We just had the same problem with an FX6 (same firmware version worked on a different FX6 an hour ago so the firmware wasn't dodgy but we were using a third party battery plate with V-lock. It worked after we redownloaded the update file directly to the sd card (through Chrome if that is relevant) and then just left it in the card slot like you did (plugged into the wall, no battery). It took maybe 10-15mins but whilst we were googling different solutions, it worked - same as yours. I hope this helps S other FX6 owners because we were about to drop ours off at Sony.
Really informative video, but I updated it from the app. I can format it in my PC but I don't have the appropriate download file, if I download that and put it in will it work the same?
i figured out why, avoid formatting using PC. Format in camera instead. Because it's clearing off the update file as well. I had this issue too and it didn't want to turn on after the first time i format with PC

Bad cable, incompatible cable or using a Mac.
