Thanks for sharing this great video. Since ES File Explorer has been removed from Google Play TV Store. You can find "MI Box APK Installer" and install it on Shield. Once installed, APK can be easily installed from USB storage and make sideloading a piece of cake.
As a very experienced user of FX file explorer you can very easily move a file with it. You can use the cut feature to move It from one folder to another and also use split screen. If you select the split view it shows you a second window where you can choose the destination folder you want to move a file to. once both folders are viewable select the file in one folder and select cut. once you have cut the file then simply navigate and highlight something in the folder you wish to move it to. this part is a little strange but very easy to get used to. Once you have selected any item in the destination folder then simply navigate over to the side menu and back up to the paste option being careful not to select anything in the first folder or it will simply stay in the same folder. I'm always moving files and the way I usually do it is I select split view and go to the first folder, cut the file and select anything in the destination folder and then carefully navigate to the side menu and select paste. When you select paste a little box asking if you want to paste of the file into the folder you have selected will appear. Just say yes and then you will clearly see that the file is not in the original folder and is now in your new destination.you can also copy the file and then paste it but usually if I'm moving a file I just cut and paste. FX file explorer is amazing. very easy navigation on the Nvidia shield and even easier navigation with a touchscreen device which is why I use it on my phone, tablet, and Android box which is The Shield. It's literally the only file manager app I need for Android and gives me access to everything. certain system folders on my Nvidia Shield I have denied access to and I'm okay with that because everything I need access to I already have. I think if I buy the pro version I can get greater access but I'm not trying to mess with the device, route it, anything like that so everything I need access to I get from the free version. Best of all it's very lightweight, fast, wonderful all around. Much better than all of the nonsense we have endured for years from ES file explorer and luckily I stopped using it more than a year ago and avoided all of these sketchy practices they are up to now.I have banned in ES file explorer back when it was just not the best thing anymore, it's amazing how many people are clueless about this stuff and still recommend it or are desperately searching for ways they can still download something that is bad.

Thanks for the video! I avoid "FREE" apps like the plague. Compared to PC software, Android apps are practically free anyways, and the developers should be compensated for their hard work. I paid for the ES explorer Pro a long time ago. I feel kind of violated by their practices. I noticed that ES explorer was getting sort of bloated as time went on, but it was still a great file manager. I need a file explorer that can connect to my server and transfer some files back and forth. ES explorer was great in that respect. I'll be checking out your suggestions for sure, but the ability to log in to the server and Read/Write on both ends is the most important thing to me.

Well, some users do not like ES File Explorer while some do. For me, as long as it works fine, I am ok with these ads. For my previous Android TV, I had been using ES File Explorer and got used to it. Two days ago, after I brought home a bigger Android TV, I was looking for ES File Explorer on Google Play Store but it was gone. I tried to sideload ES File Explorer's APK from my flash drive along with my own APK collection but failed. My buddy told me that Android 8 and 9 no longer allow users to sideload from a flash drive. It was very disappointing. Then, I was looking around for a sideload tool on Google Play Store and I found a tool called "MI Box APK Installer". I tried it and it works just fine. Now, I am having ES File Explorer again and also my APK collection installed Instead of repeating search/download/install all the APKs here and there. Just some experience to share with you guys and hope it may help you too.
I tried "Solid" file manager & then "FX File Explorer" and I couldn't get on with either of them. I then found one which I personally liked very much. It is called "File Manager (Flashlight + Clock)" and has a yellow folder with a black F on it and it stated that it is from Google Productivity. I was drawn to it because it has a 4.8 Star rating. I found it easy to use which is important to me. I have no idea what the Flashlight & Clock refers to. I have previously used ES File Explorer and I don't find changes very easy to cope with. I don't know much about android devices but so far I have found the File Manager from Productivity to do everything I needed including linking to the Google Drive & cloud. It even lets you access files from your PC in the free version. All of it is free. There is a paid version available for £1.99 a year or a one off payment of £6.99 but it is not clear whether there are any advantages. I have not seen any ads while using it for about two hours. It states that Dark Theme is available in the paid version. Thank you for your very helpful videos. Maybe you could review the file manager which I found to see whether it is one you would recommend? Shout out to you Steve. Been out here but on the quiet side. FX looks like a pretty good ES alternative or even replacement. The interface seems to have a cleaner, easy to get to everything look. I've been using ES on my Fire tvs and Fire stick and it has been a big help in my file management, on my Fire tvs and Fire stick.. I'm guessing you're using a mouse in this review. Problem for me with ES, is navigating with the Fire stick remote control. It does not work easily or allow me to "click" directly to a specific field or location, at first, or not at all. Have you given FX a go, yet, using a Fire stick/mouse combo? ES does allow moving/copying/backing up a file to, say, my usb storage on the Fire tv[boxes]. With no FX "Move" feature, does that mean no backing up a file to my usb storage or will the "Copy" function allow for that? Keep up the good work.

Files with the .dot in front of the file name makes them hidden. In Solid Exployer, I have yet to find a way to see these .dot files. I have show hidden files in the Solid Exployer and also in the view option on the PC. But will not allow viewing and working with these types of files while using FTP. It is important, since it is easy to copy the .Kodi files and move to another device. Do you know how or if this is possible? Side note, I can see the .files in the solid exployer and also in the pc. However with the FTP connection, I cannot see the files to work with. FX exployer it works, Mixployer and ES exployer all work. I do like the layout of Solid exployer. I just got a Seagate expansion 4tb external hard drive for my Nvidia Shield 16 gigabyte, I still have ES File Explorer but I do not like it because it is super glitchy. Sometimes it reads my external hard drive and sometimes it does not. I want to try one of the other ones you suggested in the video but so far FX file explorer shows the Seagate drive as empty, and the Solid Explorer doesn't even show the drive at all. Am I missing something here? Can you help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks man, love your Channel!

Adding Google Chrome to Kodi. I used your video to install Chrome once before. Now that I had to do a full factory reset Google is gone. Right now I can't seem to find that video. Is there an update to install Google using FX file explorer?
Stephen I bought the paid version of ES File Explorer quite a while ago because it allowed me to make apk backups of all my programs then on some future rebuild not have to go back to all those websites. Do you know of anything else that can do that?

Yea I've use its back in og days when the pro was free. Was the king for so long. Could do everything. The free version suckw tho once they went premium.
What feature do you think is missing from the free version? You can copy and move files with the free version. You can also upload it to other services like Google storage or FTP. Also even if there is something you need from the pro version it's only like two bucks or something. Just install the Google Rewards app and you can generate that very easily just by answering a couple of surveys. Usually no longer than three questions and before you know it you can buy the pro version. For just a couple bucks for a file browser you can use for life I don't see how that isn't a good deal.
Gail, I have the paid version of ES File Explorer, on my phone. It (supposedly) does not have the ads since it is the paid version. Anyway, it continues to function as it has always done. I imagine it will until I need to update my phone. The only thing is that it won't be receiving security updates from the Play Store. Whichever version (Free or Paid) will not be receiving updates, which means any vulnerabilities that exist within the app will remain on your phone as long as it is installed. I haven't made up my mind yet whether to suck it up and uninstall ES File Explorer. I also have the paid version of Solid Explorer, and it is great. I need the cloud, network, FTP access, so that is why I get the paid versions. ES still wins as far as ease of use goes. But once you adapt to the "split screen" copying on Solid, it is just as good.
I have a few problems with Solid Explorer though 1 the inability to open up more than 2 separate folders 2 The lack of password for hidden folders, 3 The music player 4 The file selection, it's got the select all and invert selected, but not the option of easily selecting files like for example, I have files named A,B,C,...,Z. I can't easily select from D to L. 5 I can't find a way to change the default app for opening files, so I'm to afraid to set a default app

I had the free version of ES File Explorer until about a year ago when my phone's Avast antivirus kept showing adware in the app. I then bought ES File Explorer Pro. I'm so peed off right now, but I hope they ether host the app on there website or put the pro version on the Amazon App Store and make a way to transfer the license to Amazon. Heck even if they put it on Samsung's app store I'd be happy. I'm just used to running this file explorer and I don't want to change to a different one especially since I paid for it.

You can literally download the apk of ES File Manager online in half a second... This is 2019 and we're on an Open Source firmware... Like are you serious right now?
ES file explorer has not been the best one to use for a long time. years ago it used to be reign supreme but not with the very lightweight fast and add free competition that is today. FX file explorer is my preferred choice and I use it daily on my Nvidia Shield to manage my Plex server, move files around, Etc.it's horrible how many TH-camrs blindly still recommend ES file explorer when it's a bloated app that is full of ads and even has recent controversy about really infecting people's privacy and demanding too many usage rights privileges even when the user disables it it still looks at all your data to use with their advertisers however they choose I'm sure. FX file explorer should be almost as there's need. It even has a great split screen feature which I find very useful from moving files when cut and paste isn't good enough.
@@stephencornelious I used to use ES browser as well up until the point where they showed they are no longer trustworthy . If you can't trust the app that is your file browser app it's time to find a better file browser app. As soon as I heard the shenanigans they pulled that got them booted from the Google store that was the moment I switched to FX. It does everything I need plus some advanced features like FTP. Lightweight fast and an important aspect in my opinion is that it's very clean layout period no ads, no bs. Just a lightweight clean app with all of the features I need plus more . Couldn't ask for a better file browser. Time to make the switch Stephen. :)

ES file explorer has not been the best one to use for a long time. years ago it used to be reign supreme but not with the very lightweight fast and add free competition that is today. FX file explorer is my preferred choice and I use it daily on my Nvidia Shield to manage my Plex server, move files around, Etc.it's horrible how many TH-camrs blindly still recommend ES file explorer when it's a bloated app that is full of ads and even has recent controversy about really infecting people's privacy and demanding too many usage rights privileges even when the user disables it it still looks at all your data to use with their advertisers however they choose I'm sure.
FX file explorer should be almost as there's need. It even has a great split screen feature which I find very useful from moving files when cut and paste isn't good enough.
Your right if your talking about the free one but the pro was a really good app.

@@stephencornelious I used to use ES browser as well up until the point where they showed they are no longer trustworthy . If you can't trust the app that is your file browser app it's time to find a better file browser app. As soon as I heard the shenanigans they pulled that got them booted from the Google store that was the moment I switched to FX. It does everything I need plus some advanced features like FTP. Lightweight fast and an important aspect in my opinion is that it's very clean layout period no ads, no bs. Just a lightweight clean app with all of the features I need plus more . Couldn't ask for a better file browser. Time to make the switch Stephen. :)
