  • It's the last bag of Gedeb of the year, consider this my homage to this beautiful coffee - so far my favourite this year, I’m trying to enjoy every bit of it and experiment a little bit more with the recipe while I can. This coffee has so much flavor, insane aroma, you just know you’re drinking a high quality bean. The Barn ran out of Gedeb, so that’s it. Take care Gedeb, you’ll be missed! I already have a different light roasted Yirgacheffe in my drawer and I can’t wait for it to degas a bit and have a taste, but The Barn has set the bar very high with Gedeb. Can’t wait to try as much of Yirgacheffe as I can this year. I hope you're all alright, and be nice!

Where did you get that magnet clip ontop of the hopper from?

If you wouldn't mind sharing I'd love to know where you got the magnetic piece on the grinder to hold your tasting notes card!

Hi Jacob, I feel like I've answered this a few times already 😄 New Mazzers come with newer lids and the magnetic pins as standard. If you have an older Mazzer, reach out to your local parts distributor and ask for a new hopper (or just the lid with the pin).

Hey Jaroslav. I have a question. What flow rate do you find ideal ? Is it ~220 ml per 25 seconds a good flow ? Is it 9.5 ml per second what you normally aim ?

Hi! I’ve had a flowrate of 500ml/30s with the stock 0.8mm restrictor, but I found it to be too much, being too harsh on the puck. I’ve replaced it with 0.6mm, my flowrate is now 250ml/30s. I can say that I very much prefer 250ml/30s. It’s more gentle, cups are smoother and the taste has improved significantly. I thought maybe I’m imagining things at first, but a few people agreed with me that they also noticed the same improvement in the cup with lower flowrate. I’m not doing any flowrate-profiled shots however, keep in mind that I’ve the pump set to 9bar 😊 I think, if you’re at around 250ml/30s, you should be fine!

    Hi jaro!
What's you're overall impression on the HU burrs? Have you tried MP?

Hi Navid! They’re really great, much better than the stock 189D this Mini came with. But frankly, if I were to buy them now, I would go with Mazzer’s 233M instead. They’re on par with SSP HUs, and seem to grind even faster. I haven’t tried the MPs yet, I’m trying to decide whether to get Cast or MPs next. The opinions on these are mixed, so I’m still researching. I’m close to making a purchase thought! What do you think?

@Jaroslav I have tried the MP, they are high on clarity but lack body. It's great for straight espresso or turbo shots, not so much for milk based drinks.

Everyone says so, but I’ve also seen people pull thick shots with the MPs. How’s body with medium roasts? I’m eyeing the Cast, but the information on these is super conflicting and contradictory. I feel like HUs have enough clarity for me, but I’m tempted to try either MPs or Cast. It seems I’ll have to wait until most people have seasoned theirs (most people say it helps to season these) and can report more accurately what these actually taste like. They seem to change with every kg people put through them, but the results are allegedly worth the hassle. I wrote my thought about the HUs on my blog, you can have a quick read if you feel like.

@Jaroslav will have a read. As you said there is a lot of conflicting information out there. You will truly not know until you try it for yourself, and make a judgement.
