I was trying to get my 400 setup for APRS at the house today since I am at home with back surgery. This popped up on a 400 group on facebook ironically. This tutorial made life way easier. Thank you so much.
Very informative. I’ve been thinking about setting up an igate myself... being located in an area not serviced at this point by any reliable APRS access points. I have a decent laptop that I no longer use for business, so maybe it can be used.
This also works on the Yaesu FTM100. The accessing the data settings is different but the rest is the same. I've also added a UBLOX7 GPS dongle. Works great 👍 Quick question. Do you having beaconing switched on the radio or do you leave that to the software?
In the UK.. I have had to request a NoV ( Notification of Variation to my license just to be able to receceive and pass onto APRS.fi) just an IGATE, no TX involed. I think the laws are stricter here.
@@nickwebb6702 i maybe wrong but i dont think you need a nov to rx and repeat over ip only tx. its a grey area but its not remote unattended transmitting which you would need a nov
I swear every time I edit the programing of my FTM-400 the settings get messed up. I think I've referenced this video 5 times. Thanks for the great video!
You prolly dont give a shit but if you're stoned like me atm then you can stream all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf recently =)
I did this setup and have found out that the FTM 400xdr will only set up a one way I gate and one cannot send messages out via software but GET THIS with my Baofeng uv 5r with the right cable and APRSI 32 and direwolf tnc I can send out messages.
Yes, wish the ftm 400 had a full tnc to be able to send out messages. I have in past used a uv5r and cable with tablet, and could send out and receive messages without using a tnc. Wish Yaesu would of done a full tnc as it would of taken this radio to a whole nother level
The issue with this setup is the connection is one way. Yes your radio will receive APRS and send it out to the internet -but- if I was to message a station that came through your setup and tried to send it to them, your station would get that data packet but the FTM-400 wouldn’t PTT and send anything out so that breaks the APRS system. I did this setup and abandoned it. It’s a receive only station not an IGate. APRS needs to be bidirectional so I moved to TH-D74A and Xastir on raspberry pi. Just my suggestion. I’m AJ6EE so you know how to email me if I can be of any help :)
Kevin, thanks for the comment. The purpose of this IGATE is to take the heard stations and plot them to the internet. That's one point of an IGATE, nothing wrong with a setup like this, its often common to use a scanner or SDR receiver to gate things as well.
Is that a MS Surface tablet? Looking for a tablet. Cost would be great. Seems easy to setup. Hope there is some better software out there. That one looks pretty old.
Ciao, i followed your instruction and i get the software installed and running. What I cannot succeed is the IGate function. Please explain if it can work in this way: I have the FT400 connected with the PC amd the APRS32 is running on it. As i am in an area without any digipeters or any igate, i want to get connected on the APRS network also with my FT3D. The FT3d is sending the beacon, but i cannot see it registered on APRS32. Can you help me, please? Thank you. Best 73's
i was starting to set this up today, The software want me to input my location, is there anyway for it to track me? my intention was to use this as a mobile igate, i travel a vast area where there are no digipeaters or igates.
I use a usb GPS device connected to the tablet. Find the comm port it attached to and in aprsis32, setup a NMEA port using the comm port for the gps and 4800 baud. Enable that NMEA in aprsis32 and you will see gps signal across the bottom of the map screen and your speed in the upper left.
@@shooter.2578 Not sure Ryan has had the ability to test, but you really do not have to use a digital radio, you can do the same with a scanner and an audio cable to your sound card with the software and it will plot positions you receive.
Everyone has an opinion and in a rural area such as the wide open spaces of Illinois there are places you are neither covered by an igate or digipeater. The igate is able to plot your positions.
@@59radio22 try rural NH, far worse due to all the mountains. Receive only breaks messaging. I love my 400 but wish it had a built in TNC like the Kenwood 710.

This has convinced me to purchase the FTM-400DR for different area's in my life.

Just set up an official Igate in 🇬🇧 (MB7RKW) using this video. Only difference is I'm using an FTM 100. Thanks for your help.

Is there a video of your initial I-Gate set-up? Thanks and 73 Tom Kc3qac-9
I don't unfortunately.
is it safe to assume it doesnt have to be a tablet, any windows device would work...ie: laptop, desktop
yes, any windows software running device will work. Thanks for watching
Awesome!!!😊👍
Very cool. Do you leave this setup on 24/7? There are no digipeaters or igates where i live, and I love to set one up !
I did when I was using it. There was a local igate setup with better coverage so I have since taken this setup down
would this work with an iPad? if not, what tablet do you suggest?
Can’t believe you actually looked at your cell when it chimes while making this video. Lol
Was muting it as to not go off again during recording.
How do u get the location data from the c4fm signals received by the ftm 400 ported to Aprsice?

@@59radio22 I understand but please understand an iGate is 2 way. This is a receive only station so the term iGate should not be used in my opinion.
So do I set up the radio up in normal APRS mode or what? I am confused.
Yes, you set radio up as normal
Do you need the APRS modem on for the ftm-400?
I had the modem on in the demo.hope this helps

No it's a cheaper tablet
Aprsice 32 has been updated and is very good.
What type of antenna do you utilize for aprs on your FTM400?
On this setup was using a tram 1481 at roughly 80ft

I followed every step in this video, how come when I beacon with my HT, I am not showing up on APRS.fi?
I did a search are you referencing your FT1D? It shows that its pulling data correctly and plotting it. aprs.fi/info/a/W8LU-7

I do not believe there is a method for auto locating the igate as you move using this software, as it's more setup for a single location.

Mmdvm products strip the location data from c4fm signals and can be sent to aprs.fi.
The scu-20 driver on the website doesnt work with my tablet
You will probably need a windows based system
