Basic with Samual L Jackson and Jon Travolta was not a world record breaking blockbuster but the twisting story line makes everything you know about it and the cast change so many times it only makes sense at the end.
I'd say the first "Sleepaway Camp" deserves a mention. Much like "The Wicker Man" you think it's being way too obvious about what's actually going on...and then at the end it reveals there was a reason for that, so while you may have guessed correctly you still had no idea what the truth actually was.
Personally I thought "The Book Of Eli" was kinda shocking. It stars Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, and Mila Kunis. I didn't realize till the end. Watch it for yourselves, if you haven't yet. Peace and love y'all 🤟
The freakiest thing about this video was probably the cut at the end from Fight Club Norton to Primal Fear Norton and it taking half a second to remember that it's the same actor.
The problem I had with The Others is that it seemed like the writers ran out of things to do. So, they bring the clearly-died-in-combat husband into the movie and that pretty much dilutes the entire reveal. That dude is definitely a ghost of some sort, which could only mean ... When the seance occurs and tells us Kidman is a ghost, I was sort of like, "Yeah, I know ... the husband already told us."
At the time, I think about 40 to 50 percent of the people who were watching it for the first time just... "knew", ya know. You can see some defining characteristics, and there are hints throughout that help lead you to that conclusion. I just remembered me and my friends being like... wait, THAT is the "twist"? How could you NOT see that coming? Not to disparage anyone who didn't guess the twist beforehand.
I read the book Primal Fear and the twist at the end still slapped me, I was so enthralled by the movie. Much love to you too, Jules!!! Smashing it again!!!
I can say good list, but then you missed the original that created this script style. There was a John Wayne movie called The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, directed by John Ford and co starring James Stewart. A man who had his entire reputation and political career built off being the man who shot down a town bully outlaw named Liberty Valance, played admirably be Lee Marvin. It was during Kansas at the time trying to get statehood and Ransom Stoddard(James Stewart) being one if its first and founding politicians. As he tells the story of an old friend, the movie plays in flashback to the past mode, you find out his whole image is not what it seemed to be. Tom Doniphan, an anti hero, becomes a hero in a movie more sad than anything. It is one of the greatest scripts ever put to paper, and one of the original gotcha endings. Brilliant movie, completely wrong genre to try a twist, but it worked. Everything worked in that movie. If you look into it, that movie will be your new number 1 on that list.
Gotta say for Primal Fear, the fact he was threatened with going to jail for kill the Archbishop that assaulted him from his childhood onward and the fact the victim is treated like the bad guy for doing it, is kind or messed up.

@@paulgrotebeverborg1119 Welll…the name of the video refers to moments so they don’t all have to be at the end of the movie. That being said, finding out that Vader is Luke’s father is a major upend for the character and the audience. I’m telling my age when I say that the whole theater reacted when that mike got dropped. I’ll never forget it. Granted it was a lie of omission for Obi wan and Yoda not to tell Luke who his father was and good wordsmanship when Obi Wan says Vader killed Luke’s father but that’s all he and the audience knew- until this scene. It WAS a lie. And when we find out the truth it’s an “Oh Shit…what??”moment for sure. I think it’s okay to be added to the list. Cheers! 😛
Haven't seen this, but I've just checked Imdb and it looks promising! I'll be watching it tonight with a few beers. Cheers for the recommendation.... 🙂 🍄
I'm going to go with "Mr. Nobody". It starts with a simple enough premise, then has fun going all over the place, and ends in a way I really didn't see coming (but in a good way).
I love movies where the twist is so insane you couldn't see it coming. These days it feels like trailers will sell that twist for the chance at making money so you'll already know what's going to happen before you even go to the theater. I remember the Matrix mystery before it's release where it was just "You cannot understand the matrix until you see it for yourself" and the website kept the secret. Fight Club is one of my favorite movies as a story but I don't like that people want to make it into a creed.
Friday the thirteenth with the killer being who it was. And Psycho which gives you the reverse. Ahh. Mothers and sons. It’s a special relationship. 💀💀💀💀😂😂😂
You're missing the point of Memento. He didn't accidentally kill his wife. She committed suicide by tricking him to give her an overdose. It was unintentional for his part, but no accident.
Technically it wasn't suicide as she wasn't trying to die but trying to snap him out of his amnesia after the doctors said there wasn't any actual brain damage and it was all just in his head... But yes, still not quite a straight-up accident. Also worth noting that he had told us this story earlier in the movie but made it about someone else.
Sadly many of these twists are so infamous now, anyone watching for the first time will have heard about it, or will be waiting for a ‘twist’ to materialise. I remember seeing the Wicker Man for the first time having no idea about the ending. I felt numb for hours afterwards.
Yes, seeing and hearing Howie singing The Lord Is My Shepherd blending with the more raucous "Sumer-is-a-Cumin-in" (sic - it's deliberately written as that by the film team - it's based on Old English) is as creepy as HECK. The final shot of the head of the Man falling forward to reveal a beautiful sunset was chilling to boot too.
Automatically thought of The Others when I saw the list. Also Derailment is another good choice although with the title of the movie it seems obvious about the twist yet I was surprised.
That was a great and terrible twist. I had long wondered why that wasn't done more often, until I saw it. It was well done, but also kind of disappointing, if you liked the protagonist!
They won’t mention that because people assume the scene, thus the movie is transphobic. The character isn’t transgender because they never felt like they were actually a woman, they played the part to get what they wanted. Also the fact that he was a nut job disqualified him from being transgender, as explained in Silence of the Lambs, which the movie parodies. Side note, Buffalo Bill was also not transgender.
@@bbsy1 I wanted to initially thumbs down this comment, but this actually is a good point and a great use of a movie that gets mischaracterized to explain your point.
I can remember watching Primal Fear when I was 10 years old and waiting to see who played the main character. When I saw the name Edward Norton, I knew I needed to keep an eye out for him.
Never understood why people like The Usual Suspects so much. I watched it and about 20m into the movie it became apparent who Keyser Soza was. The rest just confirms it. I think The Crying Game was much more of a wow moment. Not to mention Jacob's Ladder....
Primal Fear! Anyone who has not seen it needs to! That's one of the most shocking endings ever. Of course if you are here reading this, I guess that spoils things a bit. But well worth seeing. Also, Memento! You MUST watch if you have not seen it. Usual Suspects, if someone here has someone not seen it, watch it TODAY. And Fight Club! This is a great list!
I expected Psycho and The Sixth Sense. One of my favorite reveals is in The Karate Kid. It wasn’t really “Everything was a lie,” but finding out that Daniel was learning karate while doing manual labor was cool, and I wish I had seen it in theaters to see the crowd’s reaction.
Nice that this offering remembers movies from earlier days as so many of these collections seem to think the world began around 2001 or so. And " The Conversation" reveal is so subtle, with only the slight inflection of "us' making all the difference.

That was trash. I saw that movie in theaters and said it was so dumb that an old man dying of cancer could lay there playing a dead body next to the two for more than 24 hours without ever making a sound or movement.
@@TYohMy You’re just mad because you didn’t predict that ending.
@VirtualBilly no, it just sucked and didn't make sense. I'm sorry that you could believe a dying old man can lay there for 24 hours making no noise. I won't tell you that the Easter Bunny doesn't exist

I think they might have gotten tired of using it
@@CTP909 same thing I was thinking, I guess they feel like they've already filled their Sixth Sense quota. I wish the same rule applied to Get Out, good lord they can't make a list about horror movies without talking about how great that overrated pile of trash is.
@@markzuckergecko621 or Memento
Sixth Sense, Fight Club and Shutter Island absolutely blew me away.
It's refreshing to see someone say this rather than claiming they knew the whole movie.
Basic with Samual L Jackson and Jon Travolta was not a world record breaking blockbuster but the twisting story line makes everything you know about it and the cast change so many times it only makes sense at the end.
Easily one of my favorite rewatchable movies.
I'd say the first "Sleepaway Camp" deserves a mention. Much like "The Wicker Man" you think it's being way too obvious about what's actually going on...and then at the end it reveals there was a reason for that, so while you may have guessed correctly you still had no idea what the truth actually was.
The Game, my favorite Michael Douglas movie.
The Others. Nicole Kidman is terrified that her house may be haunted, only to walk in on a séance session only to find out who the real ghosts were.
Moon is also a good one too
The twist in Crying Game literally made my jaw drop.
I knew as soon as I saw the singer perform. Although a friend had hinted beforehand. But I don't think it was that surprising.
Jacob’s Ladder had a nice gotcha ending
Speaking of Edward Norton, the twist of who he really is in The Score (with De Niro) was just… chef’s kiss ! Perfection!
You missed one. The greatest "Everything You Know Is A Lie" moment in all of cinema....
"No, I am your father."
Yessss!
over rated....
@@juansantiago6635 Which is just another word for popular.
It's not actually overrated - you're just saturated with it and that's why it's boring to you.
Eh, not quite an "everything you know is a lie" twist
Cheers! 😛
Bloody Reunion, South Korean flick from 2006. Absolutely insane and gut-wrenching multi-twist ending that makes The Mist seem like a cakewalk.
Haven't seen this, but I've just checked Imdb and it looks promising!
I'll be watching it tonight with a few beers.
Cheers for the recommendation....

"The Conversation"'s reveal was more stunning to me than Verbal being Soze.
I'm going to go with "Mr. Nobody". It starts with a simple enough premise, then has fun going all over the place, and ends in a way I really didn't see coming (but in a good way).
The Conversation is an underrated movie.
The best part of Fight Club is the entirety of Project Mayhem and even Marla are all in his head.
Great list
Memento wasn’t in this video.
@@jamiethal1319 What video?
The video that they’re talking about.
@@jamiethal1319 I was being funny, because I thought you were making a joke, and I was making one in the same vein. Memento was in the video...
He might be difficult to work with, but it says a lot that Edward Norton made the list twice.
one for a good movie the other for fight club
Automatically thought of The Others when I saw the list. Also Derailment is another good choice although with the title of the movie it seems obvious about the twist yet I was surprised.
The Others was a hugely well made and fun movie.
And "Identity" ....
Dressed to Kill with Michael Caine was exceptionally creepy and a decent plot twist.
Original Saw movie was one i thought would be in this list
To me the best one ever was in the Kevin Costner movie, No Way Out.
That was a great and terrible twist. I had long wondered why that wasn't done more often, until I saw it. It was well done, but also kind of disappointing, if you liked the protagonist!
These may be mentioned below, but two of my favorites are The Sixth Sense, and the underrated No Way Out.
Oooooooyeahhhh. No Way Out for sure! I had forgotten that one.
You missed the real number 1..Ace Ventura! Einhorn is Finkle!
Finkle is Einhorn!
"Gun in my hip. omg..."
@@bbsy1 I wanted to initially thumbs down this comment, but this actually is a good point and a great use of a movie that gets mischaracterized to explain your point.
And to be fair in the Sixth Sense the boy wasn’t lying when he said he sees dead people. He was telling the truth.
I come for the inspiration Jules gives at the end of each video. I stay for the great videos
I can remember watching Primal Fear when I was 10 years old and waiting to see who played the main character. When I saw the name Edward Norton, I knew I needed to keep an eye out for him.
I was shocked that Ralph Kramden's buddy had gone bad.
@@christelheadington1136 🤦🏼

Alas... how terrible is wisdom when it brings no profit to the wise, Johnny?

Yes!!!
Thank you for your message at the end.
It really helped man ty ty
Never understood why people like The Usual Suspects so much. I watched it and about 20m into the movie it became apparent who Keyser Soza was. The rest just confirms it. I think The Crying Game was much more of a wow moment. Not to mention Jacob's Ladder....
I thought Identity had quite a movie changing twist to it and to some extent John Dies at the End.
Great movie!
I read the book Primal Fear and knew it was coming but Edward Norton's portrayal of Aaron still got me
The crazy thing with Fight Club is the number of direct references to the Narrator being Tyler they can away with!
Easy to forget how much of a giant Christopher Lee was.
Maybe the format is different, but the SUPREME example of this (to me) is Fallen, with Denzel Washington.
i think shutters island deserves to be included in your list
"You're Mister Boddy."
Honorable Mentions:
The Game (1997)
Identity (2003)
Just my 2 cents
I think he should also add “Us” as well. Where the mom turned out to be the tethered the whole time.
An oldie but... “Soylent Green is...”
Cypher also had a great, really hard to anticipate twist!
I second this. Sad, that this movie is so unappealing at first glance, but surely worth watching.
Now You See me was good, but the ending of Archive still gives me chills
Extra points for including The Conversation - such a great film many don't really know about
Nice that this offering remembers movies from earlier days as so many of these collections seem to think the world began around 2001 or so. And " The Conversation" reveal is so subtle, with only the slight inflection of "us' making all the difference.
Primal Fear was such a great movie!
This is a master list
Expected a "No! I am your father!" moment.
