  • In the final laps of the 2002 Daytona 500, Sterling Marlin spins out Jeff Gordon, then during a red flag, pulls out the fender(which he is not supposed to do), causing to him to be penalized and allowing Ward Burton to win the race.

    Smartest Driver in NASCAR. He was gonna blow a tire anyway. And there was a possibility he could have pulled it out real quick and NASCAR would have let it go. Either way he was screwed.

      People always say that but sometimes tire rubs go away. It can't have been that bad if he did a whole lap in the lead.

    He was screwed either way. Either the tire would have blown or NASCAR was gonna black flag him.

      Im with you. Surely if he hadnt got out and pulled the fender, he wouldve wrecked or pitted and finished 20th - ish - as it was he got a top ten. I cant see how that is a dumb move.
      Hope youre good.

    Sterling would have won the 2002 cup championship had the crash at Richmond not injured him. He’d have the exact same season until race 27, then have Tony Stewart’s results in the remaining races, except the 6th to last race at Charlotte where he would have won!

    • @stephenholloway6893
      @stephenholloway6893 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richmond played a role but it was Kansas that finished his season. Even if he didn't get injured at Richmond the Kansas crash could had ended his season regardless.
