My sister and I went mad for that stuff. Probably because of the advert. there are a couple of Quatro ads elsewhere on this channel: th-cam.com/video/A6jaKtE3wqs/w-d-xo.html
I love the Accrington Stanley milk advert. It still makes me smile. I didn't know until recently that one of the kids became an actor who I remember from Shameless and Trollied. The other got sent to prison for murder 😮
As soon as I saw Daley Thompson I knew that was going to be a Lucozade advert, but I was thrown for a minute by that shot of the running liquid at 2:07, wondering if this was, in fact, in the wrong compilation, because that was giving me _extremely_ strong Castrol GTX advert vibes 😄
Great compilation for a teetotaller like me. Tango Adverts were great, miss that kind of silliness. I wish milk still came in bottles, I know you can still get it but most people use the plastic jugs now.
I tried going back to milk bottle delivery a couple of years ago with one of these modern companies, but I had to give up on it. With the delivery, it was more expensive than buying from a supermarket, and they could never seem to deliver the milk before I left the house for work, so it was left standing outside. A bit rubbish, really.
One of my favourite vintage adverts is the Coca-Cola advert from 1971 when the people sing on a hill and hold glass bottles of Coca-Cola. I wasn't around back then as I was born in the early 2000s.
@El-Ritmo The "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" advert and the advert with the Coke trucks where the boy is rushing to see the trucks are the only adverts I like.
Fantastic ads. I remember now, there were an awful amount of Milk adverts in the 1980's. They were all run by the 'Milk Marketing Board'. They were there to control milk production and distribution in the United Kingdom. Their function ceased in 1994 following the Agriculture Act 1993 which deregulated the milk market. I don't think I've actually seen a pint of milk in the classic glass bottle in my area for over 30 years now. Interesting story about the iconic 'Accrington Stanley! Who are they?' Advert. The two children were Carl Rice and Kevin Spaine. Rice features prominently, with Spaine largely off camera. While Rice has been a successful actor, Spaine's life took a dark turn, resulting in a murder conviction in 2023 with a minimum term of 18 years. It's such a shame that such a dark event should cloud such a classic iconic 80's advert now.
I thought that was Wayne Rooney in the Accrington Stanley milk advert. Loved lucozade in the 70's, mum would bring it to me in bed when i was ill i really did feel better after drinking it.
Ah, the power of advertising. I had to pour myself a glass of milk at the start of this video. 😁 A young Angus Deayton who would go on to bigger and better things. Before messing things up and getting savaged on Have I Got News For You and getting the heave-ho.
I don't think I've ever liked a Coca-Cola advert - they're so earnest yet so utterly, utterly corporate. Hateful things. One of my all-time favourite adverts remains the great Irn-Bru ad that parodied and ridiculed all of those 1980s Coke adverts. But talking of all-time favourite ads, the Um Bongo jingle will continue to live rent-free in my head until my dying day, but I always welcome any opportunity to view one again. Even Um _Bogno_ 😁
@@RetroSteveUK Yes, exactly. It's the case to some degree or other with all advertising, but Coca-Cola is right up there with the most egregious examples. Makes any sentiment ring particularly hollow.
Wow, the coke advert with the kids and teens singing still gives me the shivers. OK it's a complete corporate shill, but it tapped into the feeling that many people had in the late 80s/early 90s that with the Cold War at an end, things might just start to get better...
One I remember as a 80s kid was Quatro, I remember riding miles on my bike to a Newsagents to get some....and it tasted like Hairspray
I remember Quatro.

Another refreshingly thirst quenching video in the books Steve, best regards as always 👍🏼😎👍🏼🥛🥤🧃
Ta very much. Anyone fancy a Lilt?
@@RetroSteveUK 🤜🏼🤛🏼
We used to drink some absolute sugary piss water when we were kids, didn't we?😂
Oh yes indeed! Sunny D, anyone!?

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out the guy from trollied was the Accrington Stanley kid.

The "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" ad? That may be the only Coke ad I actually like - it's really quite iconic.

Kinda glad it wasn't the other way round, with the recognisable face being the one that took the turn.

I think Lucozade might have been an early form of energy drink.
And Accrington Stanley played Liverpool this year and lost 4-0
Wow! Dominic Keating (Lieutenant Malcom Reed from Star Trek: Enterprise) in the Tango table football ad 🖖
Yep, if you watched Enterprise he's extremely recognisable. I don't remember him from anything else, though.
@@RetroSteveUK He was in "Desmonds" [Comedy Barbershop series on 90s Channel 4]
I do remember Desmonds, but can't remember seeing him in it. I've been meaning to re-watch Desmonds for a while now. Might be a good time to start.

There's actually something really refreshing about a nice, cold glass of milk.

Some of the Coke ads have some good things to say, but I've never been able to reconcile the sentiments with the corporate, profit-greedy marketing.

Many of those adverts from 1970's, 1980's & 1990's were shown in Ireland & worldwide.
👍
..I still prefer a pint 🍺

And now ... 😔
So the one I didn't get was Um Bongo! I was thinking of KiaOra but knew it wasn't that.
And WTF was that clown tango ad haha!
I think Tango were stretching the 'zany advert' ideas a bit too far at that point.
