Incredibly beautiful. Another example of Mr. Hamelin combining his intelligence, musicality and instrumental mastery to produce a performance that I don't think can be surpassed.
We're told there's never perfection in art. Well, this is just so beautiful - if it isn't perfect, it's definitely not Mr Hamelin's fault!

It was a huge concert. He also played 2 encores: his own lullaby for the left hand and Debussy's Fireworks.
The Y broadcast the first half and the 2 encores as part of a WNYC radio series last year. Not sure if they're still available, but a Google search might yield something...
Mr Mamelin has captured the piece exactly, beautiful playing. I am now going to learn this piece even if it takes me the rest of my life.
I've just got myself liszt's 2nd year of pilgramage from amazon. I'll let you know if I get to play this piece someday. It's is one of my favorite, along with canzonetta del salvator rosa. Happy holidays! :)
6 years later: did you manage to learn it? It's manageable in difficulty, as are most of the pieces in the 2nd Années de Pilgrimage (except for the Dante Fantasia!)

I don’t understaaaand! All the versions I hear are like this, but in my piano sheet there is a part (the sixth compass or however it is said in English) in which the chords are 5 notes played as arpegiatto, and then in the eighth compass there is a passage which goes through like through three octaves and finishes with a trino. And then, when the main theme starts, it isn’t chords as in here, but 6 notes arpegiattos
Liszt made two versions of the piano solo arrangement of the Petrarca Sonnets - you have the first version, but everyone plays the second version. So there is nothing wrong with your sheet music and nothing wrong with Hamelin. :) You just have different versions by Liszt.
