    Just wanted to say that I did realize afterwards that I put the heat shield on the new SSD backwards so make sure to flip it the OPPOSITE way that I installed it! Sorry for the mix up!

    Did my upgrade on my Steam Deck all by myself!!! Took a little work with the USB drive to get things to work properly with the download to the drive, but once I figured it out it took maybe 30 minutes to install the Steam Deck OS, put in the 2TB SSD card and get things up and running…. Once again I really appreciate your help!!!!!!

    You can also create any liveUSB of any linux, boot into that, then clone the installation you already have onto a new SSD (connect using an external enclosure). Then switch the SSD and boot into it. Of course most people don't have an external SSD enclosure, but it is possible.

      How do I create a live usb ? I have the enclosure. Just need process. Or command?

    Great vid! Is there any advantage to a fresh install instead of cloning the old drive?

    Great guide. Two questions. 1) You put the unit in Battery Storage Mode at the beginning. When you get to the part where you hold Volume Up and Power, does the unit power up OK without external power even though you were in Battery Storage Mode? 2) If the battery is discharged below 25% before you begin (as some guides recommend), can you safely/successfully re-image without external power?

    You might want to check the heat shield; I think the two prongs are to surround the screw holding the m.2 down. Would it be possible to show an example of the difference between micros sd and m.2? On paper the m.2 is clearly superior, but I can't seem to find a example of the difference in a real-world situation in regard to the Steam Deck. Thanks

      @@Nicktechnoo You might want to add it into your description that the shield was placed back in on the video the wrong way around. Great video, however I was cringing when the heat shield was placed on wrong. Checked the comments before commenting myself, that it was wrong.

    Battery ribbon? The battery is to the right of the plate

    Bought a64GB model, a 1TD SSD and a 1TB SD card. A couple of months later, I bought a 2TB SSD. Now I'm eagerly waiting for even larger capacity SSDs and SDs 😅😅😅

  • @novardarkmatter9583
    @novardarkmatter9583 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Is that really a “battery ribbon cable”? If you were intending to disconnect the battery then correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the connector for that is to the right of the heatsink, next to the battery. At least I’m pretty sure that’s what other guides remove in order to disconnect the battery.

    • @Nicktechnoo
      @Nicktechnoo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I was following another tutorial who stated to unplug it and they called it the battery ribbon cable, So I just followed suit. I know with the LCD model the battery ribbon cable is right under the shield you remove to get to the SSD so possibly with the OLED they moved it so it's easier to access?

    This may be a stupid question, but I want to make sure I don't mess up the process once I get the steam deck. I just ordered mine and would I be able to just put it go straight to the boot manager, shut it off and then proceed with replacing the SSD? Or should I set it up first, then shut it down completely and then proceed to do the whole process? Just want to make sure I do not accidentally cause my steam deck to not turn on after doing the process. Thanks a lot! 👍🏼

    • @Nicktechnoo
      @Nicktechnoo  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Replacing the SSD will require you to re install the entire Operating system on the new SSD as shown in this video, so there will be no need to set it up once you get it if you're going to replace the SSD right away :)
