- When riding the Empire State Trail, it’s helpful to know some of the details of the cities and towns you’ll ride through. I’ve published a detailed description of riding through Syracuse from East to West. This video will show video highlights riding from West to East. For details, check out my other video. This video won’t go into as much detail, but is intended to show points of interest that will be important for West to East riders.
I had the privilege of riding with Tyler Stancill through Syracuse on the Empire State Trail. I caught up with Tyle on the West side of Syracuse. Tyler started his ride in the Florida Keys and is riding the Eastern Divide Trail, part of which goes along the Empire State Trail. The Eastern Divide Trail goes from the Florida Keys to the Eastern most tip of Newfound Land. Tyler started in the Keys and at this point, has over 3000 miles behind him! Once completed, he’ll be the second person ever to ride that trail and the first to ride it from South to North.
This video will look at navigating Syracuse in four parts, from west to east:
03:38 Lake and Fair Grounds
10:29 Onondaga Creek Walk
16:12 Downtown
23:14 Erie Blvd
In each section we'll look at a map of the area then show video of what key parts will look like.
Let's get to the trail!
I been to Syracuse great place to ride
Another piece of bullshit. "Gravel" is thumb-sized stones mixed with sand. [There is "pea gravel", with smaller stones.] What bicyclists seem to think is gravel is actually stone dust. [Compacted lime/talc-like dust with a thin coating of crushed shale on top.] I did CEC three times and encountered absolutely NO gravel.
