    14:40 when the hell did burning evidence from a case in which the main players are still alive become "standard practice"?
    The use & Canada have evidence from cases dating back to the 1700's and England has enough backlogged evidence dating to the 15th century that they opened museums to deal with it.
    Standard practice has always been to hold on to it at least until all of the main players are dead, as you never know when that case will open back up.
    Also does anyone else find it more than a bit SUS that in Canada the prosecution can appeal an acquittal endlessly while convicts are limited? That's more than a little backwards

    • @RuminatingRaptor
      @RuminatingRaptor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s not the prosecution, it’s the crown, and limitations on appeals is limited in more places than Canada.

    • @heha4383
      @heha4383 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The United States does not have that. We have the right to no double jeopardy. You could unalive someone, get acquitted, then go on TV and confess. As long as you didn’t lie to police or state your innocence at trial, you would be clear of any major charges.

    • @nicholashodges201
      @nicholashodges201 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heha4383 that's comparing a pineapple to a steak.
      If YOU are acquitted and it leaves an unresolved crime, they'll be keeping most of the evidence except for evidence directly taken from you. Either way they aren't burning it in a trash barrel.
      My post was referring to *post conviction* as the evidence still needs to be available for appeal.
      For an LEA to immediately destroy evidence after a trial is EXTREMELY suspect.
      Case in point, in the 80's, in my hometown a woman killed her husband by "accidentally" dropping a bowling ball on his head 4 times. She was convicted, but they still have all the evidence, including that stupid ball, which has led to several interns getting injured from it over the decades. They have to keep it because she keeps appealing.
      Finally, typically in English style legal systems, like ours & in Canada, before you can destroy it, the evidence must be approved for destruction by the courts not by the police.

    Had to skip through the Jan Arden part. When I lived in Calgary, she sometimes came into the store I worked at and is one the the most unpleasant people I've had to deal with. The lady who had cancer was just trying to take care of her kids and save her own life, only to be brutalized and murdered by a monster. Smh...I'll never understand the world. I'm so sorry for these victims and their families, as well as the families of these monsters. They're innocent, but always end up losing too... I pray I'm never in either position. I've lost a couple friends to murder, one when we were young children, and lost my dad to an accident, but the last place I'd want to be, is the family member of a sadistic murderer. They carry a stigma they don't deserve and often struggle with guilt that isn't theirs. These people didn't deserve to die... I do have to say that I respect and am impressed/glad to see Terrance Howard's dad take responsibility for his role in what happened that day. At 1st when I heard he only served 11mos, I shook my head (not that I think he should have gotten a LONG sentence either, maybe in the middle somewhere?), but then, when he said what he did, now I think maybe he does deserve that parole. He's really a different person and learned a lesson from what he did, isn't that what prison is supposed to really be about? At least partly anyway...

    I’m Canadian and Jann Arden is pretty beloved here, at least by the “older crowd” (I’m in my 20’s but I’ve been influenced a lot by my parents interests who were born in the 50’s so I don’t know if me liking her at my age is common but she’s well known due to not only her musical talent but acting, comedy, and causes she advocates for and supports). She talks about how her brother is/was in prison and about her early years but she doesn’t go into detail in a very respectful way. Like she’s not hiding it but it’s also not the public’s business just because she’s a well known figure so she doesn’t feel the need to share the story herself. That said, I’ve tried to find out what her brother did before and could never find anything. I was not expecting him to be covered in this video so it was an interesting surprise to see it pop up.

    Terence Howard really is a brilliant actor. Every role I have seen him in is awesome, his tiny role in "Hart's War" stands out in a movie with many, many actors in their individual scenes. So, when an aging actor needs contract negotiations leverage he or she says they're going to retire, all of a sudden productions seek them out and he rake in work for a couple of years. Eddie Murphy did the same thing, he's not "retired" retired.

    Bill Cosby didn't really "create" 'The Cosby Show'. The pilot was based on his comedy that's true, but Bill Cosby wanted his character to be a cab driver and his wife be a blue collar worker, same in tone like 'Sanford & Son'. Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner made Bill and his wife upper-class people, made him a doctor and his wife a lawyer growing up with money and privilege. Marcy Carsey then took that blue-collar idea and created "Roseanne" with Matt Williams four years later in 1988. There you have white people acting like 'Sanford & Son'. Going against the grain in both instances found and audience.

    Tyrone Howard's case was really like the stand your ground law that so famously let a lot of people off for far worse killings. They didn't have the law then, but he was fighting back if someone was fighting him. neither should have been fighting though.

    • @roxanne5077
      @roxanne5077 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This case has nothing to do with the stand your ground law for several reasons. For one thing, Tyrone fled the scene, meaning he never stood his ground, you can't flee from the scene with a stand your ground defense.
      "Howard FLED to his mother's home. Hours later, he turned himself in to police."
      Secondly, in an interview he gave to a Cleveland newspaper after his son gave the Oprah interview, he admitted he initiated the altercation & felt remorse, he also said his son misrepresented the case on the Oprah show & he didn't appreciate it.
      "HOWARD expressed REMORSE FOR INITIATING THE ALTERCATION which led to Fitzpatrick's slaying."
      Overall, Tyrone Howard, admitted & discussed his guilt & served his time. He honestly seemed like a great guy & took responsibility for his actions, most don't but he did, props to him. He said, I wish we both would have just walked away, it wasn't worth his life, he didn't deserve it but I had to go & be stupid.

    • @HawaiiBlack
      @HawaiiBlack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@roxanne5077 I hear you but I don't agree at all. It still sounds like stand your ground...only difference is the law was not in place at that time and he responded this way cause the law was not in place. He fled because he did not feel anyone would take a black man killing a white man as self-defense. I saw the Oprah interview that sounded scripted and more like PR repair to help his son's career was rising. However, those times were different and certain people felt they could harass or say anything they wanted to anyone because of who they were. He didn't expect Tyrone Howard to retaliate.

    • @cosmosadorabilis7677
      @cosmosadorabilis7677 2 ปีที่แล้ว
