bought two of these, one for my parents and one for me (I live next door) just to pair with the Ring doorbell I bought them. I had no idea it could do so much; they were only $45! This is going to work great so I can check in on my 97 year old great-aunt just by using the Echo.

Brett. Great video. I ordered the Show 5 during Amazon's Prime Day, but after watching your video, I'm sorry I didn't order another. I do have a question. If you have an Echo Connect on your landline, can you get the Echo Show 5 to display the caller ID for incoming calls?
There is very little info about this online. All I can find is it says Alexa will announce the contact when receiving a call. I'll keep looking.
The echo show 5 with the amazing display and the mediatek processor is a such a great idea for a gift

They usually are only for service ports. Someone said they did get the Echo Show 5 to work with an Ethernet adapter but that is not officially supported.

Hey, something that might interest you. A couple of days ago my Amazon account was closed with no warning for after hours of wasted time they're telling me it's for excessive returns which I think is an error but that's beside the point. When they closed my Amazon account all my Amazon devices that I own for years primarily all my Echo devices stopped working. I lost access to the Amazon Photos and Prime Video which I pay for. So apparently the devices you already own are subject to be disabled by Amazon on your perceived shopping habits! I assume the same applies to all other Amazon devices and services like fire OS tablets, Ring cameras, and probably AWS as well. Just wanted to make other people aware of this because they definitely don't tell you this when you buy your hardware and services.

The fighting between google and amazon holds back smart advancements. Google doesn't allow you to hot word 'Alexa' on an android. The video calling on both smart displays is pretty useless unless your friends and family either all use Google Duo or use Echo devices.
