In my opinion, Roy Keane is the best player in premier league history. Now, before my head bitten off, he's the best leader I've ever seen, the most consistent passer, an underrated dribbler, tackled like a center half, and won games. Never has somebody put the team on their back like Keane, never has a man rallied a team, never has a man commanded a pitch like Roy Keane. I haven't seen anybody like him since, and I miss it.
I love and respect Keane, but Stevie G could do everything Roy could, Scholes could and Lampard could, he was a leader, aggressive, passing range was unbelievable, and he scored his fair amount of goals! Was he as good a leader as Keane? No! Was he as good a passer as Scholes, no, was he as consistent on the goal front as Lampard? No! But he could do ALL of them to a top level! Keane was a great player, but not the best! He’s the best commentator though, love listening to him talk about football as well!

I remember in the late 90s people consistently talking about Keane being denied Player of the Year because of his temperament before he won 1. It was remarkable the difference between Utds performances when he played and when he didnt. When you consider the players they had. What a player.

Yes I agree, Alonso is a good comparison, more like Keane in that was always in the right place and moving correctly, but he lacked the engine. The really important part of both Gerrard and Keane was their ability to tackle, burst and create attacks, and you needed an engine they both had in their younger days.

In addition, his cynical, shoot-from-the-hip criticism of the Irish defenders after the infamous Thierry Henry's handball in 2009 was uncalled for, as were his comments about Irish fans at Poland / Ukraine in 2012 (some of whom, no doubt, had made him richer by buying his shirts over the years) who deserve to be respected. Roy Keane was a fantastic midfield player(At one time"Box 2 box")For Man Utd and Ireland..But unfortunately he w/b remembered for his Dirty tackles and challenges..And it does appear he could cultivate a argument in an empty Phone box!.And he always places himself as the injured party/victim..Not so sure about that,he enjoys the controversy &being at the centre of the attention..But as I said,when he was on form,he personified what a leader on the field is meant to be!

True, but what Keane said still wasn't that bad. He said Cunningham, as captain, wanted to be everyone's best mate rather than trying to win the game. Considering how Keane laid into Walters and Sir Alex he was relatively tame towards Cunningham.
While he was a classy player, he did have an aggressive, dirty side to his play that went over the edge at times, and his deliberately breaking Alfe Haagland's leg (and then boasting about it in his book, released around 15 months later) did take something away from his achievements and have a lot of people wondering "what the f*** is with this guy?" In addition, his cynical, shoot-from-the-hip criticism of the Irish defenders after the infamous Thierry Henry's handball in 2009 was uncalled for, as were his comments about Irish fans at Poland / Ukraine in 2012 (some of whom, no doubt, had made him richer by buying his shirts over the years) who deserve to be respected. As assistant coach he did give the players that bit of confidence that had been lacking, which I applaud him for, but all in all, he's a complex guy: God to Man U. fans, the devil to others; and this is coming from a die-hard Ireland fan...No offence intended to fanatical RK fans, but I'm simply stating some facts... peace brothers and sisters....

This lad has never played football at any level if he's making statements like that. Long range shots which were few and far between and dried up in the second half of his career, and happened because his team was poor, which gave him license to shoot, mean he has superior technique?
Roy Keane has scored long range goals, he just played at a better team that won things so he never took it upon himself to smash from long range like Gerrard most games. Look up how many Gerrard missed.
