My wife grew up with Ronnie. They're really close friends to this day. She verifies everything he said. She remembers everything from choir, the house in Bellwood, Q's Pizza, his first bands (Drama!) up to the last day as a cover band singer. We see him every chance we get when he's nearby, and he always says hi. The albums he appears on are absolutely fantastic. He's helped take Kansas out to another fork in the road, and it's been great seeing it happen. We wish him continued success. Thanks for posting. 🤘
Saw them in NC this past week....Ronnie really did a great job! That whole band is to be reckoned with. One of the best concerts I ve ever been to...Sure only one original member present, but the ones they hired to Carry the torch, omg
Such a cool guy. He’s doing an amazing job filling Steve Walsh’s shoes. I’ve seen them live and it’s a beautiful experience. He’s a fantastic singer. So glad he’s in KANSAS.
Brad Delp may have been the best true rock and roll vocalist ever. Perry is gold, but he’s also more pop. Delp is just magic. That was God given talent.
I saw a performance of "The Pinnacle" with Ronnie on vocals and honestly, he did it justice!. It's not easy to sing this song live, because of the dramatic charge it carries and Steve Walsh's vocals are stellar, it's hard to reach the C6 of this song, but Ronnie just singing this one earned my sincere praise! I watched a performance of this song last year and I was happy with the performance of this classic (which is my favorite from the Masque album)! Ronnie has a beautiful tone and fits into Steve's repertoire! Ronnie didn't make the C6 from "The Pinnacle" but that doesn't matter to me, he sang a classic, only that deserves respect. And recognition. IT'S NOT EASY TO SING STEVE'S REPERTOIRE. But, Ronnie has his worth
I lost my son in 2008...I could NOT listen to carry on wayward son or dust in the wind for a good six years after. But I love Kansas... and the songs are great. They just hit too deep. 😢 Music touches us like nothing else...doesn't it.
Sept 2, 2016 saw Kansas in San Antonio, Texas.. They put their hearts out on the stage. Excellent sound, beautiful performance. Walked out feeling great.
Among the times i've seen kansas live, I got to see them front row on Long Island in NY twice. In small venues.. Once with Steve and once with Ronnie. The show with steve was at westbury music fair. Phil's rody had his sticks set up on a table right in front of me. Before the show, I asked where I could buy them. He told me online and some music stores. After they played their first 3 songs, Phil needed new sticks. And his rody handed me the sticks he started the show with🤗 Which he signed for me after the show.👍 The second front row at the Paramount. My daughter had bought me the tickets for my birthday. Strangely we were The only ones in the front row.. and Ronnie was literally singing right to us.. One of the best shows ever🤗👍2019. We moved to Georgia, and we'll be seeing them here in Evans In november.. Can't wait..
Great interview...great channel.... Shout out to John Elfante.... vinyl confessions is one of my favorite albums....not necessarily among Kansas albums.... Just a great 80s album, came out amongst Robert Plant, Phil Collins, Daltrey, Winwood.... That 80s shift that perhaps was difficult and different at the time.... Arc of A Diver, Pictures at Eleven, Under a Raging Moon, Face Value, Ready Or Not, Street Talk.....etc Anyone remember Flat Out.???? By Buck Dharma (BOC).... Or Cut Loose, Paul Rodgets Or Tommy Shaw... No Such Thing... Incredible.!!! That 80s shift ya know
Great interview John👍🏼❤️ So fun to hear an established R-N-R singer who grew up loving the same bands that you and I loved!!! And Ronnie is a fan of these bands👌❤️
We saw Kansas last night at the Venue in Lincoln, CA and it was great! ❤ Ronnie and the rest of the band sounded so good, we loved the show and are already planning to see them again!
I saw Journey on their first tour with Steve Perry. The opener was Van Halen and the middle group was Montrose. The liner notes for the tour said Perry took 12 years of voice lessons. He just never strained to reach a note. I grew tired of Perry over time, but Walsh and Brad Delp were two of the best vocalists I ever heard. And I absolutely love Kansas....
Brad Delp (RIP)....buf if you compare the soul, the depth of Steve Walsh ( or even Robby Steinhardt of Kansas )....Watch Brad Delp in concert.....kinda, just not comparable. Best to all of them yet stilll......
I love all the bands and singers mentioned - but the two singers I have never heard ANYONE sound like are Geddy Lee and MeatLoaf. You might not believe it if you have only heard Paradise but Check out Meat's "For Crying Out Loud". My high school music teacher thought it was the best male rock vocal performance.
Ronnie Platt and I could be twins. His story is my story almost to a "T". Born in IL, listening to all the awesome music and vocalists that came out in the 70's, singing in choirs/madrigals and playing in bands. The problems with the voice are exactly what I've expressed to others. Fickle. I still sing and perform in a Styx tribute band (Paradise Theatre) taking the parts of Dennis DeYoung. The only difference is Ronnie made it... I was close. Thanks for a great interview!
I love your interviews and videos in general. Do you take requests? lol Please do something about The Kinks. They are special, underrated and almost forgotten. Both Ray and Dave are getting up there in years and we, unfortunately, won't have much more time with them on this Earth. An interview. A tribute for a classic album. Anything.
1977 was my first of MANY times seeing Kansas live. The last 2 shows w Steve were hard, his voice was going and gone. The last time I saw them was in 2016, in NC. They were touring with Styx and Don Felder, Perry was at the helm and did a great job. I'll be seeing them in Colorado Springs this year.
Just listen to Jon Anderson singing “Gethsemane” on Jesus Christ Superstar. The perfect voice that brought tears to my eyes. No one else could have sung that song like Jon did. Wow! I could listen to it over and over.
I agree, the last two Kansas albums are among their best in the entire discography. I would love to see Tom take over the band after everyone finally retires and keep the fire burning.
Too bad Steve wasn’t nearly as intelligent as Ronnie. Clean living is the best thing you can do to keep your voice in shape. And Steve lived a far from clean life. Hence, his downfall. Watch & listen to Live at the Whisky - what an utter mess he was. Too bad.
My favorite is Chris Cornell who was a baritone who had a 4 octave range who had more power and body in his upper range and had loads of soul when he sings
I think it was because YES has Billy Sherwood who was there but there were politics.regarding the YES RRHOF thing. Geddy even asked Billy why HE wasn't doing it.
John Farnham is the greatest rock voice ever. He also kicks arse in opera! Check out John Farnham and Anthony Warlow. He is the voice 🙏❤️thank God I was privileged to hear it many times live 🙌
So glad you mentioned Lou Gramm. Always overlooked, and he was incredible.

Brad Delp gave me goose bumps.

Music touches us like nothing else...doesn't it.
Perry's voice is forever and I am never not in the mood for it.
Journey isn't Journey without Perry.
You have a point ...... favorite Journey: NEXT album....
Saw KANSAS : POINT of KNOW RETURN tour and MONOLITH tour and in a small club in Augusta, Ga 1993....great Everytime...love Kansas.....
Saw them last month near Sacramento. You couldn’t have blown me away any more than you did! Bravo!
I love this guy. For us people who grew up in tge 70's he is one of us.
We are seeing Kansas tonight at The Show in Rancho Mirage, CA (Agua Caliente). I can't wait!
I saw Yes and Kansas. Both great shows. Wish Journey with Steve Perry came near me.
I also saw Foreigner with Lou Gramm , Heart & oh shoot now I forgot the other group .
Ronnie gravitated to the same bands as me; Boston, Styx, Kansas (fav), Journey, and Foreigner. Oh and Shooting Star. Glad to hear Phil is on the mend.
Sept 2, 2016 saw Kansas in San Antonio, Texas.. They put their hearts out on the stage. Excellent sound, beautiful performance. Walked out feeling great.
All Great! Also Dont forget Rik Emmet of Triumph. Clear very high voice and a great writer/ musician.❤
Great interview! Just seen them again back in May.Nothing short of amazing.Ronnie is always spot on IMO.
Among the times i've seen kansas live, I got to see them front row on Long Island in NY twice.

Great interview John👍🏼❤️ So fun to hear an established R-N-R singer who grew up loving the same bands that you and I loved!!! And Ronnie is a fan of these bands👌❤️
Kansas has always had good singers. They always sound great!
We saw Kansas last night at the Venue in Lincoln, CA and it was great! ❤ Ronnie and the rest of the band sounded so good, we loved the show and are already planning to see them again!
Great interview!❤
I thought one of the coolest things about 70's AM radio was the diversity in the genres of music you would hear.
Great mentions. I’ll add Paul Rodgers.

What a lineup!
Perry never took voice lessons. The 🐐 didn't need voice lessons.
I saw that Van Halen..Montrose... Journey...tour also in ATLANTA, GA....THE FOX THEATER.....one of the best shows ever and seen quite a bit.......
Fantastic interview! What a down-to-earth guy. Thanks!
This is the kind of stuff, as a singer, I love to absorb. Thanks Guys. And yes, these are some challenging vocals.
Brad Delp (RIP)....buf if you compare the soul, the depth of Steve Walsh ( or even Robby Steinhardt of Kansas )....Watch Brad Delp in concert.....kinda, just not comparable. Best to all of them yet stilll......
Steve Walsh and Streets......................... awesome

I seen Kansas in concert in Norwalk CT was great
How about Greg Lake of ELP.
If Mozart were still alive, he'd be in Kansas.😊
I think he’d have been reincarnated as Kerry Livgren, for sure. No greater songwriter in the modern age.
My first car was also a Mercury Montego. A ‘76.
Ronnie has such an ideal voice for Kansas as he vocal tone fits perfectly in between Elefante and Walsh.
Just listen to Jon Anderson singing “Gethsemane” on Jesus Christ Superstar. The perfect voice that brought tears to my eyes. No one else could have sung that song like Jon did. Wow! I could listen to it over and over.

Masque one of the best albums
Absence of Presence is a gem!
See you folks October 26, 2024 in Austin Texas
Where does the intro music being played in this Podcast come from?
What a great guy! He is truly a great replacement for the honorable Steve Walsh!
....no one can touch steve walsh....he is the man........
Correct
Too bad Steve wasn’t nearly as intelligent as Ronnie. Clean living is the best thing you can do to keep your voice in shape. And Steve lived a far from clean life. Hence, his downfall. Watch & listen to Live at the Whisky - what an utter mess he was. Too bad.
There are no violin parts in “Carry On” - Robbie sings & plays tambourine.
the key is live singing, delp was great but needed the studio, im a dio man myself, and bob seger can sing with anyone.
OMG DID HE SAY FOGHAT? YAY!!
My favorite is Chris Cornell who was a baritone who had a 4 octave range who had more power and body in his upper range and had loads of soul when he sings
Live? All of those. Lou Gramm, Pat Travers, Greg Lake, Klaus Meine, Bruce Dickinson, etc, etc....
Steve won't was fantastic without a doubt but my favorite is Mickey Thomas
Nobody can touch Jon Anderson (YES).
But his voice is not right for Kansas.
I think it was because YES has Billy Sherwood who was there but there were politics.regarding the YES RRHOF thing. Geddy even asked Billy why HE wasn't doing it.
Billy was not invited in as a member of Yes to the RRHOF so could not appear, is my guess.
I didn't realize Chevy Chase could sing so good! 🤣
Didn't know Ronnie knew how to play bass
John Farnham is the greatest rock voice ever. He also kicks arse in opera! Check out John Farnham and Anthony Warlow. He is the voice 🙏❤️thank God I was privileged to hear it many times live 🙌
He can't hold a candle to Steve Perry or Freddie Mercury
John Anderson of Yes has a high voice and is not singing falsetto.
The name may carryon, however it is not the same.
2 words for Ronnie... John Elefante
Meaning??
yes but Seeds of Change,,,,,,is maybe the Ultimate,,,,have a boosterdrink no drink can i trust himmmmmmmm
LOVE Seeds of Change and all Kerry’s music - Kansas, solo, AD, and Proto-Kaw!
