Once I saw your video I decided to go for it. I am finishing my cryptex out from your plans. This has been a chanllenge and I am about to finish it. Thanks for sharing this valuable info. This will be part of a puzzle cache in Puerto Rico.
that is very cool!! i didnt understand from the video how the lock/open mechanism works.. but i have a lot of studying to do in order to get a job so i can do this stuff more peacefully. That is very nice Sven, i felt like making a bunch of this and spreading around my city
Thank you, this will come in handy. I am planning on spending the the winter months inside building fun caches, because when it gets down to -30 I will not be outside caching. I have already done things like Yorick, a walnut, turtle and things like that so this one will be fun to add to the collection of things to put out come Spring. TFTV
I am making one of these but upgraded to a 1 inch pipe inside a 1 1/4 inch pipe. It will work the same but will be larger. took a while to figure out all the other pieces but have finally narrowed it down
I followed the instructions here as best as I could with the tools I had at my disposal. Turned out alright, works, and I am planning a larger one. My video is called How to Make a Cryptex (Video Walkthrough)
Epic, I love this and will be making a slightly bigger one. I have found a few plans and designs.. and this one seems the simplest.. Only problem is its rather tiny :P buuuuut i still LOVE it and will post a video here as well as one for my other cache that i am currently building..
I'll make two of these the first one being the one following these instructions and these materials, the next one though will sort of borrow this one companies design of a cryptex usb. It'll be designed in Inventor then I'll machine it on a CNC I'll record all steps and upload two videos before December of this year.
I've made this. Now I wanna make one with multiple compartments. Is it possible? I want to have multiple codes, at the very least 2, preferably 3, that open different sections of pipe.
After just discovering this channel and going through all your videos, I won't be surprised if I'll start using the phrase "BITS AND BOBS" in my everyday conversations. :) (I'm Swedish)
For anyone trying to find the plans, the links have gone bad but I found the files on a Geocaching forum. forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/242865-cryptex-drawings-for-geocaching-community/page/5/#comments
i See a Problem in this For us Europeans (i know the uk belongs to Europe but you don't use the metric system) If I convert the inches into centimeters, I will get out an endless number. And u can't buy a pipe wich is (for example) 2,74839 cm thick! So i need to calculate it into measures which I can buy here... It will take to long, I will buy one!
I wish I had seen this before, I did some searching and found them on an old forum. Still it's good to have these, I'm looking forward to giving this a try.
I found this idea and drawings on the web a while back and was fascinated, so I set about making one myself from solvent weld pipe from B&Q. The cache has now been released as part of a puzzle series. I don't mention what the cache actually is on the listing, but if you want to see a UK homemade cryptex cache in operation, go grab GC3BEMK - once you solve the puzzle that is ;-)

Hi, made a cryptex just as the instructions show, took about 5 hours in total, came out really cool, thanks for the detailed plans.
Thanks
Dan
Can you please explain me how you have made?

Excellent! I am a Da Vinci Code and Geocaching fan so this video was right up my alley. Thanks and keep on caching ;-)
@Tobie2 just be creative. My suggestion is a multicache with a piece of the combination in several smaller caches.
RIP.. we will miss you.
The PDF files are no longer available when I click on them. :(
I noticed the same thing, unfortunately he passed away several years ago so probably not going to be updated. RIP Sven.

I was able to build one of these Cryptex containers and it is located at GC6F16A Thanks for the video.

I dont understand how to use it as a geocache????
How hard is it to scale this up to a larger size pipe diameter? I'm thinking about wanting to make one the size of a 1L soda bottle.

THANK YOU! The plans seem very helpful even for someone with little machining experience. Will try with my friend soon.
