    Dr. Beeke's posture as he rises and leans forward as he teaches about the Puritans, speaks for itself. I'm humbled by this clip. SoliDeoGloria

    I appreciate the brief podcast on Puritanism however I must make a slight correction. The Act of Uniformity indeed did occur in 1662 but Queen Elizabeth was not the queen. She died in 1603 and during her long reign she was tolerant of the Puritans. King Charles II was the king in 1662. The Act of Uniformity was particularly repugnant to the Presbyterians in Scottland at the time. Now I have great regard for the Puritans. What I find most commendable about them was that they advocated that all fathers acquire a Bible of their own and that they read it to their families daily. The Puritans were among the most Biblically literate people in all of history. This contrasted with the typical Anglican who did not own a Bible nor saw any reason to.

      Deshaun hill - Salvation is not getting your sins forgiven, it's believing they already ARE!
      We are all sinners and fall short in God his glory - how to be saved - this is the gospel of salvation - 1 Corinthians chapter 15 verses 1-4 by trusting and believing the gospel of salvation you are saved and sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise till the day of redemption and nothing can pluck you out of the Father his hand - only by the shed blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we can be washed and cleansed from all of our unrighteousness - eternal security is a free gift - it's a promise and God Almighty cannot lie!!! Have a blessed day!
      This is the gospel of salvation - 1 Corinthians chapter 15 verses 1-4
      Witnesses of Christ's resurrection. 1) Moreover,brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2) ''By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
      IT IS FINISHED... Paid in Full !!! But, You Must BELIEVE IT - 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV.
      1 Timothy 2:4-6
      King James Version
      4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
      5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
      6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
      Religion is always dealing with you and what you're doing and what you're not doing,
      anytime you're sitting around thinking what should I be doing you're under religion,
      the grace of God is dealing what Christ did.
      Under religion man always says look what I'm doing for you God and under grace Christ says look what I did for you man.
      Under religion man says look how I went to church under the grace of God Jesus said look how I went to Calvary.
      Under religion man says look at how I was raised in my denomination and under grace Christ says look how I was raised from the dead.
      Under religion man says look at how I gave my money and under grace Jesus says look at how I gave my life.
      Under religion man says look God at how I confessed my sins and under grace Jesus says look man how I took away your sins.
      Under religion man says look God at how I stood up against sin and under the grace of God Jesus says look man at how I died for your sins.
      Under religion man says look God at how I judged the lost world and under grace Jesus says look man at how I saved the lost world.
      Under religion man says look God at how I got up and marched against these evildoers and under grace Jesus says look man how I suffered and died for evildoers.
      Under religion man says look God at how I bow down to you and under grace Jesus says look man and how I became one of you.
      Under religion man says look God at how I healed the sick and under grace Jesus says look man how I raised the dead.
      Under religion man says look God at how I spoke in tongues and under grace Jesus says look man at how I spoke in life.
      Under religion man says look God at how successful my life was and under grace Jesus says looked me at how successful my death was.
      Religions my friends is always man trying to reach up to God with self effort to be accepted by God.
      Through classic Christianity was God reaching down to man through Jesus with love and acceptance and that's why Paul said we preach Christ and Christ crucified a stumbling block to the Jews foolishness to the Gentiles but to those whom God has called both Jews and Gentile Christ the power of God and wisdom.

      Like many "Christians" today, Satan believes Jesus died on the cross, but not for HIS sins. He believes Jesus has risen, but not for HIS eternal life.
      Satan believes the event of the cross but never put his trust in Christ's finished work for salvation.
      Salvation is not: Believing there is a God. (Satan believes that)
      Salvation is not: Believing Christ was the Messiah. (Satan believes that)
      Salvation is not even... Believing Christ died, was buried and rose the third day. (Satan believes that also)
      Salvation is: Believing Christ died for YOUR EVERY SIN and trusting that He rose to give you eternal life IN HIM!
      Something Satan and most Christians want no part of because of their PRIDE!
      If denominationalists truly believed Christ forgave their sins, they wouldn't spend so much time trying to GET them forgiven.
      One tells you to pray for forgiveness.
      One tells you to confess for forgiveness.
      One tells you to believe for forgiveness.
      One tells you to repent for forgiveness.
      One tells you to be baptized for forgiveness.
      And keep in mind, all of these folk with a straight face will tell you Christ DIED for your sins. Welcome to Nutsville!!! I think Dorothy got lost on the yellow brick road.
      Today I unapologetically proclaim that there is only one way to be saved, and it has nothing to do with getting your sins forgiven. Salvations through FAITH. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Without faith it is impossible to please God.
      Salvation comes to those who are ready to give up on THEIR performance and rest their faith in JESUS' performance.
      The path to salvation is narrow. SO narrow that nothing you do will fit.
      Satan will never be saved for the same reason he was kicked out of heaven. P-R-I-D-E. (Isaiah 14:12-14)
      Read carefully and count how many times he says "I".
      How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
      Satan is obviously a Narcissist!
      Like a vain person in front of the mirror, five times in only three verses he boasts of himself. Pride keeps Satan from being saved as it does most of the world. They have fallen victim to SELFIANITY and are incapable of letting go and letting God. Incapable of taking their filthy hands off their salvation and allowing God to save them by HIS finished work!
      If you say --- "I said a prayer for forgiveness." "I confessed for forgiveness." "I believed for forgiveness." "I repented for forgiveness." "I was baptized for forgiveness."
      Then sadly you have fallen for the five I's just like Satan.
      Salvation is not getting your sins forgiven, it's believing they already ARE!
      To be saved, you must first get "I" out of the way.
      Remember....... You only get two educations, the one you're given and the one you give yourself!

    The Puritans came to New England long before the Great Ejection of 1662. The Pilgrims came in 1620 of course, but the bulk of the Puritans came between 1630 and 1640 (an estimated 20,000). There's an excellent article at Banner of Truth called "Iain Murray on American Puritans".

      The Puritans at that location and time period^. Puritanism as a movement lasted well over a century and was wide spread. There are always poor examples with any people or ideological group, and the Puritans were no exception. There was also the “Salem Witch Trials” which was also not a good example of Puritan beliefs and values.
      The puritans that committed those acts and the one you mentioned were definitely committing sin against the Quakers of that time, and it is unfortunate that it is a reality. I admire the bravery of the Quakers that endured the persecution, and I thank you for sharing this information! It is indeed helpful and helps everyone get a more full view of history. Not everything was pleasant and good. God bless

      The Puritans didn't "lynch" anyone, but there were (of course) differing views regarding the appropriate degree of religious toleration. Banner of Truth's article "Iain Murray on American Puritans" talks about religious tolerance in New England.

    I know the godly influence of Jonathan Edwards' descendants. I would like to know about the descendants of earlier Puritans.

    • @ConcurrenceTuttle
      @ConcurrenceTuttle 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Jonathan Edwards himself was a descendant of earlier Puritans. There are an estimated 35 million descendants of the merely 26 Mayflower passenger families known to have descendants, and there were an estimated 20,000 Puritans arriving in New England during 1630-1640. Many of the most influential men in America were Puritan descendants, and America itself was most influenced by the beliefs and practice of the Puritans. Most of the men called America’s “founding fathers” were Puritan descendants. (In fact the Puritans themselves are our true Founders.) The Banner of Truth article “Iain Murray on American Puritans” is excellent.

    What I don't understand is. If the Puritans were trying that hard to seek after the Lord, and living that kind of life. How come they don't exist anymore? How come all the promises of God didn't apply to them? I can quote many many verses for the blessings that come upon men who fear and follow the commands of the Lord. Why are we speaking of the Puritans in past tense?

    • @elliesilva1907
      @elliesilva1907 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the word puritan isn't in the Bible. You can have exact puritan ideology and theology and even call yourself one now. But you're still simply being a practicing Christian.

    • @ConcurrenceTuttle
      @ConcurrenceTuttle 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@elliesilva1907 The name "Puritan" was originally meant as an insult, just as the name "Christian" was. Millions of members of apostate churches and of heretical cults call themselves Christians and have done so over the centuries, so another descriptive word helps differentiate. Thus "Calvinism" or "Reformed" or "Puritan". Many of us adhere to Puritan doctrine, but *none* of us is like them in practice. *No* one today is like them. Comparing 17th century Puritans with the most "Reformed" Christians of today, an objective observer would not believe it's the same religion.

    • @ConcurrenceTuttle
      @ConcurrenceTuttle 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @SunCricket-zs4jh Puritans no longer exist. No conservative Presbyterian or any other church is Puritan. We may adhere to their doctrine and admire their practice (and even try to emulate it); but only the Holy Spirit can create men like that. Only a true Revival could make us again what we ought to be.

    We are ALL sinners that fall short of the glory of God. And we ALL are deserving of eternal punishment in hell because sin is so serious (sin is evil and it is the cause of all pain, death, and suffering). And that’s why Jesus suffered soooo much for us, and that’s why He died on the cross for ALL our sins (past, present, AND future sins) and rose from the dead 3 days later! Jesus did all this because He loves us sooooo much, you can’t even fully comprehend it! And you may have eternal life with Him if you repent (to change your mind about Jesus, to believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord our God) and have faith in Him, then you will be saved! (Let’s make it clear that being a good person WILL NOT get you into Heaven! You can only be saved by the grace God will show you, if you repent and have faith in Jesus and in what Jesus did for us on the cross and that He rose from the dead 3 days after He died for us! ONLY THEN, will you will be saved)! And do not wait because you do not know when you will die (sit and think deeply about that. You have NO CLUE when you will die! Today could be your last day, tonight could be your last night. You can die in your sleep or even in the next hour!) I want you to realize how urgent and important it is to have Jesus! But if you have Jesus, you will NEVER have to worry! You won’t have to worry about school, family problems, life, or EVEN DEATH because you will have the LORD your GOD, RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE, EVERY SINGLE DAY, EVERY SINGLE HOUR, EVER SINGLE MINUTE and EVERY SINGLE SECOND of your life! GOD can help you through ANY challenge, through ANY hardship, and through ANY depressing time in your life! GOD WILL NEVER leave you, GOD WILL NEVER forget about you, GOD WILL NEVER betray you, GOD WILL NEVER forsake you, and GOD WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!!! And that is why GOD is calling you RIGHT NOW to be saved!

    "... ejected from their pulpits in 1662 because Queen Elizabeth wanted them to conform to the entire Book of Common Prayer..." (2:04)
    Since Elizabeth I had been dead 59 years at the time, that is an unfortunate blunder.
