    Brilliant tutorial, I'm a complete noob when it comes to music and this was very helpful.

    Back again after seeing this first time around, finally using NextDAW 1.4 on a real Next. This is an EXCELLENT tutorial, thank you very much indeed, Steve.
    This has been a huge 'unlock' for what is undoubtedly a hugely impressive, powerful package. Thanks!

    That was one of the best tutorials/demos I've ever seen. I was thinking of buying NextDAW...now there's no thinking required - just an order to put in :)
    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Best Regards.

      Cheers. I've tried NextDAW on my physical machine since making the video. It's even better on the Next itself, and a couple of extra features have been added to the software since, including more flexible stereo sound controls.

      I had quick mess around with the demo on my Next - it's obviously good but was a little confusing in places. You've just saved me hours of manual reading etc. so thanks again :)

    The sounds and values you are getting are very much like what is possible with the YouRock guitar which was retailed by Maplins. I have one. My cousin is a record producer and he can make it sing!

    Excellent tutorial video Steve! I bought NextDaw today and although it is quite intuitive, I was quite stuck on how to produce the sounds I wanted. Your video has helped greatly. Thank you.

      That's great to know, cheers. There are a few new features since I did the video, but I haven't done a follow up vid yet. If you have any other questions, post 'em here and I should have the answers.

    OSC1 and OSC2 may stand for Oscillator 1 and 2. Sync normally is to sync the rythm of the arp with the rythm of the song, so the will be in an even relation.

    Great video, thanks!! I bought NextDAW and I'm using it on CSpect and it seems to work fine except for one thing. The duration of a sequence does not seem to work properly. If I add a sequence, say 2 bars long, and then extend its duration to 4 bars, then in the arranger in record mode the recording of notes continues to stop at bar 2, not 4. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?

    • @RetroSteveUK
      @RetroSteveUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's been a while since I used NextDAW so a lot of the detail is fuzzy, but from memory I can suggest copying the sequence and pasting a new one at the extended length. I'd also recommend joining the NextDAW Facebook group. Some very knowledgeable and helpful people there: facebook.com/groups/nextdaw/

    Was it ever possible to create music on the ZX console itself? I know it made lots of sounds. I had every model of the Spectrum right up to the 128+3 with the disc drive. They are all worth big money now.

    • @RetroSteveUK
      @RetroSteveUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the original computer you could make simple music using BASIC commands, but the real geniuses used their coding skills to make the machine sing. I remember using a music package to create tunes on the 48k Speccy back in the day.

    I would have loved something like this on my speccy back in the '80s, rather than having to wait until I got my first Amiga and a copy of OctaMED.

    • @RetroSteveUK
      @RetroSteveUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Me too, quite frankly. I remember using 'Wham! The Music Box' (remember that?) which allowed two channels of sound on a 48k Speccy beeper, but I never came across anything for the 128k Speccy's AY chip. Having three AY's to play with on the ZX Next is just sublime!

    • @TheOneTrueSpLiT
      @TheOneTrueSpLiT 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroSteveUK RE: 'Wham! The Music Box' - to be honest, I'm trying to forget anything "Wham" related - so thanks for that! I never heard of that title and I tended to write my own programs on my speccy such as a simple mono keyboard as I was heavily into synths as a kid, and still am albeit VSTs in Cubase. I soo wanted the sounds we got from the coin-ops in the arcade but only ever had my Spectrums and a QL until I got round to the Amiga which was a godsend in terms of audio channels and quality. I still have my A2000 safely boxed along with all my old disks including OctaMED and the songs I composed - just a shame my PC emulators can't read the Amiga disks otherwise I'd have some tunes to put up on here and SoundCloud :)

      Interestingly, there were trackers on the Speccy, though i think it was mostly people seeing trackers on the Amiga and working backwards to create something similar, so it seemed quite late in the life of the system. ( th-cam.com/video/w3dXISDeihE/w-d-xo.html )

    • @TheTurnipKing
      @TheTurnipKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SettimaLegione It does. CrossDOS was available in the public domain and wound up actually incorporated into the OS by Workbench 3, (though it's not enabled by default).
      Though it does have a limitation in that you can only use 720k double density dos floppies.

      Yes. The arpeggio function can be set to rotate through multiple notes at various speeds.

      There's a demo version on the ZX Spectrum Next SD card, the contents of which can be downloaded from the link I'm about to post. You'll need a Spectrum Next to run it, or use the emulator mentioned in this video.
