Not for wen shen, because he's the best playing riven at his 101% too much limit knowledge and amazing micro game, he can outplay and do 1vX rushing gorde drinker into black cleaver+shojin atm
I think the explanation is that in higher elo, people tend to make less mistake overall so it's harder to for the snowballing aspect of ravenous hydra to shine. In contrast, it's a much safer choice to go goredrinker, since the purpose of hydra is to sustain and wave clear, goredrinkier can provide the sustain good enough and it gives him an option to control the waves better as well.
He explained this on stream too. Basically he has a shtt ton of games with riven and all of them are with goredrinker so at this point it's also just that he knows riven's limits with goredrinker really well so if he went a game with hydra he would probably mess up some calculations that he wouldn't have messed up. He's also very used to having the build path to goredrinker instead of any of the other builds especially because of how strong the build path for goredrinker is in the early game. Goredrinker is also a huge first item spike in comparison to any other items just because of the stats that it gives especially in teamfight situations.
You'll get a feel for riven's range and how short CDs allow for multiple skill rotations and how to burst when enemy is below a certain health and how to weave autos in between skills, there's a lot to master which is what makes riven fun and absolutely top champ
