    Bill Evans (1929~1980 USA)
Jerry Wald, Dick Garcia, Lucy Reed
Scott LaFaro(베이스), Paul Motian(드럼)과 함께 트리오를 결성하여
Portrait in Jazz
Portrait in Jazz', 'Explorations',
'Sunday at the Village Vanguard', 'Waltz for Debby'
Chuck Israels '62~65,
Gary Peacock '63, Eddie Gomez '66~67, Marc Johnson '78~80,
Paul Motian '59~62, Larry Bunker '63~65, Philly Joe Jones '67,
Jack DeJohnette '68, Marty Morel '69~'75, Eliot Zigmund '75~'78,
    Joe La Barber, '79~'80

I like jazz with a lot to catch up on and remiss about my unfamiliarity with Bill Evans. This great-sounding/looking compilation allows me to play catchup, like Bill Evans 101. Somebody told you I'm a sucker for falling snowflakes.

Probably the most familiar of Bill's many recordings and contributions is his piano on (most of) Miles Davis's "Kind Of Blue" album from 1959---many people's pick for the best Jazz album ever. (The reason I said "most of" is that Wynton Kelly plays on one song, "Freddy Freeloader". The piano throughout the rest of the album is Bill, and he played a large role in composing "Blue In Green" and "Flamenco Sketches" from that album.)

Bill Evans’ sense of tempo and rhythm are unsurpassed, as are his selection of music and great gift of improvisation

The first comment I see is that. I came on here to say I have a good jazz collection -- 31 Miles Davis albums make up 2GB of my 20GB jazz collection -- but only one Bill Evans album I'm not even familiar with. I think TH-cam makes things sound better because this music and sound quality are outstanding and I will be distracted from my regular stuff for the duration of this thoughtful compilation. TH-cam is so good-stuff loaded it feels like a reward for still being around (66 going on 20 apparently) and healthy. My life is better in terms of cooking, eating, general health, exercise/fitness and absolutely MUSIC. It's ALL here. My jazz findings get progressively more overwhelming. My eyes watered instantaneously when I found that 1964 Charles Mingus Oslo post and I don't cry and didn't even realize I liked jazz that much. Seeing him clean-cut, the unfamiliar venue, the look of the broadcast, all of it is surreal in the best way in addition to the performance itself. It felt like history. That was a defining moment in my jazz appreciation a month or two ago. That PBS broadcast of "Birth Of The Cool" is another. Watching that Mingus video was and is like a dream, as are many of these great jazz music posts and obviously this one. You gotta get our attention immediately on TH-cam and this does that and keeps it. This music makes me feel smart and sophisticated. I lived in SF, LA and NYC and now live in a log home on several acres in the middle of the woods on a mountain in a rural area. Listening to jazz feels different here and not in a rush. I'm looking at the other compilations these guys did.

@@dpw181 Appreciate your post. At first I was thiking the OG post "Only those in the know appreciate Bill" was a bit overstated. I know that Bill Evans compositions are appreciated and held in the highest regard, played by jazz players from the day they start to study jazz. I am that jazz student, now 50 years old, but still studying these greats. Bill Evans was also one of the most masterful performers, was very photogenic, which cant be said of all the players in these recordings, but they all can perform. Finally,, listening to this recording in my urban basement apartment, helps drown out rumbles of large vehicles pass by makes this music seem like its real and live as people call out to eachother on the street, so can help you lose focus on the clutter in life getting swept up in a finely woven smoothly created melody.
