  • Is it worth the extra $1500 to buy the Canon version over the Samyang?
Compare footage and photos between the Canon 85mm f1.4 IS and the Samyang 85mm AF f1.4.
Both lenses are the EF version and I used the canon adapter to rf on the r5c.
Filmed on the full frame Canon R5c in clog3. A clog3 to rec709 canon lut was applied in post.
Audio recorded on Rode Podmic USB.

Good comparison and presentation .. this is the FL prime that is beckoning me for my old 5D IV set up. I have good Canon and Zeiss wide angle prime lenses and this one I should get. Canon it will be for the colours, just looks more right. Cheers, nice one.

Thanks! Yeah she is a beauty, and paired with the mark 4 you’d be a very happy human!

Did you buy the samyang ?

I had originally purchased the Samyang, used it for a while then decided to buy the canon version. I then sold the Samyang.

Thanks for the awesome video, as a R5C owner I wonder if the Samyang 85mm lens would suffer from video specific functions grayed out in the settings manual? I have an older sigma lens that has this issue, can't adjust focus speed etc... Would be great to know before I pull the trigger on this one :)

Hey there! I wish I could check for you but I sold it a little while back. I can’t remember if anything was greyed out in the menus. Sorry about that!

What body did you use? And is the lens EF or RF?

Both lenses are the EF version and I used the canon adapter to use on the canon r5c.

Sir I'm going to begin my career in photography and I'm from India and think to purchase new camera as canon rp with samyang 85mm 1.8 or 1.4

      @videographerstuff539  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hi, the general benefit to the 1.4 is that you can take photos in darker situations as well as the great look for portraits of the really blurry background. The sweet spot for the 1.4 would be using it at 1.8 or 2. Generally with lenses 1 or 2 stops up from wide open is the sharper spot.
Hope that helps. Best of luck on your journey!

I've had that Samyang for years. Takes beautiful portraits.

Oh nice! Had you tried the ef version prior? Don’t know if the rf is any better/faster at auto focus? Love to know :)

@@videographerstuff539 I never got the chance to try the EF. But the RF version autofocus works extremely well.

Minimum focus distance is ok. Great focal length
