I've had my eye on the Pro version for awhile, but good to know I may need to sit it on top of a cooling fan (which I have tons of and are virtually silent unlike this 2021 version) to make sure it plays fine. Thanks for testing Wicked!

The disadvantage is that you need to supply your own micro SD card, ROMs and controller and then need to etch Emuelec to the SD card yourself. The process isn't hard though, Micro SD cards are affordable and EmuElec isn't picky - just about any wired USB controller will work and even a lot of wireless controllers can be made to work once paired via a wired connection. And chances are your own controller is going to be better quality than whatever any of these ready-made boxes come with.

Having the cooler like that horizontal on top is going to be a big issue for dust getting into the device. You're going to have to clean it out every now and then. It doesn't look like a big improvement over the pro. They could have at least worked on the software a bit more.
Is this an overclock? Does the original "Super Console X" throttle due to heat? Otherwise, I don't see why adding cooling would result in a performance improvement.
The first model turned off when it reached a certain temperature (15-20 mins). One solution was to leave the console uncovered at the top. I think this new model or the Super Game Box are necessary, but i think the fan is not essential with those holes.

I had the regular console x and now own the Pro version and had both systems on for over 10 hours and they never really ever got to hot but maybe i was just lucky.
Think these things are fine without the fan for what they're doing, you got smart phones running graphically intensive PC games without a fan! The fans not going to suddenly push this thing into hyper drive and turn it into a PC! This just proves these guys are listening. . . . And plenty of other similar devices without fans, Snes mini, PS mini etc etc etc. . .. This just screams overdesigned now lol . . . Can you imagine Sony slapping a massive fan on the top of the PS5 to placate the clickbaiting youtubers! lol

I wonder if a piece of aluminum bridging the chip heatsink to the exterior metal would better conduct heat? I also wonder if overclocking would improve performance. Some other presenters show where that can be done. What is the good and bad side of overclocking?
Is it possible for you to test out different games? You (and almost all reviewers) always test the same handful of games. Even if the games don't run perfectly, just to give us an idea of how they run.
I have the x pro and you could fry an egg on it after a few hours. I've not had any performance issues though, not ones that appear heat related anyway
Great video. I like to get a digital thermometer and lay the probe on the out vent of air cooled machines. Then you can see what games make the system warmer, or cooler.
I don't know much about alot of these plug and play systems that play numerous consoles. Ok, the question I have, forgive me for sounding stupid, but, do you have to download games into an SD card to play them on systems like that? I don't own a computer. Actually never have. So that's out of the question but the thought of buying a system that can play a shit ton of games right out the box sounds awesome.
If you don't own a PC it's going to be difficult. I would say.. maybe buy a cheap second hand laptop. So you can always mess around with stuff like this ?
If you dont want to add games and are satisfied with what you get you dont nevessarily need no computer. I have the regular scx for about a year now and most issues i had could be solved within the settings
That fan is a fraud... a next-level air-CON-ditioning scam..!! :-D If it was directly part of a larger aluminium heat-sink and 'glued' to the surface of the CPU/GPU then it might make sense...even put a more powerful CPU/GPU under it to get the increase in performance that this thing is made to look like it can give!!

I saw in another TH-cam video that if u dig into the settings and change the the emulator for N64 the games run smoother.
Don't forget. The RetroplayPS has lesser specs and it runs PS1 great if you're running Batocera on it.
