I like that Ashley makes a distinction between regular male privilege - eg farting, burping in public , not living in fear for their safety and toxic masculinity
I can't say how much I love this podcast. I love seeing a more serious Ashley. I definitely hope they keep it as diverse as possible. Look forward to this podcast weekly 🙌🏾

wow, @ashgavs , I really needed to hear what you said about what you are working on in therapy right now. thank you so so much for sharing! I lost my mom when I was 20 years old, and I never had those words for that feeling. thank you!
Arrghhh I loved this so much. It was even better than I was expecting. Mal is a brilliant interviewer and she got the most interesting conversations out of Ashley, a person who has fascinating views on gender norms. Loved it
Oh my god, MORE comedians to make Mal laugh please, this one was amazing for that. And just because it came up, I'm a straight man and I watch not only because Mal is so enjoyable to watch and listen to (especially the laughs), but also because hearing about the reality of this side of life is simply fascinating, especially the way modern culture plays upon the erotic entertainment value of Lesbianism without really addressing the difficulties of it in every day life. And on top of that, emotion is emotion, whether it's gay, straight, or somewhere in-between, so there is a lot to learn and think about from these interviews for all of us. In closing, let me say that Ashley is 100% correct is saying that Mal is a fantastic interviewer and this episode above most proves that we absolutely need a reaction camera on Matilde - please, please, please!
I didn't realized that all of my exfriends from the comunity was toxic until this amazing episode, they had such a toxic masculinity attitude, seeing ashley and mal talking about gender roles that the society and us people in the community put on us as well made me realize that they were like all that they said and seeing the difference between those exfriends and mal and ashley, hearing mal and ashley felt like a healthy new fresh air, thank you so much girls for this one💖❤️🔥🏳️🌈
I love this!! You’re being a wonderful dad, being here for her, and supporting her and loving her throughout her journey means so much more than you even know! Great job, Dad 😊

i was chewing on a grape when Ashley did the Trump impression i laughed so hard it got stuck in my throat and i almost choked to death 😭 I haven't laughed like that in a while
Mal, your laugh is EVERYTHING 😂😂😂 I laugh so hard by just hearing yours! Also, LOVE this podcast, it's so inspiring actually for younger lgbt's like me. I'm 24, knew I was part of this since I was 16 and never was really a drama for me or my circle (luckily), but hearing all these stories and how the "going out" for yall in the US was like when you were younger, or even rn, it's so amazing and I really appreciate it and find it very but very inspiring. Huge kisses from Madrid, Spain!!!!! ❣
18:54 "You caught me on the wrong day."😂 Just being introduced to Ashley. I enjoyed this sit down with Mal. Another insightful conversation. As sum1 who presents masc in casual outings[where peeps are trying to clock me to confirm if I'm gay], but femme in more formal outings [where that curiosity doesn't come up.] , it's really fascinating to see how society perceives women that don't align with the traditional gender expressions.
Ashley's childhood stories are always interesting to hear, but after I watched "Little Fires Everywhere" yesterday, the secret gay relationships as a 14 year old in the late nineties/early 2000s and the relationship with your mom-talk hit different.
Love it, Ash is so funny! But honestly I love and always come back to see Mal - she is an amazing interviewer so earnest and heart felt and always leaves space for everyone she speaks to. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
When she was saying she didnt think she was attractive enough for dating, i feel that so much. I think im somehow sabotaging myself because i just cant seem to make it happen. Like, shying away, giving skeptical vibes, not being responsive. And its annoying because - in contrast to men - i can really imagine and want to be dating women. Could never imagine that with men, just thought it wasnt for me.
This is a fantastic episode, fantastic. I am so glad you are getting more masc lesbians. Even though they usually don't fit the mould of coming out later in life they are still important representation. I follow ashley on her other podcasts as well of course, but this is a different type of conversation and it was very well done and very interesting. Keep up with this work and if possible try to find more masc women, I would very much enjoy listening to them.
Loved watching this! I’m a non-binary lesbian but very much femme presenting and my gf is the more dominant and mix between femme and masc. I love how in our relationship we have created our own dynamics and rules, not caring about gender norms. Ngl it’s challenging in this world though
Oh wow, this episode really hit home for me. When i was graped, i didn't even think it was a possibility. I was very out about my Sexuality and this boy was my childhood best friend. He was very openly excepting of my identity. I never worried about staying over at this house. I had countless times but without even knowing it. I was put in a situation where i couldnt escape since i was basically locked in his house, i couldnt tell anyone since we both shared the same social circle [small mountain town] and without knowing it my mindset of "I'm a lesbian and he is just a friend, he would never do that. He hasnt ever done that." Put me in a situation where i couldn't escape. It's scary , thinking that being straight in some way could have helped. Of course, in reality, this happens to straight girls all the time because it is the people you dont expect. But my identity gave me this false sense of protection from the female experience.
“Uncorked” Ashley is always a delight. Thanks for having her. I’ve listened to Made it Out, on and off for the last few years. But usually out of boredom. No offense. I never felt connected to the pod till this episode.
Actually same. I've listened to this pod for awhile. I usually never felt connected to the topics because it's usually femme/stem experiences. I watch because it's interesting to see other perspectives. But having Ashley on really got me! I hope for more masc representation. I thought it was funny Ashley asked if she was more masc than Shannon. I personally don't really see shannon as that far on the masc scale. Love her of course though.

27:30 a second adolesence is such a relatable concept to me as a trans lesbian. Though it's very different experience since we (not all but probably most of us) go through what is basically a second physical puberty, it's very cool to have something in common with (at least some) cis lesbians in spirit. Makes it feel like we're actually all part of the same queer womanhood, even with all the major differences
We are all part of it! I think the terfs that claim we haven’t had the same struggles are so silly. No two women have had the same experiences. Look at me and Mal! It’s so different. But we’re both hurt by the patriarchy and trans women are too. We’re all in it together.
