    I got an F2 this year and it has made me excited to take pictures again and I started in the early 90s and was Canon for years. I love my F2.

    You can actually use Non-AI lenses with the F3, you just have to push in the little silver pin on the camera that sits next to your aperture ring and it will let you flip up the tab that normally catches on AIS lenses. The only issue with using Non-AI lenses on the F3 is metering with them can be a little tricky. In order to get a proper reading you need to use the depth of field preview button first, otherwise it'll just give you whatever reading it's at when the lens is wide open.

    I have a Nikon F3 that I picked up with several Nikon lenses for a trade of a leather jacket that I stopped wearing. Its a great camera; however, I have been a fan of the Canon F-1 new with the AE finder. These came out about the same time and I would say they were competitors. Both professional cameras and quite expensive in their days.

    Make a video of Nikon F3 vs Canon New F-1? I remembered seeing the F-1 Video of yours. Will be interested to see you talk about these two amazing camera who were direct competitors back then!!!

    Had two of these F3HP cameras with motor drives. It was the best Sports camera of it's day! Covered a lot of NFL and College games and it never failed me. If you want a bright screen, back in the day Bettie made focus screen for all of the professional camera bodies. Much brighter and super easy to focus with. I used them whenever I was shooting sports with manual focus telephoto glass back in the day.

    Great video. I am looking to get a 35mm for my F3. Do you know whether there is a difference in performance between the F2.8 (the one you mentioned) vs. the F2.0? Both seems to be within the same price range on second hand market. Thanks.

    Two months ago, I purchased a Nikon F3 from Facebook Marketpage with a 50mm 1.4 (Non-Ai) lens. I have added to my collection a 85mm 2.8 lens, an MD-4 motor drive, and an SB-16A flash. This has been my dream camera since it was first released back in 1980. Today, I am looking to purchase a 28mm 2.8 lens.

    I loved my F3 before it broke. It was like new when I bought it in ‘03. Now it’s dented and worn. and the shutter speed dial doesn’t work (stuck on auto). I must have put hundreds of rolls through that thing. Mine has the non-HP finder, which is way better IMO. One thing I really don’t like about it is the exposure compensation dial. It’s just a pain having to hold that little button. My other gripe is the meter display with the plus and minus signs and the lcd that’s hard to see at times. I prefer the colored LEDs that Pentax SLRs had during that era.

    Fantastic camera, no doubt.
    The most smooth 35mm SLR? The Canon EOS-1n and EOS-1v. Fast, sharp EF, auto-focus glass, with image stabilization. Weather sealed bodies, L lenses are sealed. The EOS-1n is a steal. Most EF lenses are cheap as people are shedding them to get into RF mount. Don't sleep on EF glass at the moment.

    Upfront, I am a Nikon fanatic. I bought my first Nikon in 1980, it was an FE. I'm lucky to now own mint condition versions of all Nikon professional cameras from the F to the F6 (a lot of eBay surfing late in to the night) along with FEs, FMs, an FM3A, and others. Would I consider the F3 to be the best? Whilst I like its compact size and professional build quality, I think I prefer the FE with its significantly better light metering system and smooth ergonomics. I love the shutter speed control dial on both of these cameras in what we now term the retro style (I bought the Nikon Zf on its release just to get this style in a digital camera, and I also have a couple of Fujifilm X-T cameras for the same reason). But, if I am honest, I think the best film camera I have ever used, and own, has to be the Nikon F6. Its a big camera compared to the F3 and has none of the retro styling (you'd think from the looks that it is a digital camera), but it has so much control that is lacking in the F3. My favourite (not the best) film camera remains my first which was the Nikon FE, but I definitely think the best film SLR (ignore Leica & Hasselblad - they are not in this frame of reference) camera has to be, for so many reasons, the Nikon F6.

    Don’t necessarily need Ai-S lenses for a camera which doesn’t have shutter priority (FA only) or Program Mode. Unless you specifically think you’ll get an FA or a program mode camera (like F4) Ai lenses will work just as well and are often cheaper than their Ai-S counterparts. The only Ai-S lens with a different optical formula than their Ai counterparts, I believe was the Ai-S 28/2.8…

    • @DI-cm5xc
      @DI-cm5xc ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. The 28 went from a 7 to 8 element design with closer focusing and improved optical quality. All others remained the same, although there is a slightly shorter focus throw on some of the Ai-s, if not all, focal lengths. I know my 28 Ai-s has a slightly shorter throw than my Ai.

Lots of landscape as I camp a lot. Any suggestions? I am not sure where to look to buy either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

    • @PSYCHIC_PSYCHO
      @PSYCHIC_PSYCHO ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend that you consider the Panasonic Lumix LX7 which was launched about 12 years ago; it has a 24-90mm f2.8 zoom lens which is very good for landscapes, especially when you select the 16:9 Widescreen format. I recommend that you buy a spare recharger and at least 2 spare batteries.

    I was ready to give you a thumb down, but... Suddenly the reasoning hit me: How in the World a guy that love and still is using the centenaries Nikkormat FTn and the nikkormat EL can have the audacity of give a thumb down to any one!!??? Sorry about my first reaction, I sincerely apologize... F3 is loved for thousands of professionals and amateur photographers thru the Earth, just that I am an special case. When the advertising on this camera hit the streets I was working for a retailer of photographic products. From cameras to roll films, from darkroom to studio and including all the things that are like a bait to fish amateurs... Being a lover of the Nikon F2, I have great expectations for the F3, dreaming about the one I supposed will be my perfect camera... Bottom end...
    Yes, in my humble opinion is a great camera for that time taking in consideration the electronic advancements, but from my viewpoint I was desiring something closer to the FE2.. I just was disappointed and that make me just don't enjoy the arrival of an equipment that still make me miserable when I need to use electronic lights outdoors, due its synchro time of 1/60 sec. Probably the newspaper reporter love this camera, inside the studio can be use too, candy pictures in the street are a no brainer, but all that things can be made to with the F2 and were made with the Nikormats, Pentax, Minoltas, Olympos, etc... Using aperture priority was being made since the Nikkormat EL. In general, having a sweet spot for this camera is the option of each one; but as an equipment that mark a point in photography history... mmm... I have to be convinced yet...

    Nikon F3 is G.O.A.T SLR since 1980 and will be forever. Why... cuz it was G.O.A.T. in 1980 when launched, all due respect to Leica the unobtainable for most and finicky. But most important... no manufacturer will ever invest in making a film camera of the F3's unparalleled quality and durability again. Shoot, not even Nikon has bested the F3.
